1. About this guide This guide describes the process to download and install SecureAssess Local and SecureClient Local. SecureAssess must be installed on the server machine. SecureClient must be installed on every machine that will be used by candidates to sit exams offline. Important note: Please ensure that your IT department is aware before installing this software manually. October 2014 v3.1 3 of 56
2. System requirements 2.1 SecureAssess Local Server Minimum Technical Requirements These are the minimum technical requirements and supported platforms for installing and running SecureAssess Local. Hardware Processor 2.33GHz or faster x86-compatible processor Hard Drive Space 10GB Memory (RAM) 2GB Video Single display Screen resolution of 1024x768 Graphics card with at least 64MB of memory Software Operating System Microsoft.NET Framework Windows Server 2003 (32bit, 64bit and Release 2) Windows Server 2008 (32bit and 64bit and Release 2) Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 (Service Pack 2) to Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Microsoft IIS Microsoft IIS 6.0, 7.0 or 7.5 Adobe Flash Player Adobe Flash Player 10.3 to 11.7.700.224 This needs to be the ActiveX version of flash i.e. it needs to have been installed from Internet Explorer. Bandwidth Minimum Requirements An internet connection of 2Mbps or greater for every 30 candidate tests being sat at the same time is recommended to ensure candidates are not affected by connection issues during exam delivery. You are advised to use the Advance Download functionality if you do not want candidates to have to wait for the exam to download at the start of the session. Advance Downloaded exams must be sat without an internet connection. The use of 3G cards may not guarantee a constant bandwidth and could therefore not meet the minimum requirements. 2.2 SecureClient (Exam Delivery) Minimum Technical Requirements These are the minimum technical requirements and supported platforms for the delivery of exams using SecureClient Hardware Processor 2.33GHz or faster x86-compatible processor For exams containing Advanced Question Types (includes Functional Skills and Principles of English and Maths assessments), we recommend that Celeron processors are avoided. Hard Drive Space 1GB Memory (RAM) 1GB For exams containing Advanced Question Types (includes Functional Skills and Principles of English and Maths assessments), this should be increased to 2GB. Video Peripherals Single display Screen resolution of 1024x768 Graphics card with at least 128MB of memory Two button mouse Keyboard Audio capability and headphones may also be required for some assessment types Software Operating System Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Comes to end of supported life April 2014 Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit).NET Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 (Service Pack 2) to Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Internet browser Internet Explorer 7 to 10 Adobe Reader must be installed and enabled for the browser Adobe Flash Player Adobe Flash Player 10.3 to 11.7.700.224 This needs to be the ActiveX version of flash i.e. it needs to have been installed from Internet Explorer. 3. Installing SecureAssess Local 3.1 Microsoft Server 2008 3.1.1 Before You Begin 3.1.1.1 Checking Your Version of Adobe Flash Step 1 Using Internet Explorer, go to this website to check your current Flash version. It will be displayed on the page as shown. www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Step 2 If you have version 10.2 or below, you need to upgrade. Click the Player Download Centre link and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 3.1.1.4 Installing and configuring SQL Server 2008 Express Step 1 Check which version of Windows you are running (i.e. whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit version) Click Start then right-click Computer and click Properties Step 2 Look under the System Type subheading. Step 3 Click the appropriate link to download the correct version of SQL Server Express 2008 Service Pack 2 SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 32bit SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 64bit Step 4 Click Run at the File Download screen. Step 5 After the download has completed click Run on the Security Warning screen. Step 6 The files will extract. October 2014 v3.1 15 of 56
Step 7 You will then see the SQL Server Installation Centre screen. Click on Installation. Then click on the New SQL Server standalone installation or add features to an existing installation option at the top Step 8 The installation will let you know if there are any errors you need to fix before continuing. If you have no failures, click OK. If you have failures these will need to be resolved before continuing. October 2014 v3.1 16 of 56
Step 9 At the Product Key screen click Next. Step 10 Place a tick in the I accept the license terms box and click on Next. October 2014 v3.1 17 of 56
Step 11 Click Install. Step 12 Click Next providing you have no failures. Once again failures must be resolved before continuing. October 2014 v3.1 18 of 56
Step 13 On the Feature Selection window, ensure the Select All button has been pressed and ticks are placed in the features. Then click Next. Step 14 Name the instance evolvelocal and click Next. October 2014 v3.1 19 of 56
Step 15 Click Next on the Disk Space Requirements screen. Step 16 Select NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM as the account name for the SQL Server Database Engine and click Next. October 2014 v3.1 20 of 56
Step 17 On the Database Engine Configuration screen, select Mixed Mode, enter an appropriate password for the Built-in SQL Server system administrator account field and add appropriate users to Specify SQL Server administrators (if you are unsure use the Add Current User button). Step 19 Error checking once again. Click Next if you are able. If not, resolve failures. Step 20 At the Ready to Install screen click Install. October 2014 v3.1 22 of 56

3.1.2 Installing SecureAssess Local Step 1 On your server laptop, go to https://evolve.cityand guilds.com/secureas sess/ and login. Step 2 Go to the SA Local Admin tab. Take note of your Installation Key in the table. Click the Download Local Installer button October 2014 v3.1 25 of 56
Step 3 Click the Run button. Step 4 Click the Run button on the Security Warning. Step 5 Accept the default settings and accept the terms of the license agreement on the following screens by clicking Next. October 2014 v3.1 26 of 56
Step 6 When asked to specify the location for the SecureAssess website, select Existing Web Site. Click Next. Step 7 Accept the default settings Click Next. October 2014 v3.1 27 of 56
Step 8 Specify the Instance Name as.\evolvelocal. Select Windows NT Authentication. Click Next. Step 9 Once the install is complete, Internet Explorer will open automatically to the SecureAssess diagnostics page to confirm that the installation was successful. October 2014 v3.1 28 of 56
Step 10 Go to http://servername /secureassess.html (where SERVERNAME is your servername). This is the address you will use to access the SecureAssess Local interface. Click Start. Step 11 If your server connects to the internet through a proxy server, enter the relevant details then click Next. October 2014 v3.1 29 of 56
Step 12 Enter your Installation Key (from step 2) into the form. Click Next. Click Activate. You may need to click Request Reinstall before clicking Activate if you have installed SecureAssess Local before. October 2014 v3.1 30 of 56

4. Installing SecureClient Local Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 Step 1 On the candidate testing stations go to http://servername/s ecureassess.html And log in using your Secure Assess user account. Click the SA Local Admin tab and click Download SecureClient NOTE: Instructions regarding the installation are located on this page for reference. Step 2 Click Save. Step 3 Locate SecureClientLocal.msi on the Desktop and double click to launch. October 2014 v3.1 50 of 56
Step 4 The SecureClient Local wizard will load. Click Next Step 5 Leave the settings at their default and click Next. October 2014 v3.1 51 of 56
Step 6 Enter your servername in the following format in the SecureAssess Local URL field. Step 10 Click Finish. October 2014 v3.1 52 of 56
Step 11 Launch SecureClient from the desktop shortcut to ensure it installed correctly. You should see the screen shown here. Step 12 Run a navigation test to make sure the install was successful. 5. Software upgrades Once the software is installed any further upgrades happen automatically and they will not require administrative rights. This is done via a simple check when the software starts. When this occurs, you may notice the software taking slightly longer to open. City & Guilds will still communicate all upgrades to you well in advance of them happening so you have time to co-ordinate. In order to ensure that your Local Secure Assess setup is configured to allow updates from City & Guilds please follow the steps outlined below. October 2014 v3.1 53 of 56
On your Local Server machine, log onto your Secure Assess Local website Navigate to the SA Local Admin tab. Select the Configuration tab. Edit the Local Sync Period in Minutes. We recommend that centres set this parameter to 15 minutes instead of the default 900 minutes. Ensure the Update After Hour parameter is set to 1.
