Safety precautions Safety precautions The DSL modem alpha DSL WTM EG complies with the European norm EN60950 safety of information technology equipment. The safe construction makes sure that persons or objects are not endangered. Do not open the unit, only permit repairs by authorised specialists! Do not use or install your unit in rooms with explosive material! Do not touch the device terminals with metallic or sharp objects! The last step when putting the unit into operation is to plug in the DSL plug or the LAN plug and the 230 V plug into the appropriate sockets after mounting! The first step when ending operation is to remove the 230 V plug and then the plug of the DSL connection cord or the LAN cord from the sockets! The connection cables of the unit may only be plugged into the designated sockets! In case the unit is damaged, it may not be put into operation, there is an immediate danger to life because of an electric shock. In case the power supply unit is damaged, you should first remove the fuse of the respective electric circuit in order to be able to remove the power supply unit without danger and replace it by another unit, if necessary! Never install the unit during a thunderstorm! Protect the unit from heat sources and direct sunlight! Protect the unit from dust, humidity, aggressive liquids and steam! The unit may only be connected to approved accessories! When cleaning the unit with an antistatic cloth or with a soft, slightly moistened cloth, make sure that it is disconnected from the mains voltage 230 V~! The unit should only be passed on to a third party including complete operating instructions! When the DSL modem alpha DSL WTM EG has reached the end of its service life, it has to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner! 2

Connection Connecting the alpha DSL WTM EG In the following picture you can see how you have to cable the alpha DSL WTM EG: splitter to the power supply unit to the PC 1. Connect Ethernet socket at alpha DSL WTM EG as well as LAN socket at PC (network card/ optionally switch / hub) or router with first RJ45 patch cable 2. Connect splitter as well as alpha DSL WTM EG with second RJ45 patch cable 3. Connect power supply unit 12 VDC / 1.25 A to alpha DSL WTM EG and then plug in 230 V socket. Information: The RJ45 patch cables can be exchanged with one another. Note: The use of network devices that are not approved can lead to the destruction of the alpha DSL WTM EG. Connecting sockets The alpha DSL WTM EG has the following connecting sockets: 1. Ethernet connecting socket RJ45 / standard Ethernet connection for computers or network devices with 10 or 100 Mbit/s 2. DSL connecting socket RJ45 for the connection to the DSL splitter 3. 12 VDC / 1.25 A connecting socket for the provided wall power supply 4

Mounting / Drilling template Mounting By means of the fastening angles that are included in the delivery, it is possible to attach the alpha DSL WTM EG to a wall or something similar. The fastening angles are to be attached to the housing of the alpha DSL WTM EG as shown in the following picture. Putting into operation Putting into operation and LEDs Required software drivers The communication between PC and DSL over the LAN connection is realized by means of PPPoE (Protocol Point to Point over Ethernet). The driver required for this has to be installed and activated on the PC to which the DSL modem is connected. Note: The PPPoE driver for current Windows versions can be downloaded e.g. from the website www.raspppoe.com. After correct cabling of the alpha DSL WTM EG, the following status indications should be visible at the front of the alpha DSL WTM EG (see picture page 3): Status indication Power DSL blinking DSL glowing permanently LAN / Ethernet Meaning Supply voltage available DSL training / dialogue between alpha DSL WTM EG and exchange / max. 10 min alpha DSL WTM EG is registered, training / synchronisation with exchange is terminated without data error LAN connection to the PC 7

Maintenance / Technical data Maintenance No maintenance is necessary at the alpha DSL WTM EG. In case the mains supply is switched off (power supply unit is disconnected from the 230 V socket), the alpha DSL WTM EG can be cleaned with an antistatic cloth or with a soft, dry cloth.
