SGW Accountancy Services provides a full range of services including stocktaking for public houses and other licensed premises in South and South East England. The benefits of working with us The public house industry has historically managed the various financial services it requires across a number of suppliers, with all that this implies in terms of contact frequency, organisational demands and cost. The key benefit for public houses in working with SGW Accountancy Services is that the range of financial services you require including accounts production, tax returns, book-keeping, payroll services and cash-flow forecasts is more effectively managed by one supplier. And it s more efficient, with quarterly visits allowing not only stocktaking but also VAT computations, for example. Stocktaking Tim Cole, a SGW Accountancy Services Director, is a Fellow of the Institute of Licensed Trade Stock Auditors. Whether yours is a tied or non-tied business, we can manage all of your: full extended bar results till variances on all products sold advice on pricing food stocktaking till and cash reconciliations regular and annual audits end-of-year valuations hand over valuations for incoming and outgoing licensees stocktaking for probate and insurance purposes. SGW Accountancy Services can also carry out benchmarking (wet and dry trade) alerting you to any seasonality in your business. Clients find this extremely useful, particularly as it can prevent diarising a special event on a day that is unlikely to see much business traffic. Appointing the right professional In a business world dominated by extensive legislation and guidelines, the services of a professional accountant are needed as much by small to medium sized enterprises as they are by much larger companies. Engaging a professional service can, however, be a daunting proposition for business owners and the accountancy profession s reputation has done little to diminish this apprehension. Often perceived as stuffy and unapproachable, expensive and with a grim reaper image, large accountancy firms have damaged their standing in the small and medium-sized business community still further with initiatives that have culled less profitable clients or those for whom their services would not meet the minimum client fee. The profession has also been devalued - and in some cases tarnished - by so-called internet accountants. These offer a reduction in fees if liaison with a client can be conducted over the internet. In this scenario, the client scans all documents and submits them over the internet. However, although the internet accountant can produce, for example, a VAT return and annual accounts, there is no personal touch and no facility to provide the advice often needed by small businesses. There is also room for error. Stuart Whitehouse, SGW Accountancy Services s founder, has long understood the dynamics of the accountancy market-place and recognised a niche in the market for a more small and medium sized business friendly accountancy service. Our business ethos includes: our approachability and year-round availability a realistic approach to fees that does not, for example, leave clients with the perception that even a simple call-back will cost a fortune a clarity of communication born of a desire for clients to understand their business financials and not be left baffled by technicalities and jargon. These elements remain the basic tenets of SGW Accountancy Services s approach and are enjoyed by over 200 clients. New licensees New licensees face many challenges. SGW Accountancy Services can help new licensees manage the financial side of their business. We can also help protect them against the pitfalls, including ensuring their compliance with legislation and other guidelines. Accounting, stocktaking and consultancy services for the Licensed Trade
A responsible approach Since our inception in 2003, SGW Accountancy Services has focused on the provision of tax affairs support, business and personal accountancy services, book-keeping, preparation of VAT returns, payroll services, cash flow forecasts, business plan formation and business start-up support (including registration and preparation of paperwork) for clients in the South and South East. We have done this with the objective of providing legally responsible support. This means that we will, for example, under the provisions of 2007 Money Laundering Regulations, verify our existing and prospective clients identities. We are also obliged to hold and maintain a Data Protection Licence and to report under law any suspicious activity to the Serious Organised Crimes Agency. Similarly, with our tax affairs support service, our aim is to ensure that the client pays the right tax. This is how we are careful to present ourselves, rather than making inaccurate claims about tax savings. That said, we do, of course, provide tax haven advice but always with an eye on meeting legal requirements. We are proud of our ethical approach. It means that you can be confident of our proper conduct in managing the services we provide you. Our promise Stuart Whitehouse s approach to providing accountancy and other related services remains the ethos of SGW Accountancy Services and all members of staff: We promise: that we will offer, to the best of our professional knowledge, accurate, compliant and tax efficient advice to ensure that all deadlines are met to collect, safeguard and return all paperwork in pristine condition to be available throughout the year for discussion and to provide advice on business matters to spread the cost of accountancy and other services over twelve months where this is a requirement (with payment by standing order). Stuart Whitehouse SGW Accountancy Services s founder, Stuart Whitehouse started his accountancy practice as a sole trader and has since grown the business to a limited company. The business has flourished in no small part due to Stuart s understanding of the dynamics of the financial services market-place in which he recognised early on a niche in the market for a more small and medium sized business-friendly accountancy service. Notwithstanding the business incorporation in April 2005 and our merger with Addstock in August 2010, SGW Accountancy Services maintains this niche focus with Stuart and Tim Cole as joint Directors. Tim Cole SGW Accountancy Services Director Tim Cole has had over 25 years experience in bar and food stocktaking for the licensed trade. A fellow of the Institute of Licensed Trade Stock Auditors, Tim has worked for breweries but has more recently concentrated on tenants, lessees and independent free houses.
