Support to Reading Groups Purpose: To set out the basis on which stock is supplied to Reading Groups and to outline other forms of support offered. Libraries & Information will support Reading Groups by providing group library membership that entitles the group to the following: Access to the full collection of reading group book sets. Online account access to enable self-service management of book set reservations. Free online reservations for reading group book sets. Extended issue period of 8 weeks for reading group book sets. Information regarding reading groups in local libraries may be displayed or put in Community Information Folders. Information on website for reading groups including useful websites, links and offers from publishers. Free use of library buildings as venues for Reading Group meetings We request that: Groups nominate one named individual to be responsible for the Library group account including reservations. A valid email address is required for the group to receive information, offers and system notifications. Information regarding Reading Group membership: Reading Group Sets consist of 10 books (unless otherwise stated in the catalogue) and these should be borrowed and returned as a complete set. Overdue notifications will be sent where applicable but no fines will be accrued. If books are overdue group lending rights may be blocked until the matter is resolved. Reading Groups can only borrow specified reading group sets with their reading group card. Extra copies and alternative formats may be available but should be borrowed by individuals using their personal library membership card. A group can have a maximum of 2 active reservations at one time.
Guidelines for Reading Groups What you need to do Please ask in your local library if you need any help getting started with this new process. Visit the library catalogue to browse and reserve your next reading group set. http://capitadiscovery.co.uk/gloslibraries Go to the Browse links on the left hand side of the home page and select the Reading Group Sets link. Alternatively, type the following short link into your browser to go straight to the books: bit.ly/glosrgsets All sets contain the text: READING GROUP SET after the title. All sets include 10 books unless otherwise stated in the title line e.g. READING GROUP SET (6 COPIES ONLY) We have more than one set of some books. Each set is represented by one item barcode in the catalogue. If there are two sets of a title this will be represented by two items. The example in Appendix B shows one set is available and one is currently on loan, due back 13 th March. To reserve a set, log in with your reading group card number and PIN, find a title and click: Reserve this item You can also login to create and save a list of books for future by clicking the save button instead. It is important to be flexible with your book choice. We recommend selecting a title with no existing reservations that is showing Status: available. This will ensure it reaches your chosen collection library within 1-2 weeks The status will give some indication of how long it will take to get hold of the set. o Available = Set is available for loan o Due back = The set is on loan and due back at a library on the given date o In Transit = Set is between sites it is best to avoid reserving in transit sets as the display does not indicate if a set is in transit to a Reading Group for collection or returning to library headquarters. If you do reserve a set that is on loan or already reserved you will go into a queue and we cannot guarantee that you will receive the books exactly when you require them. As a guide, the process of reservation, collection, loan & return can take up to 12 weeks (assuming the books are returned on time) When your set arrives at your chosen collection site an email notification will be generated and sent to the email address in your reading group account. A reserved set will be kept at a library for up to 2 weeks pending collection.
