Manual Safescan TA-655 In the box: Safescan Time Attendance terminal CD with Safescan Time Attendance Software Quick-Guide Power adapter with removable EUR and UK plug USB cable 1x RFID card The Safescan TA-655 Time Attendance System records the check in and check out time of your employees. The time records for each employee are stored in the Safescan registration terminal and can be uploaded to the PC through a USB connection, using the Safescan Time Attendance Software. The terminal is a desktop stand-alone model. The Safescan TA-655 offers registration by fingerprint, password and RFID card. The Safescan Time Attendance Software enables you to make selections of time attendance records, sorted per period of time (e.g. day, month or a specific period) and per employee or department. Reports can be printed or exported for further use in Excel. User logs and records can easily be adjusted or ignored and new logs can be added. 1.0 Installation of the terminal A. Install the battery. B. Connect the USB cable to the mains adapter and to the terminal to charge the battery. Press <On/Off> ( ) to turn the terminal on. The terminal is now ready for use. Charge the battery for 8 hours. 3

C. Connect the USB cable to the PC to synchronize the terminal with the Safescan Time Attendance Software. The TA is installed automatically by your PC as USB mass storage device. 2.0 Function keys On/Off key Escape: to cancel an operation or to exit the menu OK Enroll password/card: to enroll new users with password or ID card, or to add/change the passwords or ID card to/of enrolled users Time set: to set the time, date and alarm clock, to change the language, or to start the automatic test Enroll fingerprint: to enroll new users with fingerprint, or to add/change fingerprints to/of enrolled users Delete user: to delete enrolled users In/Up: to set Check-In mode, or to scroll up Out/Down: to set Check-Out mode, or to scroll down 3.0 Language settings Language ENG You can set the language for the information displayed on the screen. You can also set the type of voice prompt. Press four times 5 (5555), and then the TimeSet key. The language selection interface is displayed. 4

4.0 Time settings Scheduled 08:00 16-5-2012 10:04:30 Press the TimeSet key. The time setting interface is displayed. Press the IN or OUT key to navigate and modify the time. You can navigate to the scheduled alarm clock position to set the alarm clock. As shown in the figure, the scheduled alarm clock is set to 08:00. You can press the Del User key at any position of the scheduled alarm clock to disable the scheduled alarm clock. Then, the scheduled alarm clock time becomes --:--. 5.0 User enrollment and verification 5.1 Enrolling Fingerprints User ID 00001 1. Press the Enroll FP key. The fingerprint enrollment interface is displayed. Note: The user ID consists of five digits. If the input ID is shorter than five digits, the device automatically adds 0s to the beginning of the input ID. For example, 00001 is displayed on the screen if the input ID is 1. 00001-0 Place Finger... ESC/Exit 2. Input the user ID to be enrolled in the number input column. Note that the input ID must range from 1 to 65534. Then, press the OK key. Place Finger is displayed on the screen. 00001-0 (Save) 3. Place your finger correctly three times in a row. After the fingerprint is successfully enrolled, press the OK key to save the result or press the ESC key to exit without saving the result. If the enrollment fails, the system gives a prompt. Go to step 2) to proceed with the enrollment. Continue? 4. If you press the OK key, the interface as shown on the left is displayed. Press the OK key to continue to enroll users (repeat the previous steps), or press the ESC key. ESC OK Backup Enroll Continue? User ID 00001 5. Input the user ID to be backed up in the number input column. Note that the input ID must range from 1 to 65534. Then, press the OK key. 5

Backup Enroll 00001-1 Place Finger... ESC/Exit 6. Press your finger three times. After the fingerprint is successfully enrolled, press the OK key to save the result or press the ESC key to exit without saving the result. If the enrollment fails, the system gives a prompt. Go to step 5. to proceed with the enrollment. Backup Enroll Continue? ESC OK (Save) 7. If you press the OK key, the interface as shown on the left is displayed. Press the OK key to continue to back up user IDs, or press the ESC key to exit the Backup Enroll interface and proceed with a new enrollment (the operation steps are the same as those described previously). 5.2 Enrolling RFID Cards Menu Enroll Pwd Reg RFID 1. Press the Pwd/Card key. The menu as shown in the left figure is displayed. Press the IN or OUT key, select Reg RF ID, and then press the OK key. Reg RFID? 2. Press the OK key to make a new enrollment, or press the ESC key to enter the Backup Enroll interface. ESC OK 3. Input the user ID to be enrolled in the number input column. Note that the input ID must range from 1 to 65534. Then, press the OK key. User ID 00010 Show the card User ID 00010 4. Show your card according to the prompt. The left figure shows the information displayed after the card number is read. Card: 16650449 User ID 00010 5. Press the OK key to proceed to the next step. 6

00010-C 6. Press the OK key to save the enrolled data and finish the ID card enrollment process. ESC OK(Save) 5.3 Enrolling Passwords Menu Enroll Pwd Reg RFID 1. Press the Pwd/Card key. The interface as shown in the figure to the left is displayed: Press the in or OUT key, select Enroll Pwd, and then press the OK key. Enroll Pwd? 2. Press the OK key to proceed to the next step. The figure to the left shows the displayed information. ESC OK User ID 00001 3. Input the user ID to be enrolled in the number input column. Note that the input ID must range from 1 to 65534. Then, press the OK key. Input Pwd is displayed on the screen. Press the ESC key to exit to the menu interface. 4. Input your password (consisting of one to five digits) in the Input Pwd column. Input Pwd ***** Input Pwd ***** Pwd Affirm ***** 5. Input the password again the Pwd Affirm column, and then press the OK key. Save the enrolled data to finish the password enrollment process. 7

When using the device for the first time (that is, the administrator is not yet enrolled), press the enrollment key to enroll the administrator and common users. To guarantee security of device management, it is recommended that the administrator be enrolled first. Only one administrator can be enrolled by default. The administrator number is 8888. When no administrator is enrolled, anybody can press the enrollment key to enroll users. When the administrator has been enrolled, however, the administrator s verification is required after the enrollment key has been pressed to enroll a user. Note: After the administrator is enrolled, all menu operations must be confirmed by the administrator. 5.4 Deleting users Del User User ID 00010 Users enrolled in the system can be deleted. Press the Del User key. The Del User interface is displayed, as shown in the figure to the left. Input the user ID to be deleted, and then press the OK key. After the user is deleted, the Del User interface is displayed again for you to delete the next user. Press the ESC key to exit. 6.0 Power management The device is equipped with USB interface power and backup battery. When the USB interface power adapter is supplying power to the device, the backup battery is charged at the same time for not less than eight hours. Once the power supply is cut off or the USB interface power is unavailable, the device automatically switches to the backup battery to obtain power. The fully charged backup battery enable the device to run for approximately 4 hours. A battery icon is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen for users to check the status and remaining power of the backup battery. When the device is only using the backup battery for its power supply the icon shows how much power remains in the backup battery. When the device is using both the UBS interface adapter and the backup battery for its power supply, the icon shows the charging status and the power remaining in the backup battery. When the device is using only the USB interface power adapter the icon is not displayed. When the battery icon shows 0 grids, the battery icon flashes and this goes on for five minutes. When the terminal is connected to the PC or power adapter, it can operate without a battery (no battery icon visible). When the battery is installed and the terminal is connected to the USB power adapter or PC, the battery will be charged. A fully charged battery enables the terminal to run continuously for approximately 4 hours when the USB power supply is cut off. When the battery icon flashes and shows no grids the battery is completely depleted, all settings and information will be memorized. Press and hold <On/Off> for 3 seconds to switch off the terminal. 6.1 Checking In/Out To check in, press the IN key. IN is displayed on the LCD screen. Then proceed with fingerprint, RFID card or password verification. To check out, press the OUT key. OUT is displayed on the LCD screen. Then, proceed with fingerprint, RFID card or password verification. 8

7.0 Automatic test FLASH Test Pls Keep Pwr On Continue? In the initial interface, press four times 6 (6666) followed by the TimeSet key. A prompt is displayed, as shown in the following figure. Press the OK key to enter the automatic test mode. The test sequence is FLASH test, TFT test, FP Reader, Key test, and RTC test in turn. Ensure the stability of the power supply during the tests, especially during the FLASH test. Otherwise damage may be caused to the system hardware. 8.0 Attendance Management The device is equipped with USB interface power and backup battery. When the USB interface power adapter is supplying power to the device, the backup battery is charged at the same time for not less than eight hours. Once the power supply is cut off or the USB interface power is unavailable, the device automatically switches to the backup batteries to obtain power. The fully charged backup batteries enable the device to run for approximately 4 hours. 9.0 Gerenal remarks To authenticate with a password, first enter the User ID. Users can operate the TA with their RFID card/key fob or fingerprint without entering their User ID. To change between the different Check-In/Check-Out modes, press <In/Up> or <Out/Down>. When the TA is unable to work normally due to error operations, restart the device by pressing the reset button at the left hand side of the terminal by means of a pointed tool. For all PC communication matters via USB, see the Time Attendance software manual. Back-up regularly! You can do this by means of the Backup button in the software (in Settings ).
