Introduction Africa is a prolific basin yet remains under-explored, by global standards. As a result, its commanding increased investor attention in the capital markets. A number of emerging companies are making their mark in Africa, and several of them are here with us today. MRCC has championed emerging international oil and gas companies over the past decade, and are engaged on several opportunities for energy investment in Africa. 1

Africa Oil & Gas: Key Facts In 2011 Africa produced 3.2 billion barrels of oil and 202.7 billion cubic metres of natural gas, accounting for 10.4% and 6.2% of the worlds production, respectively. Africas proved oil reserves account for 8% of the worlds oil reserves. In 2012 to date, 5 M&A transactions have been completed, totaling $822 million. The average M&A transaction size rose in 2012 to $164 million from $77 million in 2011.
