Nortel Networks Succession Solutions High-performance Internet Telephony for the enterprise for the Enterprise

When Nortel Networks asked: What do you want Internet Telephony to be? We heard: As reliable as dial tone. Feature-rich. Open and standards-based. Compatible with our traditional communications systems. Future-proof. In my network now!

The Internet and Telephony Come Together in Succession Solutions for the Enterprise Succession Solutions deliver the high-performance Internet Telephony that enterprises need and offer a choice of two compatible paths to harness the full power of converged Internet Telephony solutions. Whether enterprises want to extend and preserve installed telephony systems or whether they want to implement a fully distributed, standards-based converged system, Succession provides two future-proof solutions today. Succession for Enterprise - Telephony Services Designed to enrich LANs, WANs and Intranets with feature-rich unified voice and data applications, Succession for Enterprise - Telephony Services is a fully-distributed, open and standards-based Internet Telephony system. Its distributed architecture is built upon Nortel Networks High Performance network Architecture (HPA), our blueprint for convergence and roadmap for customers to obtain truly Unified Networks. Key solution products include: Succession Communication Server for Enterprise - Telephony Services, the feature-rich and scalable Windows NT based call-processing component. Succession Media Gateway for Enterprise, which provides the interface between circuit-switched networks and devices (PSTN, ISDN) and packet-switched IP networks. Applications Servers, which provide unified Messaging, Call Centre and Network Management Services throughout monosite and multisite IP networks. M6500 IP and Meridian 1IP Our IP-enabled M6500 IP and Meridian 1IP communications systems now provide full IP networking on the entire range of our traditional enterprise communications products and peripherals. These systems offer a seamless, well-paced evolution from circuit-switched systems to full IP integration and allow enterprises to deploy unified IP applications in their installed bases.

Key attributes of Succession Internet Telephony Solutions for the Enterprise The Succession portfolio delivers the key elements that your network and business require to compete and succeed using Internet Telephony. Whether your network architecture is data- or voicecentric, Succession Solutions can position your network and your business for the future. Unified high-value applications The combination of traditional telephony applications with the ubiquity and innovation of the Internet Protocol (IP) allows you to deploy new classes of applications that empower users, increase productivity and improve the overall customer experience. Succession Internet Telephony Solutions integrate the full complement of voice and data applications: Unified messaging services that combine voice, fax, and e-mail Speech activated calling and messaging Unified directories Advanced automatic call distribution capabilities Web-enabled call centers Computer-telephony integration (CTI) applications Complete set of mobility services including multisite roaming and fixed/mobile convergence Simplified, unified management for voice and data Unified network management is a new category of network management and the convergence of voice and data cannot be cost-effective without it. Succession Solutions allow customers to consolidate the management of IP/Telephony infrastructures, applications, directories, and policies under a single unified management umbrella. Succession Solutions integrate comprehensive management systems for voice and data that deliver systemlevel visibility into network performance in all domains: configuration, performance,

accounting, fault, and security. This provides network managers with the granular data required to make intelligent deployment decisions, troubleshoot networks, and understand the general health of the network. Our Solutions are built on the highperformance functionalities of our existing management centers that now are integrated within the premier and predominant LAN manager in the marketplace: Optivity. Choice of user terminals Succession Internet Telephony Solutions support the full range of devices needed to deliver the wealth of new possibilities enabled in the IP world: IP terminals (Ethersets), Universal Serial Bus (USB) telephones, dedicated IP PCs, and Software Phones ( softphones ). Legacy digital, analog, and wireless sets are also fully compatible. IP terminals, such as the i2004 Internet Telephone, allow users to access information on the internet or intranet while engaged in a voice call. These terminals also provide seamless operation with today s high value e- business services. With their support of international characters, IP terminals are truly global devices that are supported on multiple Communication Server platforms and on customer premise and carrier-based equipment. Exceptional Policy Services for highest possible QoS When data and voice traffic all compete for the same network resources, how do you ensure that your network understands your business traffic priorities? By setting priorities in the order of their importance to your business. Succession Solutions provide exceptional Policy Services that deliver the control of QoS levels that you need to efficiently use your bandwidth. For example, you can prioritize business-critical Voice over IP applications traffic over routine internet traffic, which has less business significance. A centralized web-based interface allows you to manage your QoS priorities and distribute them across your network. Our Solutions continue to provide dynamic QoS monitoring that moves calls from the IP network to ISDN or traditional telephone lines when quality levels in the IP network fall below programmed thresholds. Policy Services and dynamic QoS monitoring combine to provide the highest degree of communications quality in complete transparence to users. Multi-vendor interworking Open protocols at the network level IP, QSIG, H.323, MGCP, SIP, SNMP, LDAP ensure ease of interworking with other vendor products. Use of standard protocols and applications components also ensures interworking with existing network architectures and business applications.
