Finding Legislation 1. Click on the Legislation specialist search form tab. Note: You can click on Browse Legislation to browse through all legislation on the service. 2. You may wish to restrict your search by entering the legislation title or by entering the article number and/or type or date parameters. Note: select the relevant Topic(s) to find all legislation categorized against a particular practice area. 3. Select the appropriate source from the Sources drop-down list. 4. Click on Search to retrieve your search results. 5. The Results Group panel on the left displays results by Source Name, Publication Type and Topic. On the right, each piece of legislation is displayed as a separate document. 6. Click on the required document title link to open up the document. Note: Click on Find related cases to view all cases that have elaborated on the particular article. 7. Click on the pdf icon on the banner to view the Legislation in Arabic.
Finding a Case 1. Click on the Cases specialist search form tab. Note: You can click on Browse Cases to browse through all cases on the service. 2. You may wish to restrict your search by entering the Case Number, Date, Court and/or Jurisdiction. Note: select the relevant Topic(s) to find all Cases categorized against a particular practice area. 3. Select the appropriate source from the Sources drop-down list. Note: Use the Legislation search option to find relevant case materials on a particular article of legislation. 4. Click on Search to retrieve your search results. 5. The Results Group panel on the left will open. Results can be grouped by Source Name, Publication Type, Topic and Court/Tribunal. On the right, each case is displayed as a separate document. Note: Select List with Catchwords to review the catchwords to quickly see if a particular case is relevant to your search.
Finding Commentary 1. Click on the Commentary specialist search form tab. Note: You can click on Browse Commentary to browse through all legislation on the service. 2. You may wish to restrict your search by entering the Heading and/or Jurisdiction. Note: select the relevant Topic(s) to find all commentary categorized against a particular practice area. 3. Select the appropriate source from the Sources drop-down list. 4. Click on Search to retrieve your search results. 5. From the results, click on the relevant link to view the commentary document.
Finding News 1. Click on the News specialist search form tab. 2. You may wish to restrict your search by entering the Title, Jurisdiction or Date. Note: select the relevant Topic(s) to find all news categorized against a particular practice area. 3. Select the appropriate source from the Sources drop-down list. 4. Click on Search to retrieve your search results. 5. From the results, click on the relevant link to view the news story. Delivering a document 1. From your search results, select documents to print, e-mail or download by ticking the boxes that appear to the left of the document title. 2. In the upper right-hand corner of your Results page, click on the delivery icon you would like to use: Print, E-mail or Download.
Creating an alert 1. To create a topic/subject based alert, click on the Manage my alerts link on the navigation bar. 2. Click on Create a New Alert in the top right-hand corner 3. Enter the alert name and email address to receive the alert 4. Enter your alert options: Select frequency of update Select topic(s) Select jurisdiction 5. Save your alert You can edit/delete your alerts via the same Manage my alerts link Request a document 1. Click on Request a Document to request a document not currently on the service. Connectors Connectors and wildcards enable you to conduct more efficient and effective searching on Lexis Middle East Law. The key connectors are outlined below: and finds your search terms within the same document. For example: free zone and Dubai finds the phrase free zone and the word Dubai within the same document or finds abbreviations or synonyms. For example: VAT or value added tax lawyer or counsel finds the words lawyer or counsel, or both within the same document w/n links search words and phrases by giving them a proximity to each other. The letter n stands for any number from 1 to 255. For example: dismissal w/5 constructive finds dismissal within five words or fewer of constructive, regardless of which word appears first.! Truncator: replaces any number of characters at the end of a word. For example: negligen! finds negligent, negligence and negligently * Wildcard: replaces a single character at any point in a word, except for the first character. For example: cl*rk* finds clerk, clark and Clarke
