DIXI 1730 and 1738 - The process 1: 2: The workpiece is positionned in front of the tool wich is rotating at high speed. The tool is introduced into the workpiece by the sliding of the headstock which drives the workpiece. s s 3: The part rotates slowly, either in the direction of the tool or opposing direction, depending on the type of thread (left pitch/right pitch). The tool, witch is conveyed by a numeric axis penetrates into the material of the revolving part by lateral displacement. The offset is equal to the depth of the thread being machined. s c 4: The thread is executed in a single pass. Both the workpiece and tool rotate. The workpiece withdrawn at the speed of one pitch per revolution of spindle. s c

DIXI 1730 and 1738 - Technical information DIXI 1730 : s c Workpiece: 20-60 rpm 8'000-40 000 tr/min (1 or 2 seconds per pitch) Minimal Ø of the thread : ISO M0,80 x 0,20 Length of the thread up to 5 times the diameter Tool life expectancy: from 1 500 to 6 000 threads according to the threaded Ø, material of the workpiece, length of the thread. Example : 1 500 threads M1,60 in titanium. This is the most effective technique to machine internal threads in tough materials as titanium or stainless steel. Excellent surface finish, without burrs.

Advantages Less problem with chips (short chips as it is a milling process). The customer does not have to stop the machine for chip evacuation.the thread whirling process is more profitable than the tapping process Higher precision in comparison to traditional tapping process. This technique allows to adjust the diameter according to the required tolerances (6H, 5H) The threads are completed very close to the bottom of the holes in blind holes.
