NIELSEN LOCAL TV VIEW PROGRAM ANALYSIS RELEASE NOTES MARCH 2015
PROGRAM ANALYSIS The Program Analysis is now available in Nielsen Local TV View (NLTV). This report will allow you to analyze the audience associated with one or more broadcast or cable programs. Analyses can be run within or across DMAs. The program search feature provided supports both broad selections (i.e. Package) and/or granular selections down to the telecast level. Data for the Program Analysis report begins with the start date of February 4, 2010. PROGRAM SEARCH BY NETWORK/STATION The Program Search will automatically restrict your results to the Date Range, Geography and/or Genres selected. You can also restrict your search to specific viewing sources by making a selection on the Source/Entity screen. STANDARD PROGRAM SEARCH If you want to see all programs that fall within the selected Date Range, Geographies, Viewing Sources and Genres selected, simply click on the Search button. NLTV will return all programs that fall within those selections. For example, if you select the LN - Local News, NLTV will return all programs across all viewing sources for your selected markets that match the LN - Local News. NOTE WHEN SUBMITTING A REPORT, A SELECTION IS REQUIRED IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS: SOURCE/ENTITY, GENRE, OR PROGRAM SEARCH. TO SEARCH FOR A SPECIFIC PROGRAM: 1.) Select Contains, Starts With, or Exact Match, then enter your text in the Search box. 2.) Make a selection in the Show by drop-down. This will control the level of detail included in your search results. The available options are as follows: Market Displays programs by Market. If a program has aired in more than one requested market, an individual row will be displayed for each market. Package Displays programs by their Package Name. Package is the highest level of the program hierarchy and is an umbrella name that ties multiple variations of the same program together. ADVANCED PROGRAM SEARCH Advanced search gives you the ability to search for a program name within a smaller subset of your selections. For example, baseball is on a regional sports network in your market and always uses the same program name. Instead of searching for the program across dates that range from April to October, Advanced search allows you to look across one week within that range to find the desired Program Name. The Advanced Search button is represented by a magnifying glass icon. SEARCH TAB The Search tab includes the same criteria as the main search prompt. This tab, however, also allows you to restrict your search results by Originator. The Originators drop-down will allow you to return only the programming that was produced by the originator of Choice. To search for programs from a specific Originator, select the desired originator from the Originator drop-down, and click apply. NOTE When a selection is made on any tab within Advanced search, the tab will turn red indicating that a selection was made. DATE RANGE The date range tab allows you to narrow your program search to a smaller selection of dates by either unchecking unwanted date ranges or by choosing specific dates on the Override Date Range toolbar. To select specific dates, click the Override Date Range Checkbox and select the desired Start/End Date and Days of Week. 4 VISIT http://en-us.nielsen.com/sitelets/cls/nltv.html OR CALL 1-800-423-4511
GEOGRAPHY, SOURCE/ENTITY, GENRE To further focus your search you can uncheck selections on the Geographies, Source/Entity or Genre tabs. The program search will only look for programs in the remaining selections. For example, if you uncheck Big City, Townsville, and Everytown, then the program search will only look for names that appeared in Anytown. NOTE A blue plus sign is added to the Advanced Search button to indicate selections were made. GENRE The Program Analysis report allows you to focus your results on a specific Genre. To select the desired Genre, click on the checkbox next to the Genres you wish to view. Genres differ between Broadcast/Local programming and Cable. Please use the Applies to column as a guide when selecting genres for your report. You can filter the list of available genres based on type. Using NLTV features like Column filtering, you can sort the column and select only the genres types you need. Create Custom Genre groups By combining Genres together in a custom group, you can make one selection on your report to cover your specific areas of interest. For example, group similar genres together to create a custom collection i.e. Talk Shows. Copyright 2015 The Nielsen Company 5

CHARACTERISTICS Program Analysis reports can be run for the Total DMA and/or the Cable Status = Yes characteristic. In addition, Black and Hispanic data is available in select markets. REPORT VIEWER The Report Viewer for the Program Analysis report functions in the same manner as the Time Period Standard report. Dimensions can be rearranged, added or removed from the layout in order to achieve the desired format. Below are some additional key features to note in this report. SUBTOTALS/GRAND TOTALS The Program Analysis report will have the ability to apply subtotals/grand totals. This includes the ability to apply cross-market program averages. Subtotals can be applied as long as the resulting values are valid and do not result in double-counting of data. The system will automatically determine the dimensions for which subtotals can be applied and only display those options for selection. For example, if Anytown and Anytown Metro are rows in the report, a subtotal cannot be applied to the Geography dimension (since theses geographies overlap). To apply Subtotals/Grand Totals to your report, click the ( ) Edit Totals button on the toolbar. In this example, an average was applied to the Geography and to the report. POSITIONAL RANK When ranking has been applied in a Program Analysis report, you can display a Positional Rank, which will rank groups of rows based on the current layout (i.e. Provide a unique rank for all Programs within Geography 1, Geography 2, etc.). To apply Positional Rank, click the Positional Rank button on the toolbar. 8 VISIT http://en-us.nielsen.com/sitelets/cls/nltv.html OR CALL 1-800-423-4511
