Description Follow the route of the ancient medieval merchants Through the Puglia region a fascinating route unwinds that starts from the Via Appia (Appian Way), and crosses the Apennines to delve into the mountainous stretches of Irpinia: this is the. In the early second century A.D., this route became a tried and true variant, wanted by Emperor Trajan, to which he added his name. The trail is divided in two parts - the first of about 17 Km, the second of 72 Km - and can be completed in four days. The first leg extends from Celle San Vito, a small town perched on a high hill and a Franco-Provençal linguistic island, to Troia, a city with a millenary history. Along this route, you can admire the original road that is still intact and imagine it furrowed by the steps of medieval merchants. You will cross the Ofanto river, over a bridge on which still remain several traces of a subsequent medieval structure. From here, you can proceed in the direction of Cerignola, then on to the Civitas Canusio, the current Canosa, and Ordona, a town built on the ruins of an ancient agricultural village, with a valuable archaeological heritage.
