ABOUT THE POSITION The Chief Information Officer reports directly to the CFO and a member of the executive leadership team of Unity. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of overall Page 2 of 10
Information Technology Services strategy. The Chief Information Officer provides leadership, direction and administration for Unity s Information Technology Services (ITS) including Web Operations, Infrastructure, Data Management and Business Intelligence. The Chief Information Officer is responsible for all computer system development, implementation, and upgrades; computer operations; support provided by the Help Desk; database management; network services; data communications and internet infrastructure; security; and all relevant ITS policies, procedures, and technology contracts. This position ensures the internal and external customers can obtain accurate, complete and timely data for business operations. Responsibilities Include: Develop and maintain a strategic technology plan and associated tactical technology plans. IT Integration of Unity s core systems with other health systems and health plans. Provide leadership for the process of determining the priorities, projects and future directions of the Company s IT functions to achieve maximum company-wide efficiencies. Maintain active communication with the CEO, CFO and executive leadership team pertaining to strategic ITS issues that affect the organization. Communicate frequently and effectively to the Company about technology projects and issues. Provide leadership to IT functions by developing a high performing, service-focused and team-oriented department culture, driven off of strategic objectives and goals. Direct IT staff to maintain industry knowledge through training, conferences, etc. Remain knowledgeable of market and industry trends, competitors, and all aspects of Unity s market. Identify and evaluate new vendors, products, and features of potential value to Unity. Establish and maintain successful relationships with community leaders and organizations such as the Wisconsin EPIC Users Group and the Dane County Health Information Exchange, various governmental entities and other external and internal stakeholders. Identify and implement best practice in management staff, systems projects, and resources. Provide guidance and direction to the ITS team and provide direct supervision of staff. Develop a system of depth with the department to ensure functional areas can be covered in the absence of key employees. Play an active role on the Incident Response Team and ensure ITS Business Continuity Plan is complete and current. Develop the departmental budgets, monitor budget performance and assure corrective action as needed. As needed, represent the Company at various community activities; meet and network regularly with business leaders in the community. Page 3 of 10
Review current and make recommendations for future departmental metrics and scorecards. Continually identify trends and best practices in the IT field and adopt those which support the organization s strategic objectives. Collaborate and integrate strategy with partners in UW Medical Foundation and UW Hospitals and Clinics. Page 4 of 10

Professional Experience/Skills: Bachelor s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business or equivalent combination of education and relevant business experience required, with a Master s degree preferred. Several years of progressively responsible experience in MIS including at several years management level experience required. Several years relevant experience in health care, health insurance or HMO setting required. A demonstrated ability and track record to work collaboratively in a team based culture with business partners using structure project management approach in an IT business sponsor model. Excellent, well-developed professional communication skills (written and verbal) with strong ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization. Proven ability to express a clear vision of future goals and organizational expectations and inspire others to achieve the goals. Demonstrated ability to lead system wide initiatives, interaction across multiple departments. Knowledge of health insurance and business operations required. Specifically: electronic claims, enrollment, accounting, premium billing and provider contracting preferred. Proven success in leading teams with the ability to provide effective leadership to staff and other stakeholders in a group decision making process is required. Extensive knowledge of and ability to use various computer programs such as Microsoft Office and programs/system utilized in ITS actives. Knowledge of EPIC systems is high desirable. Proven flexibility and an open-minded thought process. A high degree of diplomacy and persuasiveness to cultivate effective working relationships.
