AP Studio Art General Portfolio evaluations require submission of artwork exemplifying talent in drawing, color organization, design, and sculpture. 10-12 AP Music Theory is designed to be the equivalent of a first-year music theory college course as specified by the College Board. AP Music Theory develops students understanding of musical structure and compositional procedures. Usually intended for students who already possess performance-level skills, AP Music Theory extends and builds upon students knowledge of intervals, scales, chords, metric/rhythmic patterns, and the ways they interact in a composition. Mathematics 11580 Advanced Placement Statistics 11581 Advanced Placement Calculus AB 11582 Advanced Placement Calculus BC 10-12 Following the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level statistics courses, AP Statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. 10-12 Following the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level calculus courses, AP Calculus AB provides students with an intuitive understanding of the concepts of calculus and experience with its methods and applications. This course introduces calculus and include the following topics: elementary functions; properties of functions and their graphs; limits and continuity; differential calculus (including definition of the derivative, derivative formulas, theorems about derivatives, geometric applications, optimization problems, and rate-of-change problems); and integral calculus (including antiderivatives and the definite integral). 10-12 Following the College Board's suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level calculus courses, AP Calculus BC provides students with an intuitive understanding of the concepts of calculus and experience with its methods and applications, and also require additional knowledge of the theoretical tools of calculus. This course assumes a thorough knowledge of elementary functions, and cover all of the calculus topics in AP Calculus AB as well as the following topics: vector functions, parametric equations, and polar coordinates; rigorous definitions of finite and nonexistent limits; derivatives of vector functions and parametrically defined functions; advanced techniques of integration and advanced applications of the definite integral; and sequences and series. Science 13580 Advanced Placement Biology 10-12 Adhering to the curricula recommended by the College Board and designed to parallel college level introductory biology courses, AP Biology stresses basic facts and their synthesis into major biological concepts and themes. This course covers three general areas: molecules and cells (including biological chemistry and energy transformation); genetics and evolution; and organisms and populations (i.e., taxonomy, plants, animals, and ecology). AP Biology courses include college-level laboratory experiments. 13581 Advanced Placement Chemistry 13582 Advanced Placement Environmental Science 13584 Advanced Placement Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism 13585 Advanced Placement Physics C: Mechanics 13586 Advanced Placement Physics 1: Algebra-Based 10-12 Following the curricula recommended by the College Board, AP Chemistry usually follows high school chemistry and second-year algebra. Topics covered may include atomic theory and structure; chemical bonding; nuclear chemistry; states of matter; and reactions (stoichiometry, equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamics). AP Chemistry laboratories are equivalent to those of typical college courses. 10-12 AP Environmental Science is designed by the College Board to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, identify and analyze environmental problems (both natural and human made), evaluate the relative risks associated with the problems, and examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. Topics covered include science as a process, ecological processes and energy conversions, earth as an interconnected system, the impact of humans on natural systems, cultural and societal contexts of environmental problems, and the development of practices that will ensure sustainable systems. 10-12 Designed by the College Board to parallel college-level physics courses that serve as a partial foundation for science or engineering majors, AP Physics C primarily focuses on 1) mechanics and 2) electricity and magnetism, with approximately equal emphasis on these two areas. Through inquiry-based learning, students will develop scientific critical thinking and reasoning skills. 10-12 Following the College Board s suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level macroeconomics, AP Macroeconomics provides students with a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole. The course generally covers the constitutional underpinnings of the U.S. government, political beliefs and behaviors, political parties and interest groups, the institutions and policy process of national government, and civil rights and liberties. 10-12 Following the College Board s suggested curriculum designed to parallel college-level European History courses, AP European History examines European civilization from the High Renaissance period to the recent past and also expose students to the factual narrative.
