Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AppleTalk is not longer supported on newer Mac Computers. However, there is still a need for printing directly to the RIP from the Page Layout application. This can be accomplished via the Socket Input to the RIP. This Guide describes how to setup Socket Inputs for ECRM RIPMate. The following is an overview of the steps for configuring Socket Input; 1. Configure your platform for Printer Sharing 2. Configure the RIP for Socket Input 3. Configuring your workstations for Socket Printing Please refer to the RIP Operator Guide in the Documentation folder on your RIP install DVD for additional information. Configuring Windows 7 & 8 for Printer Sharing 1. Your first step in this process is to make sure that you have the required Windows printing services installed. You ll need to do this from the Control Panel. a. On Windows 7, select Start Programs Settings Control Panel b. On Windows 8, click on the Control Panel icon. 2. Select Programs. 3. Select Turn Windows Features on or off. You will probably be asked for permission to continue. Click Continue. 4. Select LPD Print Service and LPR Port Monitor from the Print Services folder and then click OK. It may take some minutes for Windows to configure itself. 5. If you are running XP Pro, go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components. Select Other Network File and Print Services. Configuring your RIP for Socket Printing (Windows & Mac) 1. From your RIP, create and configure a socket input: Address 9100 is a good choice for this printer as this will be a RAW type printer and this is the default address for these devices. If you create multiple Socket inputs, you must assign a unique Address/Port Number to each one. For example: 9100, 9102, 2. Once your socket input is created, make sure it is enabled. Configuring your Windows WorkStations for Socket Printing We ll now create the Windows printer. This can be done on the computer that is running the RIP, or, on another computer. Once the Printer has been created, it can be shared and used by other workstations. 1. Open the Devices and Printers Window a. Select TaskBar>Start>Devices and Printers (Windows 7) b. Or, Start the Control Panel (Windows 7 & 8) 1. Select Hardware & Sound, View Devices and Printers 2. Then select Add a printer. Page 7 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
3. If your system starts scanning for Printers, click Stop, then select The Printer I want isn t listed, Then select Next. 4. Depending on your OS, you will get one of the following windows c. d. Windows 7, Select Add local printer, then Next. 5. Select Create a new port and pick Standard TCP/IP Port, as shown then click Next : Page 9 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
6. Select a Device Type of TCP/IP Device. Enter the Hostname or IP address of the computer that is running the RIP and pick a name for the port. Be sure to un-select the Query the printer option. Then click Next. Note: In some cases Hostname mapping has issues. If you cannot print a test page (at the end of this setup), then try setting up the printer again using the IP address. 7. Select Standard and Generic Network Card, then click Next. 8. Insert your WorkMates/RIPMate DVD and Select Have Disk... Page 11 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
9. Select Browse, and Browse to PPD & Drivers/WinXP_2003_Vista folder on the DVD. 10. Select the inf file, then select Open. Page 12 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
Then select OK. 11. Select the Recorder/Printer from the list, then select Next. If you are asked to keep the existing driver or use a new one, keep the existing driver, unless you know you need a newer driver. Page 13 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
12. Name your printer. For OS 9 compatibility, be sure to limit the name to 12 characters. Be sure to use Macintosh OS9 valid characters. Then select Next. 13. If desired, share the printer and select Next. Page 14 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
14. When prompted to print a test page, click Print a test page. Then click Finish. 15. If you get your test page in the RIP, your Harlequin RIP Windows printer via socket connection is setup and complete. Page 15 Configuring Socket Input for ECRM RIPMate AG50712-02
If you have multiple socket inputs to the RIP, you will need to assign a unique Port Address/Number to each input. In the RIP, the Port Address/Number is assigned in the Input Channel Configure dialog. In Windows, the Port Address/Number is set in the Printer Properties Dialog. Select Start, Settings, Printers. Right click on the Printer and select Properties or Printer Properties (depending on the Windows version). Click the Ports tab and click on Configure Port and enter the port number. 16. Configuring your Mac WorkStation for Socket Printing We ll now create the printer. This can be done on the computer that is running the RIP, or, on another computer. 4. For Protocol, select HP Jetdirect Socket. Then enter the Hostname or IP address of the computer running the RIP in Address:. Enter the Queue name, name the printer and select Generic PostScript Printer for Print Using:. After making the above selections click Add. If you have multiple socket inputs to the RIP, you will need to assign a unique Port Address/Number to each input. In the RIP, the Port Address/Number is assigned in the Input Channel Configure dialog. In Mac OS X, the Port Address/Number can be set in the Address: section of the above dialog. Enter IP_address:Port_Number. For example: 190.10.199.28:9100 5. You may be asked additional questions about the Printer functionality. Answer them appropriately. 6.
