Dell Recovery Manager for Exchange 5.6 April 2014 These release notes provide information about the Dell Recovery Manager for Exchange release. About New features Enhancements Resolved issues s System requirements Product licensing Getting started with About Dell About Dell Recovery Manager for Exchange rapidly and efficiently finds and recovers business-critical Exchange Server and Lotus Domino data. Organizations can reduce the cost of e-discovery in addition to providing granular, message-level data recovery services. By using Recovery Manager for Exchange, you can selectively retrieve items from online Exchange Servers, offline Exchange Server and Lotus Domino databases, and Personal Folders (.pst) files. The retrieved items can then be directly restored to a production Exchange Server or to.pst,.eml,.msg, or.txt files. Recovery Manager for Exchange provides a search system to perform context-based searches in live Exchange Server mailboxes and public folders, offline Exchange Server and Lotus Domino databases, and Personal Folders (.pst) files using keywords and other search criteria. Rather than retrieving all data from a server, database, or file, you can retrieve only what is needed. Recovery Manager for Exchange entirely eliminates the need for a recovery Exchange Server, making it easier for you to gain access to an offline Exchange Server database. You can restore an Exchange Server database from backup to any folder, and then access the database to search and selectively restore the data you need. Recovery Manager for Exchange integrates with another Dell product Archive Manager, allowing you to quickly and easily export messages from Exchange Server databases, Lotus Domino databases, and Personal Folders (.pst) files into Archive Manager. is a minor release, with enhanced features and functionality. See New features and Enhancements. 1

New features New features in : Rebranded to Dell. This product was rebranded as Dell Recovery Manager for Exchange. Support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. You can install and use this release on computers running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013. Recovery Manager for Exchange requires Microsoft Outlook, and this new feature allows you to install and use this release on computers that have 64-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013 installed. For detailed instructions on how to install and configure Microsoft Outlook for working with Recovery Manager for Exchange, see the User Guide supplied with this release. Restore a mailbox along with all or only specific messages. Now when restoring a mailbox, you can choose whether you want to restore the mailbox with all its contents or only specific messages. In case with the second option, you can configure criteria for the messages you want restored along with the mailbox. Messages not meeting your criteria are not included in the restored mailbox. If no messages in the selected source mailbox meet your criteria, the restored mailbox will be empty. Integration with Dell AppAssure. This release can integrate with AppAssure to extract and register Exchange Server databases from backups created with AppAssure and stored on the AppAssure backup server. Support for additional backup software versions. Now Recovery Manager for Exchange can integrate with additional backup software versions. For a complete list of supported backup software you can use in conjunction with this release, see Upgrade and compatibility. Enhancements Resolved issues Enhancements The following is a list of enhancements implemented in. Table 1. General enhancements Enhancement When restoring multiple mailboxes with Recovery Manager for Exchange, now you can choose to merge the data from these mailboxes and their folder hierarchy into a single target storage (for example, a mailbox or.pst file.) 69674 Recovery Manager for Exchange now supports the 64-bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2010. 125270 Recovery Manager for Exchange now supports connecting to an Archive Manager server over 209984 HTTPS. Now you can get rid of unnecessary credential prompts in Recovery Manager for Exchange by 229458 using an option to securely store access credentials for online Exchange Servers in Windows Credential Manager. When registering an Archive Manager instance as a storage, you can now choose which mailboxes will be available in the storage upon its registration. You can choose one of the following options: Mailboxes that are explicitly assigned to the account you use to access the instance. All mailboxes present in the Archive Manager instance. This option requires the access account to have the Search all e-mails permission in the Archive Manager instance. 231387 Recovery Manager for Exchange now supports the 64-bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2013. 233614 A new report that provides information about messages deleted using the Delete Message Wizard 237734 is now available in Recovery Manager for Exchange. 2

Table 1. General enhancements Enhancement Now you can speed up search and restore operations by configuring Recovery Manager for Exchange not to collect data for reports. Resolved issues The following is a list of issues addressed in this release. General resolved issues Automated tasks resolved issues Web Interface resolved issues Documentation resolved issues Table 2. General resolved issues Resolved issue Recovery Manager for Exchange may fail to start, returning the message An error occurred while connecting to the storages database using the connection string <connection string>. Details: Login failed for user. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. In the Message Restore Wizard and the Mailbox Restore Wizard, the Select AD Backup page erroneously provides backup creation times in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). In fact, this page should use local time. Unexpected behavior when Recovery Manager for Exchange and Exchange Server are installed on the same computer: After your attempt to start Exchange Server emulation, Recovery Manager for Exchange may fail to display a warning message stating that Exchange Server emulation is not supported for the mentioned configuration. You may encounter the following problem on the Select AD Backup page of the Mailbox Restore Wizard: Some or all values in the Backup Age column may appear to be incorrect. The reason for this is that the Backup Age column sometimes provides values for the GMT 00:00 (UTC 00:00) time zone instead of your local time zone. You may encounter the following problem when viewing a list of cataloged backups in the Backup Catalog Manager or in the Add Storage Wizard: Some or all values in the Backup Date column of the list may appear to be incorrect. The reason for this is that Backup Date column sometimes provides dates and times for the GMT 00:00 (UTC 00:00) time zone instead of your local time zone. Unexpected behavior of the New Search button in the Find View and Find dialog box: Clicking this button clears the Search in field value in the current search. You may receive the following error message when upgrading Recovery Manager for Exchange by using the Express setup type in the Setup Wizard: Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server. Login failed for user 'sa'. This issue only occurs if the Recovery Manager for Exchange version from which you attempt to upgrade uses the SQL Server authentication method to access the SQL Server that hosts the Recovery Manager for Exchange database. Unexpected result when you use Microsoft Outlook to view the Personal Folders (.pst) file or online Exchange mailbox to which you have restored data from a mailbox held in Quest Archive Manager: the file or mailbox may not contain the data you have restored. This issue only occurs when Recovery Manager for Exchange is configured to show, search, and restore system folders. Your attempt to start Recovery Manager for Exchange may fail with the error The specified schema name <Name> either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it. This issue only occurs when all of the following is true: Recovery Manager for Exchange is configured to use an external preinstalled instance of Microsoft SQL Server. You grant the required access permissions for the SQL Server instance not to an individual user account but to the Windows security group that includes the user account under which you want Recovery Manager for Exchange to access the SQL Server instance. 4802 57885 104950 127578 132439 156036 162691 184537 187106 4

Table 2. General resolved issues Resolved issue Unexpected behavior when you attempt to restore messages from a storage based on an Archive Manager instance: Recovery Manager for Exchange may not restore items located in the mailbox root. Your attempt to preview or save an attachment in the Recovery Manager Console may fail with the error Unspecified error. This issue only occurs if the attachment name includes non- English characters. Unexpected behavior when you use the Find View or Find dialog box in the Advanced Mode: When you use Is (Exactly) search condition to search for messages by Internet message IDs, your search may return no results, although the storage you search includes items that meet your search criteria. When the Find View is in the Advanced Mode, there is no way for you to import keywords from a file into your search query. The Recovery Manager Console fails to display the number of mailboxes in source or target storages. The expected behavior is that when you select the Source Storages or Target Storages node in the left pane of the Recovery Manager Console, the right pane should display the number of mailboxes next to each registered source or target storage. The Recovery Manager Console does not support copy and paste operations from source to target storages by using the CTRL+C and CTRL+V key combinations. When you search for messages in Archive Manager by using the Sent from text box in the Find View or Find dialog box, your search may return no or incomplete results, although messages that meet your search criteria do exist in Archive Manager. This issue occurs if in the Sent from text box you type only a fragment of the keyword you want to find (for example, you type admin instead of administrator). You may experience excessive memory consumption by the Rme.exe process when in the Recovery Manager Console you open a storage that contains a large (10000+) amount of mailboxes. Also, you may experience the Out of memory error when opening storages with 30000+ mailboxes. Search for online mailboxes you run in the Add Storage Wizard may never complete. This issue occurs when on the Add Mailboxes page you click the Add button to search for online mailboxes hosted in Exchange Online (Office 365) by Country or Account Status field. When you use Exchange emulation to register a backed up Exchange Server database from Tivoli Storage Manager Server, the source online database located on production Exchange Server may be unexpectedly dismounted. Your attempt to register a database from a NetWorker backup by using Exchange emulation may have the following unexpected result: The database restore completes successfully in NetWorker, but no storages are registered in Recovery Manager for Exchange. This issue only occurs if NetWorker has Module for Microsoft Applications 2.3 installed. You may encounter the following error message when trying to preview or restore items from a Lotus Domino database (.nsf file): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. When you use Recovery Manager for Exchange to access an online mailbox hosted on Exchange Server 2003, you may encounter the error Undefined MAPI error. This issue shows up when the Recovery Manager for Exchange computer is joined to a domain different from the one in which the target Exchange Server 2003 resides. You may encounter the following error message when trying to preview or restore items from a Lotus Domino database (.nsf file): Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Unexpected behavior when you restore Exchange Server mailboxes to Archive Manager that already includes copies of those mailboxes: New instances of the mailboxes are created in Archive Manager. The expected behavior in the described scenario is that no new mailboxes should be created in Archive Manager. Rather, the existing mailboxes in Archive Manager should be updated with data from the mailboxes being restored. 217193 220387 231654 243869 260044 262842 267527 282823 284469 287513 288017 288176 298591 301911 305507, 306675 5

Table 2. General resolved issues Resolved issue Your attempt to restore data from a backup created with EMC NetWorker may fail with the error Value cannot be null. Parameter name: serversettings. This issue only occurs when you use NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.4.1. Your attempt to register a database by using direct access to NetWorker Server (Connect to backup server option in the Add Storage Wizard) may fail with an error similar to the following: The server threw an Exception. (Exception from HRESULT. 0x8000101, (RPC_E_SERVERVAULT). Your attempt to register an Exchange Server 2013 database by using the Access Exchange backups with third-party software option in the Add Storage Wizard may fail with the error Error JET_errPrimaryIndexCorrupted, Primary index is corrupt. The database must be defragmented or the table deleted. This only occurs if the Windows version on the Recovery Manager for Exchange computer is different from that on the source Exchange Server. Unexpected result when you retrieve mailboxes from Microsoft Office 365 to register as storages: The number of mailboxes retrieved may be different from the actual number of mailboxes in the Office 365 organization. You may encounter this issue when using the Add Storage Wizard or the Attach- RMEExchangeOnline cmdlet supplied with the Recovery Manager for Exchange Management Shell. Your attempt to register an Exchange Server database from a backup created with NetBackup 6.0 by using Exchange emulation may fail with the error Unable to restore some Microsoft Exchange components because one or more of the databases are currently mounted. SQL Server databases in which Recovery Manager for Exchange stores its data may unexpectedly go offline and then back online every 5 minutes or so. The reason behind this behavior is that the databases have the auto_close option set to ON. Your attempt to open a storage based on an online mailbox hosted on Exchange Server 2013 may fail with the error Server Unavailable, although the Exchange Server is actually online and working properly. This issue occurs if the SSL certificate for the Exchange Server does not include the FQDN of the Client Access Front-End (CAFE) server. Unexpected behavior when Recovery Manager for Exchange is configured to not restore duplicates and you restore a folder with its subfolders: The restored subfolders may still include duplicated messages. This behavior only affects restores from an offline Exchange Server 2013 database to a.pst file or online Exchange Server. Your attempt to upgrade Recovery Manager for Exchange may fail with an error similar to the following: SQL error (2147217900) - failed to execute sql string, error detail: there is already an object named 'offlinemailboxstores' in the database. Your attempt to restore more than 2 GB of data to a new Personal Folders (.pst) file may fail because by default Recovery Manager for Exchange creates an ANSI.pst file whose storage capacity is limited to 2 GB. The expected default behavior is that Recovery Manager for Exchange should create a Unicode.pst file with more storage capacity. The following error may show up when you attempt to open a storage based on an online Exchange Server mailbox: No matching entries were found. 307553 308046 308947 309634, 309742 312268 313329 320593 324268 325990 328389 337111, 338435 The Recovery Manager Console may stop responding when you run a search in the Find View. 340337 Your attempt to register an offline Exchange Server 2013 database as a storage may fail with the 340549 error Exception occurred. When you work with an offline Exchange Server 2013 database (for example, attempt to register 340572 it as a storage or open a storage based on such a database), you may encounter the error Cannot open any more tables. This issue occurs if the database contains a large (300+) number of mailboxes. Search in attachments may take a significant time to complete if you use wildcards in your search criteria. 346602 6

Table 3. Automated tasks resolved issues Resolved issue Your attempt to run an automated task that restores data from a mailbox hosted on Exchange Server 2010 may fail with the error Undefined MAPI error. This issue only occurs if Exchange Server 2010 does not have Mailbox and Client Access server roles installed. A scheduled automated task may unexpectedly run under the Task Scheduler service account, although the task is configured to run under a different account. When you edit an existing automated task that restores messages from online mailboxes, you may note the following issue on the Add Mailboxes page of the Task Wizard: Some mailboxes in the Added mailboxes list may be duplicated. 329597 329945 339732 Table 4. Web Interface resolved issues Resolved issue Your attempt to install the Web Interface feature of Recovery Manager for Exchange may fail with the error The user name or password is incorrect. This issue occurs when you run the Setup program under the built-in Administrator account. When using the Message Restore Wizard in the Recovery Manager for Exchange Web Interface, at the Add Messages to Restore step, you may encounter an error message starting with the line [Arg_TargetInvocationException]. Non-informative error Arg_TargetInvocationException may display in the Recovery Manager for Exchange Web Interface while you are trying to restore messages. While browsing storages in the Web Interface, you may encounter the error Cannot open database <DatabaseName> requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user <Username>. This issue only occurs if the application pool identity specified during the Web Interface installation is different from the account under which Recovery Manager for Exchange was installed. 222897 320403 320772 331782 Table 5. Documentation resolved issues Resolved issue The documentation fails to properly state that your search may not work as expected when in your search query you combine the tilde (~) search operator with one or more wildcard characters, such as an asterisk (*) or question mark (?). This is applicable to the Find View and Find dialog box. An issue in the User Guide: In some cases, the instructions on working with third-party backup software fail to mention that in Exchange emulation parameters you must specify exactly the same storage group names as those stored in the backup you want to work with. The User Guide provides incorrect instructions on how to extract data from snapshot backups created by IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. The User Guide fails to provide any instructions on restoring public folder databases from backups created with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. The fail to clearly state that Exchange emulation is not supported for Exchange Server 5.5. 218905 256941 283704 289010 315584 7

s The following is a list of issues, including those attributed to third-party products, known to exist at the time of release. General known issues Automated tasks known issues Management Shell known issues Web Interface known issues Third-party known issues Table 6. General known issues When you use the Add Storage Wizard to register a.pst file, the registration operation may fail with the error Format of the following file is not supported: '<full path to.pst file>'. This problem occurs if the.pst file you are trying to register is password-protected. The expected behavior is that while the registration operation is in progress, the Add Storage Wizard should prompt you to type a password for the password-protected.pst file. 1 Use Outlook to open the password-protected.pst file you want to register. 2 Type the password for the.pst file when prompted by Outlook. 3 Keep the file open in Outlook. 4 Use the Add Storage Wizard to register the.pst file as a storage. For more information, see the User Guide supplied with this release of Recovery Manager for Exchange. Renaming the Recovery Manager for Exchange computer may result in Recovery Manager for Exchange being unable to connect to its database on SQL Server. CAUTION: The next steps involve making changes to the system registry. Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on the computer. 1 Locate the ConnectionString registry value in each of the following sub-keys of the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Quest Software\Recovery Manager for Exchange registry key: - Backup Catalog - EDB Information - Storages 2 In each of these three sub-keys, modify the ConnectionString value data to replace the old name of the Recovery Manager for Exchange computer with the current name of the computer. 3322 4646 8

Table 6. General known issues Registration of Exchange Server database extracted from backup may fail with the following error: Unable to initialize Jet engine and retrieve information about <path to.edb file>: No such database (Source: ExchDB.ExchDB.1 ). This problem occurs in a situation where the full path to the extracted Exchange Server database includes non-english characters. 1 1 Take note of the path to the extracted Exchange Server database. This is the same path as the path to.edb file provided in the error message quoted in the description of this problem. 2 Create a new folder on the root of the local drive where Recovery Manager for Exchange is installed and move the extracted Exchange Server database to that folder. 3 Make sure the full path to the Exchange Server database does not include any non-english characters. 4 Start the Add Storage Wizard and register the offline.edb file from the folder to where you moved the extracted Exchange Server database. For more information, see the User Guide supplied with this release of Recovery Manager for Exchange. 2 1 Extract the Exchange Server database from the backup with the backup software that was used to create that backup. 2 Make sure the full path to the extracted Exchange Server database does not include any non-english characters. 3 Start the Add Storage Wizard and register the offline.edb file from the folder to where the Exchange Server database was extracted. For more information, see the User Guide supplied with this release of Recovery Manager for Exchange. When restoring a folder whose name includes a backslash, for example, One\Two, you may get the following unexpected result: In the target storage, the folder One\Two being restored appears as a folder named One with a subfolder named Two. Manually change the folder structure in the target container as appropriate. After you have deleted a registered source storage based on an Exchange Server database from the Recovery Manager for Exchange console tree, you may get the following unexpected result: The log and patch files belonging to the database still remain in the location to where the database was extracted from backup during the registration operation. To delete a source storage with all its associated Exchange Server database files: 1 Before you proceed with the delete operation, right-click the source storage you want to delete in the console tree, and select Properties. 2 In the dialog box that opens, take note of the Path field value. This is where the database files were extracted at the time of the database registration. By default, the path is <Disk>:\Recovery Manager Sources\<DatabaseLocation> where <DatabaseLocation> is the folder holding the associated Exchange files for the source storage you want to delete. 3 Delete the source storage from the console tree. 4 Manually delete the folder represented as <DatabaseLocation> in step 2 of this procedure. Your attempt to register an Exchange Server database from a recovery storage group (RSG) may fail with the following error message that incorrectly describes the problem: Cannot access the file <FileName> because it is being used by another process. In fact, this error message indicates that the database you attempt to register from RSG is currently mounted. Manually dismount and then register the database. 7963 37861 40735 49340 9

Table 6. General known issues Your attempt to export messages to the.eml,.msg, or txt format may permanently fail with the following error message that fails to describe the problem correctly: Illegal characters in path. In fact, this error message may display when the names of the source storage folders from which you export data are identical to reserved names in Windows, for example, AUX, PRN, NUL, CON, LPT1, or COM1. This problem only occurs if during the export operation you retain the original source storage folder structure. Perform the export operation without retaining the source storage folder structure. Your attempt to register Exchange Server databases from a compressed backup created with Veritas NetBackup 6.5 may fail with the following error message: Failed to process backup media: The next file media was not found in the folder '<FolderName>'. 1 Use Veritas NetBackup 6.5 to extract the Exchange Server databases from the compressed backup to a recovery storage group on a live Exchange Server. 2 Use the Add Storage Wizard to register the Exchange Server databases (.edb files) from the recovery storage group to which you extracted data in step 1. Product licensing When installing Recovery Manager for Exchange, you must specify a valid license file. To specify a license file 1 In the Setup Wizard, on the User Information page, click Licenses. 2 In the dialog box that opens, click Browse license to select a valid license file. For information about managing licenses, see the User Guide supplied with this release. The Recovery Manager for Exchange license file contains a certain number of licenses for Exchange and Domino mailboxes and Personal Folders (.pst) files. Recovery Manager for Exchange allocates licenses from the installed license file to mailboxes or.pst files when you perform any of these actions: Register an offline Exchange Server store or Lotus Domino database as a source storage, and then open that source storage in the Recovery Manager for Exchange user interface. Recovery Manager for Exchange allocates licenses to all mailboxes the store or database includes. When you register the same store or database again (from another backup, for example), the mailboxes are recounted and their total number is updated with the new number of mailboxes held in the store or database being registered. 26

A primary mailbox and its associated archive mailbox are regarded as one mailbox. Register an online Exchange mailbox as a source storage, and then open that source storage in the Recovery Manager for Exchange user interface. Recovery Manager for Exchange allocates licenses to all online mailboxes in the on-premises or cloudbased Exchange organization to which the registered mailbox belongs. A primary Exchange mailbox and its associated archive mailbox are regarded as one mailbox. Register a Personal Folders (.pst) file as a source storage, and then open that source storage in the Recovery Manager for Exchange user interface. When you have expended all licenses in the installed license file (that is, all licenses have been allocated to mailboxes or.pst files), to register new source storages you need to obtain and install a new license file holding a greater number of licenses. Note that you cannot revoke licenses allocated to mailboxes or.pst files.
