3 Guidelines The O-Lab program is designed to allow students an opportunity to earn high school credit for original credit courses and courses they have not successfully completed in the past. The program is intended to help students by delivering educational services in a flexible, time-efficient manner in order to help them succeed academically and ultimately graduate. Credit Recovery Guidelines 1. Students may earn a maximum of eight credits through the O-Lab program for their entire high school career (EHDE-Local). O-Lab can include coursework taken through Edgenuity (during the school day and/or outside of school day), Texas Virtual School Network, the University of Texas or Texas Tech University (outside of school day). 2. Students can earn up to two credits in one subject area (EHDE-Local). 3. Students may only take up to two O-Lab program courses at a time (EHDE-Local). 4. Only high school students may earn credit toward graduation. No student may use the O-Lab program for course credit until they have completed the first semester of their freshman year. Exceptions may include district-approved pilot programs. 5. Students using the O-Lab program will receive numeric grades which will be reported on their transcript. These grades will be included in their grade-point average calculation and used to compute rank in class. All course grades, passing or failing, will be included on the transcript. 6. Credit recovery students will have a prescriptive learning path based on the results of a diagnostic test. 7. The O-Lab program may impact NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/UIL eligibility. 8. Grade Calculations: Student grades are weighted and averaged according to the following categories: Notes Assignments/Labs Quizzes Tests Exam 9. If the student is using the O-Lab program as a REMOTE user, the student must achieve a 65% on the Final exam in order to receive credit for the course. If the student achieves
4 the 65%, the coursework will count for 85% and the Final Exam will still count for 15% of the grade. 10. If the student is a combination school setting/remote user or completes all parts of the O- Lab program course in a school setting, then the revised procedures for the Final Exam will be implemented. Students should follow campus sign-in procedures to document participation in the school setting. o The student will NOT have to achieve a 65% on the FINAL EXAM. The scores will be entered in the spreadsheet and the coursework will count for 85% and the Final Exam will count for 15%. The spreadsheet will calculate the percentage for you. 11. Final Exams must be taken on site and proctored by a teacher. 12. Notes will NOT be allowed on the Final Exam. Notes may be used only on the Assignments and Quizzes. 13. Students who fail a course in the O-Lab program may retake the course again in the next school term. Each time a course grade is earned, it will be included on the student s transcript. 14. Students may not begin credit recovery in the same semester as a course in which they are currently enrolled. For example, a student may not use this program to gain credit for the first semester of Algebra I if they are currently enrolled in the first semester of Algebra I. They must complete an entire semester in the classroom before using this program to recover credit. 15. Seniors utilizing O-Lab for credit recovery in the spring semester must complete the course by May 15 in order to graduate with their class. No enrollment of students after April 1 for O- Lab courses will be allowed. 16. Excluding seniors, all credit recovery students must complete each semester of a course by nine weeks from the enrollment date. 17. Students may access the O-Lab program from home. 18. Student must achieve a score of 70% or above in order to proceed to the next lesson. If a student fails a quiz, that student will automatically be looped back a limited number of times to retake the lesson and quiz. 19. Students should observe the start and end date scheduled at the time of application for the O- Lab program coursework. Completion of coursework and final exam before the scheduled end date is acceptable provided the student has successfully completed a course learning path. Original Credit Guidelines 1. Original credit students must complete their entire Learning Path/course. 2. Criteria for Original Credit
