Matching card game activity Worksheet for teachers Use these cards as a matching game They can be used in a variety of ways but you could: Put the pupils into small groups and give them both the word cards and the meaning cards. Ask the group to make sure each pupil has at least 2 of the meaning cards each, and place the word cards out on the table for everyone to see. Each pupil then takes it in turns to read their meaning word out to the rest of the group. The group then decides which meaning matches which word, and pairs them up. Get the groups to swap round to look at each other s results and then discuss the correct answers with the full class. Play a group game of hangman the pupils work out the word first, then try and find its description. You could use this opportunity to discuss your university experience.

This is where a small group of students meet with a lecturer to discuss the research they have been doing or ideas they have about a subject. A presentation given by a lecturer in a big room called a lecture theatre. Students listen, make notes and receive handouts. These are clubs where students with similar interests can share their beliefs, hobbies or play sport together. This is someone who is studying for a first degree. This is a senior member of university staff, who has become a professor because of their specialised research and teaching. All the buildings and surrounding area of a university is called this. This is a piece of written work, usually around 2000 words, where students show that they have done some research and are therefore able to write about what they have found out. The marks for this work goes towards their degree. First year students are often called this, and the first week at university is called Fresher s week. During this week there are lots of activities that help students make friends and find out about university life. This is what you do when you have finished and passed your course. The ceremony you attend to get your degree certificate is called a Graduation Ceremony This is what an undergraduate will get once they have passed all their exams. They get a certificate to show what subject they have studied and how well they did.
