FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES Long Term Career The Trainperson position can be the start of a long and prosperous career with CP. Employees working as Trainpersons can continue on in many different directions. Trainpersons usually continue on to become Locomotive Engineers, however can also progress their careers into other unionized roles such as Rail Traffic Controllers or Class Yard Coordinators, or into supervisory and management roles. 8

HIRING PROCESS: STAGE 1 Trainperson Information Review You have completed the online application and have been selected to proceed to the next stage of the hiring process You are required to view the following: Trainperson presentation Trainperson FAQS Day in the Life of a Trainperson video 10
HIRING PROCESS STAGE 2 Aptitude Assessments The Aptitude Assessments have been developed by a company called AW Fraser, an Industrial Psychologist company Your results will be compared to an established profile of successful Trainperson and Locomotive Engineer to gauge your suitability to the role A series of questions will take approximately 2 hours to complete No railway knowledge or experience is required to complete the questionnaires 11
HIRING PROCESS STAGE 3 Personal Interview Interviews will be behavioural-based and will take place in the location for which you are being considered. During the interview you should respond to the questions using the following SHARE model Set the Stage (describe the situation where you used the skill in detailnames of company, dates, etc. are useful) Hindrances (note any problems that arose or obstacles you had to overcome) Actions (describe the actions you took to combat the hindrances) Results (what was the result of the situation- did your actions help or hinder) Evaluation (what did you learn, i.e. would you use the same actions again) 12
HIRING PROCESS: STAGE 4 Clearances If you are selected to move to the next stage of the hiring process for the position of Trainperson after your interview, CP will have to complete the following clearances: Security Clearance Reference Check Education Verification You must bring these completed forms to your interview as well as a copy of two pieces of ID. You must successfully pass all of the above checks in order to be hired for this position. If you do not pass all of the checks you will be advised by CP and removed from the hiring process. 13
HIRING PROCESS: STAGE 5 Medical and Drug Screening In accordance with Government regulations, you must be assessed as medically fit in the following areas to be hired for this position: Vision and color perception Hearing Medical examination Drug Screening The medical will be scheduled with one of our approved doctors. The cost is covered by CP Any additional medical information that may be required is the candidates expense 14
HIRING PROCESS Overview It will take approximately 2 weeks to receive the results of your medical and other clearances. If there are any issues with your medical or the clearances you will be contacted immediately. CP strives to provide candidates with two weeks notice prior to the start of training. 15
PRE-QUALIFYING CANDIDATES In addition to the candidates selected to be part of the training class, a number of candidates will be pre-qualified as alternates for this class and future classes. These candidates will be progressed through the hiring process so that they can fill the position of any candidate who does not successfully complete the hiring process. Your application will be active for 12 months and you will not be required to apply online again for the Trainperson position in the location for which you are being considered. 16
