How can we revolutionize the online banking sector in Europe? We are online and entered Live Operations! Since 1 June 2014: Cross-Border Trial Phase Since 3 June 2015: An Austrian Raiffeisen Bank Group, which is dedicated to cross-border business, is piloting our application and is issuing real accounts to new costumers! Challenges and Lessons Learned Policymakers and Legal Authorities: National financial authorities need to be convinced to open the market for the (cross-border) use of eids This has been achieved in some countries already more to come (hopefully)! The acceptance of foreign eids in the private sector should to be regulated (preferably based on eidas) Stakeholders, e.g. Banks: It takes time to introduce (conventional) banks into the world of eids and to convince them of the tremendous advantage eids can bring to them today (i.e. reduction of costs, new customers, new markets, etc.) Banks have to be convinced that eids and esignatures are available and ready to be used in Europe.
Future Perspective There is still a way to go! using early adopters as motivating example providing long-term strategy for foreign eid recognition explaining the advantages of using electronic attributes over other methods raising awareness of policy makers like financial regulators providing guidance to policy makers, like national financial regulators, on how to accept (foreign) eid s as a tool for lawful customer identification creating guidelines, recommendations, etc., preferably based on the eidas regulation, for cross-border acceptance of eids in the private sector drawing lessons learned from initiatives like STORK and from the experience of the public administration
Conclusion Thanks to the progress in Europe (eidas), based on initiatives like STORK and thanks to the upcoming commercial solutions providers: Now it is the time to unite the online market for banks in Europe!
