This warranty does not apply to software obtained by download or other electronic means, nor does it apply to APC software which is distributed as a component of products manufactured by other vendors. In the event of notification within the warranty period of defects in material or workmanship, APC will replace the defective media or material. If you need to return a product call the APC customer service department to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. The remedy for breach of this warranty shall be limited to replacement and shall not encompass any other damages, including but not limited to loss of profit, and special, incidental, consequential or other similar claims. APC specifically disclaims all other warranties, expressed or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the software, media, documentation, and cables. : APC PowerXtend for Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) for Windows NT Version 3.1.0 of APC PowerXtend for CIM for Windows NT allows you to use Compaq Insight Management Agents and a web browser to monitor APC UPS systems. After installation, you can link directly from Compaq Insight Management Agents to APC PowerChute Web Device Manager to perform the UPS monitoring. Software Requirements To install and use APC PowerXtend for CIM, you must have the following software already installed. Type of UPS Monitoring to Be Performed Web-based or SNMP-based monitoring Web-based monitoring Software Required Windows NT, version 4.0 PowerChute plus, version 5.0.1 or 5.1, for Windows NT Compaq Insight Manager 1 Compaq Insight Management Agents 1 A version of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer compatible with the version of Compaq Insight Management Agents that you are using. See the Compaq documentation for those agents for more information APC PowerChute Web Device Manager Location Where the Software Must Be Installed The server from which you will perform the monitoring Any server or workstation whose UPS you will monitor. The server from which you will perform the monitoring A server somewhere on the network. 1 You must use one of the following versions: Version 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2b, or 4.21, which have been tested for compatibility with this product by APC Later versions, as they are released by Compaq and tested by APC for compatibility with this product. For information on compatibility with later versions, contact APC Technical Support as listed on the APC web site, http://www.apcc.com Note: Version 3.1.0 of APC PowerXtend for CIM will overwrite any earlier version of APC CIM support. If you selected CIM support as a component to install during the installation of PowerChute plus, there is no need to uninstall that component before you install APC PowerXtend for CIM. 1
: APC PowerXtend for Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) for Windows NT Installation Procedure Installation Procedure To install APC PowerXtend for CIM, perform the following steps: 1. Install any software products that are required by APC PowerXtend for CIM but that are not already installed. See Software Requirements. PowerChute plus and PowerChute Web Device Manager are both available from APC s web site at http://www.apcc.com. 2. Download the executable installation program for APC PowerXtend for CIM from APC s web site. 3. Launch setupex.exe to begin the installation. 4. If you agree with the terms of the license agreement, click Yes in the Software License Agreement dialog box. 5. If the installation program finds the web-enabled Compaq Insight Management Agents installed on the server, it displays the following dialog box: Click Yes to install APC s web-based UPS monitoring capability using CIM. (If you click No, the installation program installs SNMP-based APC CIM Support.) 6. If you clicked Yes in Step 5, the Enter APC Software Location dialog box prompts you for the location where PowerChute Web Device Manager is installed on the network. The default is the current server. If PowerChute Web Device Manager is installed on a different server, enter the name or IP address of that server instead, and click Next>. 2

The installation program can verify the location you specified in Step 6 only if PowerChute Web Device Manager is currently running. If the installation program cannot detect PowerChute Web Device Manager at the specified location, the Locate APC Web Software dialog box appears. Choose one of the following options: - Click Choose a different location to specify another location where PowerChute Web Device Manager is installed on the network, or to correct the location you previously specified. - Click Use the location specified above anyway to confirm that the location you specified is correct but that PowerChute Web Device Manager is not running. - Click Continue without installing web support to install the SNMP-based APC CIM Support. If you select this option, you will not be able to perform web-based UPS monitoring. 3
: APC PowerXtend for Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) for Windows NT How to Verify a Successful Installation for Web-Based UPS Monitoring 8. If, in Step 7, you chose to specify a different location for PowerChute Web Device Manager, the Enter APC Web Software URL dialog box appears, with the URL for the previously specified location displayed for you to edit. Edit the displayed URL or enter a new one, in the following format: //server_name:port_number/url_prefix/index.htm 9. Click Next>. If you entered a valid URL in Step 8, the installation program installs the necessary files and creates the required links, completing the installation. If you entered an invalid URL, the installation program re-displays the Enter APC Software Location dialog box. Begin at Step 7 to select a location again for PowerChute Web Device Manager or to install only SNMPbased UPS monitoring capability instead. 10. When the installation is complete, reboot the server. How to Verify a Successful Installation for Web-Based UPS Monitoring After you install PowerXtend for CIM for Windows NT for web-based monitoring and you reboot the server, then test the basic functions of the product as described in this section. From a supported web browser, open the server s Compaq Insight Management Agents home page: http://servername:2301 For example, if you installed APC PowerXtend for CIM on the server NETCOMP, you would specify the following: http://netcomp:2301 The home page of the Compaq Insight Management Agents displays the link APC UPS in the Recovery list in the lower left panel. Click on APC UPS to launch PowerChute Web Device Manager in a new browser window. That window contains UPS information for the server you designated during the installation as the location of PowerChute 4

See the documentation you received with PowerChute Web Device Manager for information on how to monitor other servers and to select options for monitoring. The viewing panel of the Compaq Insight Management Agents displays the APC Logo and the link APC Corporate Web Site. Click on that link to go to the home page of APC s corporate web site, http://www.apcc.com The following example shows the Compaq Insight Management Agents browser window in the background and PowerChute Web Device Manager launched in its own browser window in the foreground.
