Used with optional software measurement suites 3070A provides fast and high performance signal analysis. The 3070A module converts RF input signals over the frequency range 250 MHz to 6 GHz into phase and amplitude compensated digital I & Q sample data with an instantaneous signal bandwidth of up to 160 MHz and a sample memory depth of 2 GBytes (0.5 GSamples). The sample data is output for processing to the PC host via the PXI backplane. For the very latest specifications visit www.aeroflex.com

Advanced Synthesizer Technology Internal frequency down conversion utilizes an advanced integrated low noise and highly agile multi-loop RF synthesizer achieving SSB phase noise of better than 127 dbc/hz at 20 khz offset from 1 GHz with frequency switching in under 150 μs making 3070A ideal for applications such as phase noise testing of narrow band transmitters and RF component testing. Level Range With a maximum input level of +30 dbm and a noise floor of -160 dbm/hz, 3070A is ideal for performing measurements of both large and small signal properties of RF transmitters. Input level control uses high speed electronic attenuator switching with a resolution of 1 db over a range 51 db to achieve optimal input conditions to the RF down converter and ADC as necessary for the measurement of interest. Noise and linearity optimized modes are provided to configure the module for specific measurement types. Fast and Level Settling Using 3070A List Mode, frequency settling to within 0.1 ppm and level settling to within 0.1 db is achieved in under 150 μs. List mode allows up to 64k different frequency settings to be pre-calculated and stored in on-board memory for fast access based on either software or hardware triggers. High Dynamic Range The 3070A is designed to deliver high dynamic range to satisfy the most demanding of measurements such as spectral emissions or burst power profile of TDD transmitters. Spectral emissions measurements of broadband systems provide a challenge to measurement systems. Using 3070A, ACLR measurement with a dynamic range of >65 db is achieved for 3G WCDMA UE devices. By utilizing the wide bandwidth of the 3070A RF digitizer, spectral mask measurement can be performed without need for spectral stitching. Residual EVM With a low residual EVM of better than 0.3% 3070A is able to accurately measure the modulation distortion performance of RF components and transmitters used for wideband communication such as IEEE 802.11ac. Low residual EVM is achieved by virtue of low phase noise and excellent IF amplitude and phase flatness in 3070A. Wide Bandwidth With an instantaneous -1 db bandwidth of up to 80 MHz or 160 MHz (option 05 enabled) 3070A is capable of supporting broadband wireless technologies such as 802.11ac and LTE advanced. Amplitude flatness of better than ±0.25 db is maintained across >67 MHz and ±0.5 db across >100 MHz (with option 05 fitted). Figure 1. PXI Studio2 analysis of WLAN 802.11ac MCS9 (160 MHz, 256 QAM) Local Oscillator I/O The provision of local oscillator input and output allows the 3070A to be the master oscillator in a chain of similar devices or slaved to an external LO source to provide phase coherent down conversion for use in MIMO or phased array antenna test applications. Flexible Hardware Triggering Hardware triggering is supported from across the PXI backplane or through the front panel. Hardware triggers can be used trigger acquisition directly or arm triggering from other sources such as counters. Trigger inputs can be used with list mode to step through different hardware settings. SOFTWARE Module Driver A VXI PnP low level driver is supplied with C.dll, and.net programming interfaces for user application development. Applications PXI Studio2 is a Windows TM application that provides a framework for virtual instrument plug-ins with a graphical user interface to control 3070A as a standalone instrument or as part of a larger configuration of Aeroflex PXI 3000 Series RF modules. The RF Digitizer plug-in provides time domain, frequency domain and I vs. Q graphical displays of captured I & Q data. Personalities 3070A standard and optional measurement suites support analysis of specific communications systems or generic modulation types and spectral analysis. Each optional measurement suite includes a C style DLL and.net programming interface and a graphical user interface plug-in for use in PXI Studio2. General purpose FFT Spectrum analysis software is provided as standard. This software processes captured I & Q sample data and plots results in spectrum and time domains. The library also provides measurement results for band power, adjacent channel power and occupied bandwidth.

Optional measurement software supports various radio communication standards. 3070 option 103, WLAN 802.11a,b,g,n measurement suite and option 113, WLAN 802.11ac measurement suite provide a library of functions for characterizing the performance of WLAN signals in accordance with each of the respective IEEE standard requirements including support for SISO and MIMO and for 802.11ac VHT specific support is provided for 80 MHz, 80+80 MHz and 160 MHz. 3070 option 106, Bluetooth measurement suite provides a library of function to characterise Bluetooth BR, EDR and LE transceivers. Option 203 Connectivity Test Sequencing renders 3070A compatible for use with PXI Maestro for testing wireless connectivity devices in automated systems. For a full description of optional measurement suite functionality and performance see the latest PXI Studio2 data sheet.
