Rick Esenberg President and General Counsel [MAILDATE] [MAILNAME] [ADDRESS1] [ADDRESS2] [CITY], [STATE] [ZIP] Dear [SALUTATION]: Even the strongest offense needs a good defense. That s true for any sport, and for matters with higher stakes as well. In the last few years, Wisconsin has made some truly incredible progress: groundbreaking changes that are worth defending with everything we ve got. We all know how much these reforms have infuriated the radical liberals in Madison and across the country and how desperate they are to stand in the way. Their weapon of choice? The courts. They sued to stop voter ID. They sued to stop Act 10. They sued to stop regulatory reform. They just sued to stop the voters will to have the Supreme Court choose its own leader. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty was founded in 2011 for exactly this type of battle. We re a conservative legal advocacy group that believes in, and defends, the Constitution and the rule of law: in both the legal courts, and in the court of public opinion. We ve dedicated ourselves to protecting and promoting Wisconsin s reforms, and fighting liberal injustice wherever we find it. Today, we need your help to do it! WILL is a tax-exempt nonprofit, and we operate thanks to the incredible generosity of likeminded individuals, independent donors, and a number of conservative foundations, including the Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee. We ve been a major voice in some of Wisconsin s most important battles, including Act 10, Photo ID, School Choice, the John Doe witch hunt, the Milwaukee streetcar boondoggle, and Obamacare. And that s just the start we ve got more do-or-die battles on the horizon as well. Our voice is only as strong as the supporters behind us! [SALUTATION], help us defend Scott Walker s reforms and the conservative movement in Wisconsin. Please support the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty with a tax-deductible gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or $50 right away to invest in our mission we need you! One of the most critical battles in Wisconsin today is the defense of educational freedom. As important as education is to Wisconsin s future, school choice has flown below the radar in recent years. But that makes it no less important. Milwaukee s Parental Choice Program has allowed thousands of families to escape failing schools and has given a fresh opportunity to thousands of students, often in low-income neighborhoods, with no other options. (Over, please) 1139 East Knapp Street Milwaukee, WI 53202 www.will-law.org
But that won t stop the liberals including Barack Obama s administration from fighting tooth-and-nail against school choice. Here s how we re fighting back! *** WILL exposed the Milwaukee Public School system for operating schools at well below capacity only 50% of capacity in some cases and for leaving as many as 17 buildings vacant instead of selling them to private schools. Those 17 buildings have cost taxpayers as much as $1.6 million in utilities alone since 2012! WILL received national attention in the Wall Street Journal for our efforts. *** WILL filed suit in November to represent four children with disabilities who were prevented from using Wisconsin s Open Enrollment program. They were denied equal access to the program simply because they re disabled. *** WILL sued the Madison School Board, and the Milwaukee Area Technical College for two separate intentional violations of the landmark Act 10 law. *** WILL defended Professor John McAdams against unjust, illegal punishment from Marquette University for expressing an unpopular view and for standing up for his academic freedom. *** WILL has called the Obama/Holder Justice Department for its assault on school choice in the guise of investigating discrimination against students with disabilities. Recounting our efforts, Washington Post columnist George F. Will wrote that WILL is is defending Wisconsin children against Washington s aggression. Additionally, we ve recently added an Education Policy Director with a Ph.D. that has allowed WILL to establish itself as a credible source for information about the state s education accountability laws. This kind of research is a critical help to our conservative allies in Madison. When the Republican Assembly introduced a bill in January 2015 that would have hurt private schools in the choice program, we were the first to put out research explaining why any supporter of school choice should vote against it. Wisconsin has been at the center of the national political eye, and that s not going to change any time soon. We ve gone from a deep-blue state, led by out-of-touch liberals like Jim Doyle and Russ Feingold, to the beating-heart center of conservative reform and principled leadership. There s simply not a more effective, direct way to stand up to the liberals in the courts than by supporting the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty. We ve achieved major victories on Act 10, Photo ID, and education reform, all while fighting the liberals on their home turf. With smart, strategic support from conservatives like you, your generous tax-deductible gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or $50 can help us do even more. Sincerely, Rick Esenberg President and General Counsel P.S. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty is winning on both offense and defense. Will you be a part of it? Your generous gift of $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or $50 will help provide the resources we need to fight the most important battles in Wisconsin, even on the liberals home turf in the courts!
