System Manager Software Installation Notes Version 4.0 Service Update 2 63220-060-241B1 Retain for future use. Use this instruction sheet when you install the System Manager Software version 4.0, Service Update 2 (SMS SU2). What s New in SMS SU2? Before Installing SMS SU2 includes the following new features: A new device type, Power Meter 870, includes sag/swell alarms, disturbance waveform captures. Several enhancements have been made to the Power Meter 800 series: setup for the billing log interval is expanded, input metering/wages setup, additional standard alarms (Over kw and Over kva). BCM42 has a new 100A device type. All CM4000/3000 devices, and all PM800s (PM810 requires optional logging module): You can now set up shift energy from SMS. CM3000: Now includes input metering/wages setup. CM4000: Now includes sequence of events recording. You must have installed SMS SU1 on the SMS computer. These following minimum requirements must be met: SMS SU2 Hardware/Software Requirements Feature Processor Speed RAM Disk Space PC Monitor Resolution Operating System and Service Pack (SP) Internet Access (recommended) Minimum Requirements 733 MHz 256 MB 150 MB free space to install SMS SU2 An additional 200 MB is recommended for file storage. 800x600 Windows XP Professional, SP1 (SP2 also supported) Windows 2000 Professional, SP3 (SP4 also supported) Windows 2000 Server/2000 Advanced Server, SP3 (SP4 also supported) Windows Server 2003, Standard or Enterprise (any SP) Some internet access is recommended for downloading files and PMCU Viewing Features activation. If no internet access is available, contact your local Schneider Electric representative for assistance. Back Up the SMS Database Before you begin the SMS SU2 installation, be sure that you have backed up the SMS database (see Backing Up the Database on page 5 for directions). Use a Dedicated Local Windows Administrator Account The person who installs SMS SU2 must be logged on to the computer as a Windows Administrator on the local computer. This must be a local fullrights administrative account, not a domain account. You must create this Administrator account before you begin the SMS SU2 install. NOTE: If you are installing SMS SU2 on a computer with the Windows Server 2003 operating system, this account must also be a member of the IIS_WPG (IIS Worker Process Group). To add an administrator account to the IIS_WPG, click Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups > IIS_WPG. 2006 Schneider Electric All Rights Reserved 1
System Manager Software Installation Notes for SU2 63220-060-241B1 When the Operating System and SMS are not the Same Language If the language of your operating system does not match the language of your SMS (for example, if you install SMS English on a Spanish operating system), note the following: In order for regional settings and other setup selections to work properly, you must use the local, full-rights administrative account to set them up. Because you must log on with the local account, the computer will use the regional settings selections that were assigned by the local account. SMS will not use regional settings that were created using a domain account. Beginning the Installation NOTE: After you install SMS SU2, you may wish to install one of the following: GFX Web, v. 4.0.1 SMS DL to SE upgrade, v. 4.0.1 any optional device type (such as Sepam or Vigilohm) If you install any of these products, you must re-install SMS SU2 afterward. Follow these steps to install SMS SU2: 1. Read and follow all of the instructions in these Installation Notes. 2. If you are downloading the installation file from the PowerLogic website, do so now. The folder you will download is called SMS_V40_SU2. 3. When you download SMS SU2, create a folder on the local hard drive named, "SMS_SU2." Then, place SMS_V40_SU2.exe inside the "SMS_SU2" folder. 4. Close SMS and all other Windows applications on the SMS computer. 5. Log on to the local computer with a Windows Administrator account. Installation on an Operating System without Terminal Server or Terminal Services Installed If you are installing SMS SU2 on an operating system without Terminal Server or Terminal Services installed (typically Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional), continue with this procedure: 1. Installing via CD: Insert the SMS SU2 installation disc into the CD- ROM drive of the local computer. (If you have disabled the computer s autorun feature, you need to launch the installation manually: Click Start > Run, browse to the CD named SMS_V40_SU2, and double-click SMS_V40_SU2.exe.) Installing via Download File: Navigate to the downloaded SMS SU2 folder. Open the folder and double-click SMS_V40_SU2.exe. NOTE: If you see a message saying SMS is not detected on this machine, the install will terminate. You must use the installation instructions Installation on an Operating System with Terminal Server or Terminal Services Installed on page 3. NOTE: If you have.net Framework, Version 2.0 installed on this computer, you will see an application error. Click OK, which allows the install to continue. SMS SU2 addresses the issue related to the error. 2. After several messages, the Welcome screen displays. Click Next. Use Database Services to back up your database. See Backing Up the Database on page 5. If you have backed up your SMS database, click Yes. The About the SMS Account Selection Dialog screen displays. This screen describes the procedure for determining whether SMS will run as a Windows service. 4. Read this information; then click Next. Windows Server 2003 only: A message displays asking if you have added the account to the IIS_WPG group. If the account you used to log on to the computer is not in the IIS_WPG, you must add it now (see Use a Dedicated Local Windows Administrator Account on page 1). You do not need to stop the install to do this. After the account is added to the IIS_WPG, click Yes. The Run Mode screen displays. 5. On this screen, you choose whether you will run SMS as a Windows service. When you run SMS as a Windows service, the SMS server automatically restarts every time the server computer is restarted. To ensure that data is always available to remote browsers, we strongly recommend that you run SMS as a service. To run SMS as a Windows service: Do not check the box at the top of the screen. Enter a Windows administrator or power user account; or select the account from the list in the box. (Server 2003: This account must also be a member of the IIS_WPG.) The account cannot have a blank password; enter the account s password, then retype the password to verify it. This account is used to synchronize the Windows account with SMS components. 6. After you type the account and password, click Next. 7. At the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install. Several progress messages display, which can take a few minutes. 8. When the Machine Reboot Required message displays, click OK. At the Windows log-in screen, log in with a Windows Administrator password. Installation on an Operating System with Terminal Server or Terminal Services Installed If you are installing SMS SU2 on an operating system that has Terminal Server or Terminal Services installed (typically Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 Server), continue with this procedure: 1. Installing via CD: Double-click the My Computer icon, and position the folder so that you can see the drive names. Insert the SMS SU2 installation disc into the CD-ROM drive of the local computer. (If you have not disabled the computer s autorun feature, hold down the Shift key until the CD drive name changes to SMS_V40_SU2.) Go to step 2 below. Installing via Download File: After downloading the file (see Beginning the Installation on page 2), do not try to launch the download from the.exe file. Instead, go to step 2 below. 2. Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 3. At the Add or Remove Programs screen, click Add New Programs. 4. NOTE: You may be prompted to insert a CD in the CD drive. Click Next; then browse to the downloaded file. 6. In the Files of Type field, select All Files. Then highlight the CD file or downloaded file named SMS_V40_SU2.exe. 7. From the Browse screen, select SMS_V40_SU2.exe; click Open. 8. When the Run Installation Program displays again, click Next. 63220-060-241B1 System Manager Software Installation Notes for SU2 SQL Service Pack 3 Installation Launching and Using SMS SU2 Backing Up the Database Reinstalling and Uninstalling SMS SU2 The SQL installation includes SQL Service Pack 3 components. If you have already installed SQL, be sure that you have also installed SQL Service Pack 3. If you need to install it, see the Microsoft website for the download. For help in using SMS SU2, see chapter 4 of the SMS Setup Guide. Also, refer to the SMS online help file. Use Database Services to back up the entire database. Database Services is in the SMS Setup Utility (Setup > Administrative > Database Services), so you will need to restart SMS. For assistance with the backup, click Help to view the SMS online help file. To reinstall SMS SU2, use the same SMS_V40_SU2.exe or the SU2 installation disk.
