Knowledge and Skills Acquisition (KASA) Summary Form* Harding University Communication Sciences and Disorders Program The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) specifies an in-depth program of study that students must complete to qualify for certification of clinical competence in speech-language pathology. Students must achieve knowledge and skills through completing a minimum of 75 semester credit hours including at least 36 at the graduate level. Harding University's KASA Form provides graduate programs with a record of the related courses a student completed at the undergraduate level. Each graduate program maintains the authority to determine courses that apply toward the certification standards specified by ASHA. The applicant must achieve a post-baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, with the graduate course work and graduate clinical practicum initiated and completed in a graduate program accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Council on Academic Accreditation. STANDARD III A. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of biological, physicel, social/behavioral sciences, and mathmatics. Course work may include anatomy and physiology, genetics, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, physics, chemistry, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and nonremedial mathmatics. CLINICAL SKILLS STANDARD IV STANDARD IV. The applicant must complete an appropriately sequenced curriculum of academic and clinical education. A minimum of 400 clock hours, including 25 hours of observation and 375 hours of clinical practice must be completed, with 325 of the 400 hours accomplished in graduate study. Ongoing direct supervision must be provided for 25% or more of student-client contact time by supervisors who maintain the appropriate ASHA Certificate of Clinical Cometence in audiology or speech-language pathology.
