More costeffective ash management on-site With Boral, you can focus on your core operations Decades spent managing and marketing fly ash, bottom ash and FGD synthetic gypsum has taught us how to make CCP management seamless with your core operations. Reducing costs now, improving returns in the future On-site means reducing costs and potential problems. It means improved processing to upgrade CCPs into marketable products. For example, Boral developed the patented Mobile Ash Conditioning System (MACS ) to produce modified high calcium fly ash, turning it into a more consistent, marketable product. Whether you need to plan for changing environmental regulations or re-engineer physical assets to make them more productive, we can do it for you. Engineering services to improve ash handling, processing and storage Boral engineering provides design and construction management of new CCP handling facilities, as well as conversion and upgrade of existing CCP handling facilities. We can customize and install the full range of ash management technology, including: Ash handling and collection systems Conveying systems Control systems Dust collection Storage and loading systems Landfill-based ash processing Fly ash mass storage Rail terminal facilities Site infrastructure improvements Experienced technical support for environmental compliance Boral s site supervisors manage environmental and regulatory issues on a routine basis. In addition, the Boral Technology Development Group conducts ongoing research to address the impact of environmental issues that affect CCP management. With Boral, you ll always be at the leading edge of environmental technology and regulatory issues.

A Boral Power Materials rep discusses Boral Intrix. The transportation and logistical infrastructure to reach more markets Off-site means greater market reach using Boral s extensive infrastructure of rail and truck transportation, storage facilities and knowledgeable people experienced in CCP distribution and marketing. For you, it means the ability to ship your CCPs to more distant markets and sell them into a wider range of applications. That s another way we optimize your revenues from product sales while reducing disposal costs. The result is a greater CCP net benefit for your operations. An established marketing presence for concretegrade fly ash For concrete producers, Boral fills a unique position as the industry s only single source of Micron3, a refined pozzolan processed from selected fly ash, which is used in High Performance Concrete. With Boral, you have a well-established marketing channel for your concrete-grade fly ash. A proven track record of beneficiation PACT is a proprietary chemical system that is a proven process for beneficiating fly ash that has been contaminated with powdered activated carbon (PAC). PACT allows marketing of normally disposed fly ash because it effectively offsets the detrimental effects of PAC in concrete applications. PACT can be applied on demand and is a low cost non-hazardous patented chemical application that can be applied directly to fly ash. Since 2008, BMT has successfully treated over 8 million tons of fly ash with this process. An expanding presence in marketing functional fillers Boral Celceram is a processed and branded product, which is marketed into the carpet industry. It is an example of how the Boral product development effort merges technical knowledge of CCPs and building materials with extensive marketing experience in the building materials industry. As the leading manufacturer of bricks, clay tiles and concrete roof tiles, the Boral organization plays a major role in the industry. Added to that is the experience of Boral in developing and marketing fillers for carpet, asphalt shingles, concrete roof tiles, bricks, concrete blocks and wallboard. It s a dual set of skills: developing effective alternative materials for building applications and knowing how to market them to the industry. Proactive marketing into non-concrete applications In non-concrete markets, Boral is a knowledgeable source for alternative materials utilizing CCPs. Boral maintains a higher proportion of marketing staff within its organization than you ll find in comparable companies, because strong marketing is a big part of what we do at Boral. Boral actively markets these branded products:

Construction Materials Boral Brickmate A product pioneered by Boral for use as a nonplastic filler in clay-fired bricks. Road Materials Soil Materials Boral AgAid An agricultural product used to correct for calcium and sulfur deficiencies in soil. Functional Filler Boral Cementic An economical alternative ingredient used in manufacturing cement. Boral ValuLite Used as an aggregate in concrete block. Boral Gypsmart A synthetic gypsum marketed to wallboard manufacturers to help conserve natural resources. Boral RoadMix Base A combination of bottom ash and modified high calcium fly ash used as a semi-rigid, non-plastic road base material, also as a fill beneath slabs. Boral Intrix Fly ash used as a mineral filler in Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Boral DuraBase Fly ash used for roadbed stabilization. Boral MACS-ASH Modified high calcium fly ash used for roadbed where dust reduction and low cost placement are of paramount concern. Boral Celceram Celceram has been successfully used as a functional filler in polyolefin, PVC, asphalt, reactive polyurethane, SBR and latex based chemistries. The engineered particle size distribution contributes to an improved packing factor. This increase in packing factor permits Celceram to be loaded to higher levels compared to traditional fillers while typically maintaining or improving the physical characteristics of the finished polymer system. With its Pre-Consumer/ Post-Industrial designation from the United States Green Building Council for LEED; Celceram is widely accepted as the green alternative in the functional filler market. Innovative research and development to optimize CCPs in new applications Ongoing Research and Development The Boral Technology Development Group has an ongoing research effort targeting a wide range of issues affecting CCP resource management and marketing. Boral s own fully staffed facilities work with those of major universities on issues such as CCP beneficiation. For example, the Group is working to advance the optimization of CCP s in new sustainable building products. Boral is continuing to make the necessary investments in R&D to meet today s and tomorrow s challenges. Top: Boral Ph.D.s lead research into using CCPs.
