Update on Medical Emergencies: How To Save A Life Including Your Own Daniel G. Pompa, DDS Friday, January 8 After Graduating from New York University College of Dentistry in 1978, Dr. Pompa completed a General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital, followed by a specialty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Lincoln Hospital, New York Medical College in 1982, he became a Fellow of The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and in 1992 a Fellow in The International Congress of Oral Implantologists. This seminar is given in a multimedia format with a hands-on segment showing drug administration, using real drugs, in real syringes, on simulated models. We will also have interactive audience participation (on a volunteer basis) to facilitate the learning experience. This presentation will review the prevention, recognition, and the management of medical emergencies which can and do occur anywhere and at anytime. Attendees will receive a comprehensive hand-out. Individual pages within the hand-out can be used and copied for learning purposes by the doctor for his or her staff. Many doctors have benefited by bringing their dental team. Dr Pompa incorporates an approach using color coded system with each color depicting different emergencies. Every participant will receive these color coded guides, with algorithms depicting each condition and its suggested management. The learner will also be shown how to create and maintain a drug emergency kit, the contents of which will be reviewed in detail. After attending this presentation, the participant will leave with considerable medical knowledge along with a simple approach that can provide life saving skills. Participants will bridge the gap between the didactic knowledge presented and the ability to manage an actual crisis. We will accomplish this by describing real emergency scenarios, and then review the recognition and management protocols for each emergency. This will be done in an open group format as case presentation discussion.
Digitally Driven Dentistry - Utilizing Advancements in Science and Technology to Deliver Restorative Excellence Sundeep Rawal, DDS Friday, February 5 Dr. Rawal received his dental degree from the University of Florida and completed his residency in Prosthodontics at the University of California-San Francisco. He enjoys working with dental specialists and technicians to create state of the art dental treatments for the comfort of our patients. He grew up on Merritt Island and is excited to serve the Brevard County community with a cutting edge technologies used in cosmetic and implant dentistry. He is an avid educator and lectures in the US and internationally. From treatment planning to design of definitive restorations, computers are changing the processes used to treat patients. Nobel Clinician in conjunction with Nobel Procera, allows us to use these newer technologies to make treatment protocols more efficient and less time consuming, especially for complex implant fixed and removable therapies. Discussion will be on a range of different clinical situations including single tooth solutions as well as the restoration of multiple teeth with custom CAD/CAM manufactured frameworks with dental implants. Also, special emphasis on how these newer technologies are making treatment more efficient and less time consuming, especially for complex full arch implant fixed and removable therapies, will be discussed. A detailed step-by-step approach to utilizing these CAD/CAM technologies will be presented which will demonstrate the advantages technology can provide in daily dentistry. Specific clinical processes that can benefit the practitioner will be highlighted. Efficient and Effective Endodontics Larry R. Farsakian, DDS Friday, March 4 Dr. Farsakian is a graduate of Loyola University School of Dentistry, then completed a General Practice Residency at Loyola University Medical Center. Upon completion of his dental training he practiced general dentistry from 1985-1988. Returning to Loyola University School of Dentistry to obtain his Certificate in Endodontics. He served as Clinical Assistant Professor in Endodontics at Loyola University School of Dentistry and as endodontic consultant to the General Practice Residency Program. He currently holds the position of part-time faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Surgery acting as the Endodontic Consultant to the General Practice Residency Program in the at Loyola Medical Center. He has been lecturing nationally for Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties on endodontics and rotary instrumentation. He has been in the private practice of endodontics in Highland Park, IL. Restorative Dentistry Update: It is Great Time to be a Dentist! Sibel Antonson, DDS, Ph.D, MBA Friday, April 1 Dr. Antonson is the Director of Education and Professional Services at Ivoclar Vivadent, and she also is a Clinical Professor and the Director of Dental Biomaterials at SUNY Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. She completed her dental and prosthodontic education in Turkey, and M.B.A. at Nova Southeastern Univ. Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. She has been involved with teaching, research and practice simultaneously initially at the Univ. of Florida, Dept. of Dental Biomaterials and Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine. She was appointed as the New Products Manager at Dentsply Caulk where she invented and launched PoGo, the first onestep composite finishing and polishing device. Prior to joining Ivoclar Vivadent, Dr. Antonson served as an Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, Dept.of Prosthodontics, also the Director of Dental Biomaterials.
