1 JSMC DENTAL EDUCATION THE JERSEY SHORE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER DEPARTMENT OF CONTINUING DENTAL EDUCATION PRESENTS ADMINISTRATION OF INJECTABLE DERMAL FILLER PHARMACOLOGICS IN A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE MANNER NEW JERSEY STATE BOARD OF DENTISTRY APPROVED CERTIFICATE PROGRAM As a service to you, our NJDA members, we are offering this program at the lowest tuition in the state, with the highest quality in keeping with our mission of excellence in continuing dental education. The attendance is limited to 18 participants. Participants will be supplied with over $ worth of materials. Please register as soon as possible for this exciting program. This 21 hour didactic and clinical course is specifically intended to satisfy the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry proposed new rule and regulation that will permit licensed dentists, who satisfy necessary education and training requirements, to administer injectable pharmacologics. Injectable pharmacologics refer to any medication classified as a neurotoxin, adjuvant or therapeutic agent including, but not limited to, hyaluronic acid (e.g. Restylane), dermal fillers (e.g. Collagen), Botulinum Toxin Type A (e.g. Botox), or similar products that have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. Licensed dentists who satisfy State Board requirements will be permitted to administer injectable pharmacologics in the peri-oral area in a dental treatment setting. The peri-oral area encompasses the gums, cheeks, jaws, lips, and oral cavity and associated tissues. A certificate of completion will be issued to dentists who successfully complete this scientific program. This 21 hour course will provide the required training to administer injectable dermal filler pharmacologics in a safe and effective manner. Participants will explore the history, mechanism of action, and safety of
2 injectable pharmacologics. The course will consist of didactic lecture, live patient demonstrations, and clinical treatment in the administration of Juvederm and Botox with hands-on assistance. Safe and conservative techniques will be introduced to the student. The course will provide comprehensive instruction in the following: Review of the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry rules and regulations pertaining to administration of injectable Discussion of the history, mechanism of action, and safety of injectable Anatomy of the head and neck; Neurophysiology, including facial tissues, parasympathetic, sympathetic, peripheral nervous system, and circulatory system relative to peri-oral tissue, and facial architecture; Pharmacological effects and contraindications, including potential drug interactions; Safety, risks, side-effects, and complications related to these treatments; Avoiding adverse reactions; Management of complications; Informed consent process and documentation; Training in conducting an appropriate physical examination; Obtaining a complete medical history, including the patient s previous medications, allergies, and sensitivities; Patient history including specific notations on the use of injectable pharmacologics, including the type of agent, dosage, duration and any previous untoward reactions.
3 Assessment of the patient s needs for cosmetic enhancement of perioral tissue; Assessment of patient s needs for functional enhancement of peri-oral tissue; Standards and procedures to ensure that injectable pharmacologics are properly administered, dispensed, and prescribed. Review and implementation of sterile techniques. Handling, reconstitution, and storage of injectable Describe the cosmetic indications and contraindications of injectable Discussion of the categories and types of dermal fillers Patient selection, including indications and contraindications; Perform a comprehensive patient evaluation for best therapeutic and esthetic outcomes; Describe techniques for injectable pharmacologics to correct nasolabial folds and wrinkles, lip lines, and lip augmentations; The beneficial effects of injectable pharmacologics on facial esthetics; Enhancement of cosmetic operative dentistry with injectable Location of the ideal anatomical sites, injection depths, and needle angles as they relate to the anatomy of the head and neck; Combining injectable pharmacologic therapy with dental therapeutic and esthetic treatment plans; Experience hands-on training with injectable pharmacologics on live subjects, including diagnosis, treatment planning, dosing, and delivery; Learn pre and post-operative instructions;

Manolakakis is double board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and American Dental Society of Anesthesiologists and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons. Dr. Manolakakis graduated from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. He then completed his oral & maxillofacial surgery training at Nassau University Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, in Long Island, New York. During his residency he gained extensive training in all aspects of oral & facial surgery for congenital and acquired facial deformities. He was trained in the latest IV sedation and general anesthesia techniques to safely treat his patients. After residency, Dr. Manolakakis completed an accredited fellowship in Facial Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. John E. Griffin,
8 Jr., a nationally recognized authority in cosmetic maxillofacial surgery. Having the ability to evaluate and treat the face, not only from a softtissue aspect, but also from the underlying facial skeleton, gives Dr. Manolakakis a distinct advantage in treating his patients in a most comprehensive manner. Dr. Manolakakis lectures nationally on facial cosmetic surgery techniques. His area of expertise, include all aspects of facial trauma, reconstruction and rejuvenation. Dr. Manolakakis is on staff at Monmouth Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, and Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He is also the Co-Director of Facial Cosmetic Surgery at Cooper University Hospital, Department of Surgery, Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a member of the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society. He is a member of the NJ Makeover Team. He is an Associate Professor at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the Department of Surgery. Kayvon Haghighi, D.D.S., M.D. Dr. Kayvon Haghighi received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, San Francisco, CA, where he received the Cecil Adams Award for Outstanding Performance in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the T.K.O. Dental Honor Society Award for Academic Excellence. Kathy A. Banks, DMD Dr. Banks is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in private practice in Toms River, Brick and Sea Girt, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Rutgers University College of Arts and Sciences, Camden with a B.A. in biology and Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia. She attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program, Camden and Stratford, and then completed her Post Graduate Residency Program Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Medicine
10 and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dental Anesthesiology and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Banks holds volunteer faculty teaching position at the New Jersey Dental School and is an attending oral and maxillofacial Surgeon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. She also holds a staff position at Community Medical center in Toms River, New Jersey. Dr. Banks is past president and of the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society, and serves as Trustee on its Board. She is the current president of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is member of the American Dental Association, The New Jersey Dental Association, and a fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). She currently serves as an AAOMS Alternate Delegate representing New Jersey and was recently appointed to serve a three year term on the AAOMS Committee on Health Care and Advocacy. There will be a live demonstration at the program. The tuition also includes one vial of Botox Cosmetic, and two syringes of Juvederm Ultra, which you will be using in the clinical session. If you use more than two syringes of Juvederm Ultra, there will be an additional charge of $ per syringe. To participate in the clinical section you must supply at least one, and up to three volunteer subjects who you will be injecting. The subject can be your auxiliary. Please select volunteer subjects on the basis of their need for cosmetic or functional enhancement of peri-oral tissue. All volunteer subjects must supply a medical history and sign consent for treatment form. You must show proof of current N.J. license, and current malpractice insurance. The tuition is refundable no later than February 19, After that time tuition is non-refundable.
