BEGINNERS POLE FITNESS COURSE INFORMATION COURSE FACTS Course Name: Spin City Beginners Pole Fitness Instructor Number of Training Hours: 16 Cost of Course: 295 (face-to-face) 240 (online training) for training outside of the UK see pricing in Course FAQ s for currency conversions. COURSE SUMMARY The Spin City Beginners Pole Fitness Instructor Course will cover the fundamentals of safe and effective pole fitness Instruction. The focus of this course is twofold; part theory, part practical. Firstly we will give you a range of teaching and coaching techniques to make you a confident and effective instructor. This will be supported by relevant pole theory including teaching safe progression and correct postural alignment. We will also cover the practical aspects of running your classes from how to structure your syllabus to the process of writing class plans. The second phase of this course is highly practical in nature, as we will teach you over 100 Beginner s Pole Fitness techniques. You will learn the first part of the Spin City pole syllabus alongside a series of strength and conditioning techniques to help your beginners progress. We will complete your practical training with beginners combinations, sequences and choreography. This course will provide you with every aspect you need to starting teaching confident and effective pole fitness classes in your community. COURSE OVERVIEW UNIT 1 WARM UPS AND COOL DOWNS This unit will take you through how to write and conduct a safe and effective warm up and cool down. We will look at the exercise science behind why we warm up and cool down, from the benefits to the correct structure; breaking down the individual elements. We will then focus on how you can make your warm up and cool down pole-specific and provide sample plans of both. UNIT 2 BASIC MOVES Here we will cover over 40 of the core Beginners Pole Fitness moves, looking at each move in detail from the teaching and safety points, to progressions and regressions also touching upon common problems. This will be supported by foundation concepts such as controlling speed and creating momentum, the range of hand grips, correct shoulder positions and how we can teach safe progression through training. This unit finishes with a practical workshop on strength and conditioning.

UNIT 3 TEACHING AND COACHING This unit looks specifically at the theory behind teaching and coaching. We will start by considering the key skills needed by an effective instructor, this takes us onto theories of education and teaching methods including discussion on different learning styles and teaching manner. We round off this unit with a practical session to consolidate these techniques. UNIT 4 CHOREOGRAPHY In this section we will cover different types of choreography, how to build routines and sequences, and how to effectively teach choreography to your class participants through a range of cueing techniques. At this stage we will start to build your choreography toolbox; giving you combinations and pole and ground-based transitions to start developing your own choreography style. UNIT 5 CLASS PLANNING This unit returns us to the theory of effective class planning. We begin with how you can structure your own syllabus, breaking this down into course and individual session planning with example session plans provided. We will cover all the elements you will need to start your own business including advice on choosing venues and equipment, approaches to class evaluation, and screening participants. UNIT 6 HEALTH AND SAFETY Our final unit is arguably the most important unit on the course, covering the health and safety aspects of pole instruction. We will discuss the factors which you can influence to make your classes safe and effective from creating a focused environment, to liability insurance, risk assessment and injury prevention, ongoing training and first aid considerations. This unit finishes with pole-specific health and safety requirements from clothing to equipment maintenance and most importantly the theory and practical knowledge behind spotting techniques and how you can put this into practice in your classes. COURSE ASSESSMENT The assessment for the Beginners Instructor Course comes in two parts: a theory assessment and a practical assessment. For the theory assessment you will be expected to complete the Instructor Workbook. The Workbook contains a series of questions and tasks that relate to the information you learnt on your course. The Workbook is split into the six units we cover on the course, with tasks relating to each. To pass this area of your course, you are expected to get 70% of your Workbook correct. The second part of the assessment is your practical assessment. So that we can assess your teaching skills, you will be expected to film yourself teaching an hour-long beginners class which you will submit for assessment. To pass this area of your course, you will be expected to achieve 70% of the practical assessment criteria along with all compulsory criteria. The criteria will be discussed in full on your course and are also available in advance by contacting the Spin City Team. Both elements will be graded by an accredited assessor and you have up to one year after your course to complete your assessment.

COURSE FAQs Why should I train with Spin City? Spin City was established in 2007 with the aim of getting more women into exercise. Gyms can often prove an intimidating environment to women, as can sports clubs - especially if you have been out of exercise for a while. We wanted to create exercise classes for women that provided great fitness benefits in a social, fun and friendly environment that was open to women of all ages, sizes, abilities and fitness levels. Aerial fitness was the perfect answer! After successful expansion to five venues, Director Kate Edwards made the decision to develop an Instructor Training Programme. Having run a successful internal instructor training programme for 18 months, Kate spent two years researching and developing concepts for the courses drawing inspiration from dance, yoga and pilates, sports coaching and sports science. Based on this, we believe our courses are the most comprehensive on the market applying both classic and cutting-edge fitness techniques to the concept of aerial. Our courses have a host of unique benefits including our online video library which supports our extensive training manuals, providing you with a learning resource throughout your instructional career as well as access to an ongoing support network of help, advice and CPD training and tutorials. If you are still unsure, why not read our testimonials and find out what others say about our training? Who wrote my instructor course? All the Spin City Instructor Training Courses are written by Kate Edwards. Kate Edwards is the owner and director of Spin City Aerial Fitness, one of the largest aerial fitness schools in the UK. A fully qualified Fitness Instructor, Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer for over 10 years; Kate specialises in the fitness aspect of aerial training teaching at her dedicated studios in Bristol, Exeter, Hungerford, Brimpton and Newbury. Kate is the World Pole Sports and Fitness 2011 Doubles Pole Runner-Up and winner of the Best Entertainer award alongside Bendy Kate Czepulkowski, a former student of Kate s. She is also the 2011 British Universities Instructor Champion; an integral part of the Equity Pole Dancers Working Party striving to constantly increase standards in the pole industry; a regular X-Pole representative and also the co-founder of the UK Professional Pole Championships - the UK s premier professional pole fitness competition. Kate is constantly looking to further her own education and training, she has completed aerial training with NECCA and Circomedia amongst others and holds over 30 fitness qualifications including Advanced Anatomy and Physiology, Group Exercise, Pilates, Pre- and Post-Natal Training, Shoulder Stability, Advanced Flexibility and Injury Prevention. Kate is a Level 5 PDC-certified instructor and a Level 3 REPs accredited instructor. She has trained some of the world s top pole performers to win both national and international titles. Kate now specialises in training other instructors how to teach Pole Fitness, Aerial Hoop and Pole Fabric applying her extensive fitness background to help educate instructors worldwide. She has written five certified aerial fitness courses which are accredited internationally with ACE, REPs, SkillsActive and the PDC. Alongside her training courses, Kate writes and produces the Pole Bible and the Aerial Hoop Bible two of the leading education resources available for aerial dancers worldwide.
