parallel PHOTO BASED PLATFORM FESTIVALS MUSEUMS This project aims to promote a full integration of emerging and professionals visual artists working with photography and curators with the objective of finding other ways of produce and select new artistic work produced by emerging artists. And, at the same time, to give emerging curators the opportunity to curate an exhibition using this original work. This way, we intend to introduce these two groups in the professional world of visual arts. It aims to simulate and give the experience to emerging visual artists and curators, from a starting point when he/ she graduates from a school to the final phase having his/her artistic work presented in exhibitions in museums and festivals of photography, around Europe. Promotes synergies and cross-fertilisation throughout the creation of new artistic works and rethinks the processes of curatorship of emerging artists. Deliberately, removes artificial boundaries between these two sides visual artists and curators and creates a ground for fostering new ideas and stimulating new forms of artistic cooperation.
parallel PHOTO BASED PLATFORM With this project we meant to produce the following outcomes: Offer emerging artists and curators a high level experience of professional training, with recognized international professionals; Enhance employability and improved career prospects for emerging artists and curators; Increase the initiative of entrepreneurship; Increase self-empowerment and self-artistic creation; Improve the cultural interchange; Enhance intercultural awareness and sharing of different artistic perspectives; Create a more active participation of emerging actors in the art world; Better awareness of the culture world and the process of art creation; Improve the way international professional art world accesses emerging artistic works; Improve the understanding of practices, methodologies and procedures in emerging artists and curators across different countries; Increase the promotion of mobility of emerging artists; Increase opportunities for emerging professional and career development; Show emerging artist how to organize other international projects; Increased quality in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and follow up of international curatorship projects in museums and festivals; Innovative and improved ways of operating towards the curatorship of emerging artist works; Improved processes of recognition and validation of artistic competences gained during training periods by curators and emerging artists.

parallel PHOTO BASED PLATFORM The project is developed in seven main axes/steps:. ARTISTIC RESIDENCY / PHOTOGRAPHY One week long artistic residency with one established photographer in each university where it is expected that the emerging artists/photographers (about ) start to develop a body of work. This meeting is supposed to work as an exchange of knowledge and a moment of creative pick. Each invited photographer (or school/university) is free to decide whether or not the residency should be subjected to a theme. From each group, a selection of 3 will be made. 2. ARTISTIC RESIDENCY / CURATING emerging curators (selected by 4 schools and also via an open call) will have a week long artistic residency, in one European city, with senior curators from museums and photography festivals around Europe (these curators are the juries of the emerging curators open call). 3. SHOWCASE 60 emerging artists/photographers selected from an open call get to present their work/portfolio to professionals from the whole spectrum of the art world. The latter will have to select the emerging artists/photographers with the most challenging original work. 4. / PHOTOGRAPHY 30 emergent artists/photographers ( from ARTISTIC RESIDENCY / PHOTOGRAPHY + from SHOWCASE) will be invited by PARALLEL to a 3 days long tutoring session with 8 professionals from the art world, in this case, mostly photographers. This session is meant to work as a brainstorm - regarding each work, everyone will bounce ideas to be discussed, being expected that these discussions will reinforce the works.. / CURATING Each emerging curator will be invited both by PARALLEL and by the receiving institution (museums/photography festivals) to spend some time in the institution accompanying the work of the curator and also to get acquainted with the institution. 6. HIP The emerging curators will see the original work produced by the emerging artists/photographers for the first time. During these days, the curators will start to curate the exhibition to be shown in the museum/photography festival that they have been working with since May 207. 7. EXHIBITION AND PUBLICATION Exhibition of the new original work, produced by the emerging artists/photographers and curated by the emerging curators, in the museums and festivals that are partners of the network. The numbers involved in this project express a wide range of international and regional cultural cooperation, with the involvement of schools with photography programmes, 4 schools with curating programmes and museums/photography festivals in Europe. We will have the participation of a total of 20 emerging artists/photographers: 0 artists/photographers from schools + curators + 60 artists/photographers in the showcase. Also, there will be a total of 33 professionals from the visual arts/photography world: professional curators + professional photographers + professional reviewers + 8 established artists for the tutoring. All together, a total of 3 people will be directly involved in this first cycle of 2 months of PARALLEL. PARALLEL is planned to be a 4 cycles project, and it is expected that in the end of the fourth year/cycle, about 70 creators will benefit directly from the process. Plus all the public that will visit each partners activities.
