POSITION: ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER LOCATION: DICKINSON TEXAS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES PAY RANGE: D.O.Q. Under the direction of the Animal Services Manager, the Animal Control Officer (ACO) enforces all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances for the communities under contract with TACS. Patrols assigned areas for stray animals found in violation; captures and impounds diseased, injured, stray or trapped dogs and cats; may respond to calls that involves non-domestic animals and/or wildlife as directed by the manager. Investigates complaints from the public involving all animals regarding cruelty, abandonment, and barking dogs. Ensures that confinment, health, safety, and conditions of animals are within codes. Investigates animal bite investigations. Provides education to the public regarding animal regulations, health, and proper care of animals. Issues warnings and court citations for violations of city animal ordinances and regulations. Appears in court to respond to court requests for contested citations. Prepares and maintains files regarding impounded dogs and cats, animal bites, quarantines, investigations, citations, vehicle logs and daily reports and operates and maintains an animal control vehicle according to policy. In addition to the above, this position provides various additional services to individuals, families, and companies which lie outside the normal scope of animal control. These services may include nuisance wildlife removal, deceased pet removal and disposal, and pet transportation services. Knowledge of local geography and street locations; and ordinances and laws related to the control of dogs, cats, livestock, and wildlife. Knowledge of all dog and cat breeds. Skill in trapping, handling, transporting and caring for animals in a humane fashion. Unilizing various animal control devices including catch poles, leashes, traps, nets, tranquilizer equipment. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workload. Written and verbal communications and conducting fact-finding research. Ability to interpret, and apply codes, laws, regulations and procedures. Observes legal and defensive driving practices and possess a valid Texas drivers license. Maintain sanitary conditions of vehicle and shelter facility. Interact effectively and ethnic and professional backgrounds. Work professionally with managers, co-workers, members of the public and professional groups. Consistantly maintain ethical behaviors exemplary of quality public service and fair standards, inclusively, among all employees and members of the public.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent is required. Applicant must pass all in-house training and must successfully complete Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within one year of employment. Must sucessfully complete Certified Humane Euthanasia training within one year of employment. Current Animal Control Officer certification is preferred. Peace Officer Certification is preferred. Veterinary Technitian training/certification is preferred. Bi-lingual language is preferred. & domestic); caustic cleaning chemicals, handling of dangerous and potentially deadly drugs. POSITION: COMBINATION SECRETARY/DISPATCHER LOCATION: DICKINSON TEXAS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES PAY RANGE: D.O.Q. Under the direction of the Animal Services Manager, this position is responsible for the day to day office responsibilities. This person will answer incoming phone calls, provide documentation on call logs, impound logs, take lost and found pet reports, purchase supplies, maintain the retail area of the shelter and dispatch information to field personnel. Accept s and documents animals being brought to the shelter from citizens. Knowledge of local geography and street locations; and ordinances and laws related to the control of dogs, cats, livestock, and wildlife; Knowledge of dog and cat breeds. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workload; Written and verbal communications and conducting fact-finding research; Knowledge of windows operating systems; Microsoft Word, Excell, Office programs; General knowledge of computer operations including fax machines, printers, copiers and other electronic devices. Must have good accounting skills. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent is required. Experience in an office or dispatcher setting. Certified Police Telecomunications is preferred. CPA is preferred. Human Resources experience is preferred.
