For actual semester start dates check the TCC website: www.tcc.edu CHANGE OF STATUS APPLICANTS** An appointment with the TCC P/DSO is required to determine eligibility before submitting any documents. **Visitors in B2 status are not advised to submit admission documents to TCC for at least 60 days after initially arriving in the U.S. Applicants in B1/B2 status may not enroll in a course of study until F1 status is acquired. F2 dependents may enroll only in a part time course of study (less than 12 credit hours). To enroll in 12 or more credit hours, F1 status must be acquired. Please note: Tidewater Community College is a non residential institution so you must be prepared to find your own living accommodations before or after you arrive. F1 Admission Checklist The following documents must be received before an acceptance letter can be processed and the Form I 20 issued: TCC Application for Admission (Online or Paper Application) Completed I 20 Application Financial Affidavit: All submitted financial documents must be ORIGINALS, no more than 6 months old, and in English and U.S. Dollars. Generic bank letters are not accepted. Demonstration of English proficiency: All international applicants must demonstrate the required English proficiency prior to completing admission to TCC. Overseas applicants and individuals living outside the immediate vicinity of the college MUST submit a current, official TOEFL or IELTS score report to complete admission to TCC. Documentation of completion of secondary studies: Please provide a COPY of your secondary school diploma/final certificate with an official English translation. NOTE: F1 transfer students must begin classes within 5 months of the SEVIS transfer release date OR program completion date at the transfer out school (whichever date is earlier). If the next available term does not begin within 5 months of your SEVIS transfer release date or your program completion date at your previous school, you must depart the U.S. and re enter the country in initial status to begin your new program. When your admission to TCC pursuant to an I 20 is complete and your SEVIS record is released to TCC, you must report to the International Student Services Office within 15 days of the program start date indicated on your I 20 to complete your transfer. A new Initial F 1 Student can only transfer if the new school s program start date is within 30 days of the student s initial arrival in the United States AND the student provides an acceptance letter from the new school.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR F1 APPLICANTS Tidewater Community College requires demonstration of some English proficiency, even for admission to English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. To demonstrate English proficiency for admission, applicants must provide one (1) of the following: An international TOEFL report with a minimum score of 61 ibt (500 paper based TOEFL). TCC s TOEFL School Code is 5787. An academic IELTS score of 6.0 or higher Successful completion of TCC s ESL placement test with a faculty placement of ESL Advanced Level or higher. A GCE or GSCE O Level passing score in English (grade A C) Transcripts from an accredited U.S. college or university for Freshman Composition with a grade of C or better. Evidence of possession of a U.S. college/university degree (Associate s, Bachelor s, Master s, Doctorate, etc.) Your international admission to TCC cannot be completed until you have demonstrated the English proficiency required of F1 applicants. APPLICANT SIGNATURE DATE HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR F1 STUDENTS All students enrolled at Tidewater Community College in F1 immigration status must carry health insurance for themselves and all dependents in F2 status as a condition of their standing at Tidewater Community College. Evidence of health insurance coverage for the entire semester must be submitted during the student s first week of classes and must be continuously maintained the entire time that the student studies at TCC, even during the summer. Approved insurance policies must meet minimum requirements as specified below: Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness; pregnancy and prescription coverage; emergency room coverage to the full benefit of the policy. Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000. Expenses associated with the medical evacuation to the student's home country in the amount of $25,000. A deductible not to exceed $300 per accident or illness. A provision for co insurance/co payment of not more than 25% of the covered benefits per accident or illness. *Students who enter the United States with government health insurance policies must provide the International Student Services Office with a detailed description of policy benefits, in English, to demonstrate that the policy benefits meet the above requirements. PLEASE NOTE: The International Student Services office does not accept health insurance policies from the ISO (International Student Organization). Please contact the International Student Services Office for a list of some accepted health insurance providers. *INITIAL HERE AFTER READING

2015 2016 F1 FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS F1 applicants must provide official evidence that sufficient funds are available to cover all educational and living expenses while studying at TCC. The total financial support must meet or exceed TCC s estimated costs identified below. All submitted financial documents must be ORIGINAL (no faxes, copies, or scans will be accepted), consist of liquid assets that are available in non retirement or non restricted funds, be no more than 6 months old at the time of the student s application, and must be in English and U.S. Dollars. If more than one sponsor will contribute to your study and living expense at TCC, each sponsor must indicate the specific dollar amount of support that will be available to you and complete an Affidavit of Support/Bank Verification form. Please make personal copies of all financial documents BEFORE submitting them to the International Student Services Office. TCC is non residential community college; no on campus student housing is available. You will be responsible for making your own living arrangements. FINANCIAL AFFIDAVIT/ BANK VERIFICATION OF DEPOSIT A sponsor may be a parent, family member, or another person who will provide financial support while you are studying at TCC. It is not necessary that a financial sponsor reside in the U.S. If there is more than one sponsor, please copy this page for each sponsor and sponsor s bank to complete. To the Financial Sponsor: In addition to signing this document, your bank officer should sign and seal the Bank Verification section of this document. Evidence of financial support must be original (no faxes, copies, or scans will be accepted), consist of liquid assets that are available in non retirement or non restricted funds, be no more than 6 months old at the time of the student s application, and must be in English and U.S. Dollars. Lines of credit are not accepted. Even if you agree to provide financial support for more than one year, you are only required to show current bank verification for the first year of study. If your bank will not sign the bottom section of this form, you may submit an original letter signed by your bank on official that contains the same information as the Bank Verification of Deposit section below.
