Here are some scrappy notes about MRBS, or the club s booking system. MRBS stands for meeting room booking system. It s free, works well and there s little else which does the job as efficiently, so the complaints stop here. There are a few entry points to MRBS. The initial one would be to look under the Visiting LKSC menu, Accommodation etc and select the Book Accommodation link. The alternative, which is easy once you have been to the mrbs pages, is to substitute the LKSC letters in the web address with mrbs: keepitsoaring.com/mrbs/ And once you are there, make yourself a bookmark!
The mrbs system is fairly easy to learn. There is a help feature. It claims erroneously that you can contact John Clark for help! You can t. On the top left of the screen, the words "Resource Booking System" is a link and can be used for navigating back to the main booking screen. Apart from this, mrbs is fairly self explanatory. If you don't fall in love with mrbs straight away, remember... 1. It is free. 2. I have spent days looking for something better, even for ready money, and found nothing. 3. Ask the club treasurer about #1 above. To log into mrbs you need to know two things. 1. Your user name. "This is the name used for you in fltops or the club database. For example, if your name was Dr. Wallace Staveachre, your user name in mrbs would be "wallace_staveachre". Hopefully your browser will remember this for you in future in case you forget. 2. Your password. Your password may be your birthday but hopefully, it is something easier to remember due to an anomaly when transferring member s birthdays via a spreadsheet, birthdates were swapped from the international system to the US system with days and months swapped and leading zeroes suppressed. It s better to use anything else.
Members who have requested login details via the website are not likely to have a birth date as a login password. Remember your password! Re-issuing passwords will incur a charge of $1,000. Just save the email you got noting your login details and work out how to find them again. Once you have logged onto MRBS, you can change your password and email address. However, there is not much anyone can do at the moment if they have your password other than booking a room in your name which is unlikely. Passwords are stored in the database in encrypted form and nobody can see them To log in... Click on the Log In button on the top right of the mrbs page header. You ll see a screen like this: Enter your name and password as described above, and click on the Log In button. If your login information was correct the top right of the screen will now look like the above.
If this did not work, then try another spelling of your name or format of your birth date! As a (very) last resource, contact the webmaster or a mrbs administrator to have them reset your details, always remembering the punitive fines involved. Once you have logged in, you have a lot of power at your fingertips. Clicking on the View Day, View Week, or View Month links at the bottom of the page will show you the calendar in different views... View Day shows all rooms... View Week and View Month will only show one room... MRBS!
Clicking on a particular day/room will allow you to book that room. For rooms, it does not matter really what time you start your booking on. There are two ways to proceed from here; one is to read this document many times, learn the system and become a power user. The second way is trial and error. For anyone without a photographic memory, the second method is preferred. If you make a mistake and enter the wrong data, mrbs will probably send you an email by the time you have worked out your error and corrected it. No big dramas. The only real trick is to work out what mrbs means when it sets a duration of 2 days, all day and then below allows you to repeat an entry. Trial and error seems a good way of finding out all this, and has the advantage that when you want to make a booking next month, you won t have burdened your mind with unnecessary knowledge. Note that since you can select the room and times from this screen, you may as well click anywhere on the previous screen to begin and entry. Click Save. Mrbs switches back to the main view, and you can now see your booking with any comments you added. Needless to say it is wrong since you are only booked in on Friday night and you wanted Friday to Saturday.
Click on the booking and you will go into a screen like this... You can now click on Edit or Delete and fix the problem... Don t worry about the duration of this booking being 13 hours. Mrbs does not cope with overnight stays too well, but nobody will turf you out of bed because of that. Changing the Repeat End Date fixes the problem, and you can now click on save and be sure that you have two nights of luxury accommodation booked in room 10 without having to nag a hard worked club official.
And if you check you email, you can see the booking details: You may have to wait a few minutes for the email to come though.
