Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate 2 COMMUNITY CHALLENGE (Social/Welfare - Generic) PURPOSE The purpose of the Community Challenge is to develop learners skills, whilst encouraging learners to identify, develop and participate in opportunities that will benefit a community. During the Community Challenge learners will explicitly develop skills of Planning and Organisation and Personal Effectiveness and apply them in an appropriate manner. BRIEF Individuals/teams can make an important contribution to the general welfare of people in a community. Learners must be personally engaged in activities to make a social contribution directly aiding people in a community. (Set in context) TASKS 1. In preparation to provide (activity set in context) for (specific community) produce a Community Activity Proposal including: an audit and development plan of personal skills and attributes; the potential needs of a community; the proposed activity, its purpose and benefits; an implementation plan including aims and objectives, timescales, targets, resources, individual/team responsibilities, opportunities and risks; achievable success criteria with plans for community feedback. 2. Implement and monitor the proposal for a period of 30 hours over a minimum of 4 weeks, ensuring safe and appropriate practice (additional comments linked to context). A Confirmation Statement must be completed by a responsible person to confirm the active participation of the learner. 3. Complete a Personal Reflective Presentation of at least 10 minutes, with detailed speaker notes and relevant visual aids/materials. The Personal Reflective Presentation must contain a record and evaluation of: the development and application of relevant personal and/or team work skills; the process involved in planning, organising and completing the activity; own performance in carrying out the activity; the impact and benefit of the outcome on the community including feedback; any relevant visual aids/materials; speaker notes.

Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate 4 ACCEPTED CHANGES TO THIS CHALLENGE BRIEF Organisations and centres are allowed to modify this Challenge Brief in the following manner. Purpose - This cannot be amended. Brief - No changes are allowed to comments in black type. The red type can be adapted for references to the specific context. The context must be credible and realistic. Tasks - No changes are allowed to comments in black type. The red type can be adapted with reference to the specific context. Summary table Type of evidence Learners must have access to an Assessment Grid. Task 1 evidence - the Community Activity Proposal can be in any format i.e. electronic, written or using multimedia and the formal plan could include diagrams, photos or other visual means. Plans could be produced using a software tool or hand-produced. Task 2 evidence the Confirmation Statement must be completed by a responsible person acting as a witness that 30 hours participation has been completed. Task 3 evidence the Personal Reflective Presentation must include speaker notes and any other supporting evidence which can be in any format i.e. electronic, written or using multimedia. Further evidence could include photographs and/or video clips of activity. Time The time suggested for tasks 1 and 3 as set out in the summary table are a minimum and may be extended. In task 2 at least 30 hours of participation must be completed over a period of at least 4 weeks. This may be extended depending on the activity. Resources The resources suggested in the summary table may be added to. Collaboration No changes are allowed. Supervision No changes are allowed. Feedback No changes are allowed.
