You get benefit(s) due to: Your low income Your disability or health problem About the Examples of jobs covered by the Scheme are: changing light bulbs and tap washers fitting grab rails, smoke alarms, door bells, locks and security chains replace broken toilet seats putting up curtain rails and many more The service is free or low cost. 2

Work with surveyors and builders on behalf of clients. Redbridge Housing Standards Team Deals with (private sector) properties in disrepair. Ensures properties are fit for habitation and occupation. Also works with tenants if landlords refuse to take action to make properties safe. Buy with Confidence Details of recommended traders can be obtained from Redbridge Council Trading Standards Buy with Confidence Scheme at www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk DABD Free confidential & independent advice on benefits and home improvement funds. Help with completing forms and home visits. Redbridge Voluntary Care CRB checked volunteers help out elderly and residents with disabilities with practical/ odd jobs. Some volunteers undertake skilled works at a cost. Warmfront National run grant scheme for loft/ cavity insulation, draught proofing, boiler replacement and new heating systems. London Warmzone Local run grant scheme for loft/ cavity insulation, draught proofing, boiler replacement and new heating systems. If on certain benefits, work can be carried out to remove hazards e.g. loose carpet, uneven floors/paths, loose stair banisters, poor lighting, broken windows, poor security, damp and mould and overloaded electrics. Age Concern and Help the Aged Handy Van Scheme Offers free basic security installations, falls prevention work, free smoke alarms/carbon monoxide detectors, Safety advice and basic small repairs. This service is available to Redbridge residents who are aged 60 and over and meets the eligibility criteria. London Fire Brigade (Fire Safety) Free advice & inspection on fire safety. Specialist advice for people with disabilities. Work in partnership with Redbridge Handyperson Scheme providing free smoke alarms and installation. Home Safe Scheme Improves home security. Available to vulnerable residents and repeat victims of domestic burglary or bogus callers.
