REMEMBER TO...... double check your phone number when you give it to us, it might avoid some extra waiting after the exhausting trip how to get here 2/2 step2: from Central station to the meeting point You made it to Milan!!! congrats!!! Our meeting point will be in Piazza Bottini, a square right in front of Lambrate F.S. on the side that goes towards Via Pacini. Just in case, here you can find the address of the hostel, but know that you will need one of us to check in anyways! However you decide to get here, you'll now need to get on the subway. To get there, just take the Green Line subway ( the tickets cost 1,50 ), in Central Station you must take direction "Gessate/Cologno Nord", and get off at the subway stop "Lambrate". Once you get out, you'll find yourself either in the square or in a street facing it. Go and wait for the BESTie with whom you will be put in contact before your departure. You'll find him/her right in front of Piazza Bottini and you'll walk together to the hostel ( just a few min. away ). 6
about 1/2 ITALY Italy is a country located on the Italian Peninsula, (famous for its "boot kicking" a ball shape, which is why we're so good at soccer) and on the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. Italy is also where a whole lot of early european history happened, especially around Rome, our Capital. Today, Italy isn't quite as grand as it used to be. Our economy after the war started to focus on the first manufacturing of imported raw materials and tourism, which became both very profitable due to the exchange rate of the Lira: when the Euro came by, the exchange rate was about 1 Euro for 2000 Italian Liras, ridiculous. With the Lira gone, these businesses stopped being so profitable for us. We have had a need to restructure our economicmodel ever since. Having said that, in the industrial world "made in Italy" is still associated with great quality. We do have a gigantic public debt, but we have a really really low private debt compared to many other countries, such as the US. This means everyone is poor, but we're poor al together! MILAN Milan is one of the world's fashion headquarters, being the heart of empires such as Armani, Prada, Gucci etc. It's also the economical capital of the country, and most of the worldwide famous industries from Italy are located in the area between Milan and Brescia. The technological innovation is also brought by the Politecnico di Milano, ranked 30th best ITALY technical school in the world by www.topuniversities.com. Moving around the city is quite simple in day time, we have four metro lines and a number of buses and trams, it becomes a bit more challenging at night, and taxis are crazy expensive. I'd tell you about the city's social life, but I have feeling you'll find out soon enough!! 7
