Great Logo Design The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself. Peter Drucker was an writer and management consultant Project Logo 1 Who is your ideal customer? A great logo is designed with your ideal customer in mind, because that s whose attention you re trying to attract. 1. What do your customers like? 2. What are their tastes? 3. What are their expectations? 2 Do you have a mission statement? A timeless logo is one that reflects what you do, who you serve, and where you want to take your business in the future. 3 Who is your competition? Your logo needs to be unique, and different from your competition. 4 Do you have a corporate color? Consistency is the foundation of branding. 5 Do you need a new logo for a start up business? Consider yourself lucky because investing in a logo helps define your business, establish your business quickly and get you out there in a big way. 6. FIELDSGRAPHICDESIGN. When you need something printed 6 Do you have a company logo now, or a picture or illustration you are currently using to identify your company. We all want to attract new customers, but we don t want to confuse our old customers. If you have something that s working, build on that idea instead of changing direction mid-stream. 7 When do you need it? Allow at least 4 weeks for design, review and modifications if it s just you choosing your company logo. Add an additional 4 weeks for each person involved in the decision making process. 8 How will it be used 1. Web site? 2. Printed materials? 3. Signage? 4. On company vehicles? Different applications require a different digital file. All file types should be given to you when the logo is finished. Project Print: Ad, Brochure, Training Manual, Trade Show Banner, Interpretive Panel 1 What is the final size? 1. Exact dimensions 2 What is its shelf life? 1. Will it become obsolete? / What is the expected life of the piece? 2. Will it be stored or immediately distributed? 3. How will distribution take place: direct mail, sales call, counter top? 4. Are there any special size, packaging or wrapping requirements? FIELDSGRAPHICDESIGN. COM HOW TO GET A GREAT DESIGN EVERY TIME 7.

Print and Web Design 5. How many pieces are needed now? 6. Will an overrun for the future use be needed? 3 Do you have images that are large enough for print reproduction? Print ready images need to be at least 300 dpi at full size. Web images need only to be 72 dpi to display well on a computer screen. That s a big difference. Print ready images can be scaled down for your website, but web ready images used in print will result in poor color quality, and poor image quality. 4 Do you need to purchase images? There are many on-line image service providers whose prices range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, per image. The price is determined by the file size, and exclusivity. For example, an image you purchase for the web will be less expensive that the same image needed for print because the file size is smaller (see point #3 above.) 5 Do you need professional photography? Head shots (photos of you and/or your staff), product shots, photos of your place of business. If your business can afford it, nothing beats a photograph taken by a professional for overall composition and reproduction quality. Project Web Graphics Web Banner, Web Buttons, Unique Backgrounds, Product Images, Web Photo Optimization, Color Palette 1 What do you need to produce? 2 When do you want it completed? 3 Do you have images you d like to use? 8. Communication My advice for an entrepreneur just starting out is to differentiate yourself. Why are you different? What s important about you? Why does the customer need you. Sara Blakely, entrepreneur and founder of Spanx It all gets down to communication You re paying a graphic designer to communicate your unique vision and your unique message to your clients. Graphic designers combine words with typography, pictures, color, symbols, paper, and perhaps even audio and video to let the world know who you are and what you do. If you need help with copywriting, choosing images, or selecting the best Word- Press web template for your unique business, an experienced graphic designer will have the skills and experience to make your vision a reality.
