CHAPTER 1 UniPrint Infinity Introduction Introduction A failover cluster is a group of independent machines that work together to increase the availability of applications and services. If one of the clustered machines, called nodes, fails, another node takes over and provides service with minimum disruption to end user productivity. This guide is designed to assist you in installing and configuring UniPrint Infinity in a two-node failover cluster. Installing UniPrint Infinity components in a cluster, ensures minimal disruption to printing processes in your environment. Only two UniPrint components can be installed in a cluster, UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server. UniPrint Infinity only supports failover two-node clusters with an active node and an inactive node. Network load balancing cluster is not supported. Example Deployment Scenarios For Windows Server 2008/R2 The following diagrams describe a two-node UniPrint Bridge failover cluster and a two-node UniPrint Print Server cluster. Depending on your needs either one cluster or both clusters can be created. Figure 1: A two-node UniPrint Bridge failover cluster.

2 UniPrint Infinity Figure 2: A two-node UniPrint Print Server failover cluster. Figure 3: UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server clusters.

Chapter 1: Introduction 3 For Windows Server 2012/R2 BEST PRACTICE: The storage volumes of one cluster should not be exposed to any other server including those of another cluster. When deploying UniPrint Infinity clusters for both UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server components, ensure that the UniPrint Bridge cluster is created and configured first before proceeding with UniPrint Print Server. Windows Server 2012/R2 introduced many changes in functionality to the traditional failover cluster of Windows Server 2008 and earlier. These include support for shared virtual hard disks, improved handling of virtual machines in a Hyper-V cluster, improved handling of Cluster Shared Volumes and improved handling of the cluster quorum. In Windows Server 2012/R2, UniPrint Infinity components are installed on virtual machines that are hosted on one of two clustered Hyper-V servers. Since this is an even-node cluster, it is strongly recommended that the Node majority with witness cluster quorum configuration be used. The following diagram describes a two-node Hyper-V failover cluster with UniPrint Bridge and UniPrint Print Server installed on virtual machine roles. Depending on your needs, either one, or both virtual machines can be created on the same Hyper-V node.

CHAPTER 2 UniPrint Infinity UniPrint Cluster in Windows Server 2008 UniPrint Cluster in Windows Server 2008 System Requirements Pre-installation Preparation Before installing UniPrint in a failover cluster, ensure that your cluster is correctly set up and working properly. The following instructions are intended for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 only. If you have a different version of Windows Server deployed, refer to the chapter that is intended for the specified Windows version in your environment. If you plan to create both a UniPrint Bridge cluster and a UniPrint Print Server cluster, start by installing and configuring the UniPrint Bridge cluster first. Take note of the cluster IP address of the UniPrint Bridge cluster. While installing UniPrint Print Server on the individual nodes, enter the UniPrint Bridge cluster IP address in the UniPrint Bridge Configuration dialog box, instead of the IP addresses of the individual Bridge nodes. Each UniPrint node requires Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or R2 with the Print and Document Services role installed. Prior to installing the UniPrint Bridge component, the following additions need to be made to the registry: 1. On both Bridge nodes, open the registry editor. 2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UniPrint\ Control Service, add a new value called clusternetworkname and assign it the name of the cluster service, for example clusterps. 3. Create another value called SharedPath and assign it the value of Q:\Cluster\UniPrint Suite, where Q is the drive letter of the quorum. This path must already exist on the quorum. CHAPTER 3 UniPrint Infinity UniPrint Cluster in Windows Server 2012 UniPrint Cluster in Windows Server 2012 This chapter provides additional guidance for installing and configuring UniPrint Infinity in a Windows Server 2012/R2 Hyper-V failover cluster. Before installing UniPrint Infinity in a Hyper-V failover cluster, ensure that your cluster is correctly set up and working properly. The following instructions are intended for Windows Server 2012/R2 only. If you have a different version of Windows Server deployed, refer to the chapter that is intended for the specified Windows version in your environment. If you plan to cluster both the UniPrint Bridge and the UniPrint Print Server, start by installing and configuring the UniPrint Bridge first on a Hyper-V virtual machine. Take note of the Bridge virtual machine s IP address. While installing UniPrint Print Server on a different virtual machine, enter the Bridge virtual machine IP address in the UniPrint Bridge Configuration dialog box, instead of the Hyper-V host IP address. How Failover Works in Windows Server 2012/R2 Since UniPrint components are installed on virtual machines, service stoppages are monitored by both the Service Control Manager on the virtual machine and Virtual Machine Monitoring on the Hyper-V node. 1. On the first service stoppage, the Service Control Manager restarts the service. 2. On the second service stoppage, the Service Control Manager restarts the service again. 3. On the third service stoppage, Virtual Machine Monitoring takes over and restarts the virtual machine. 4. After the virtual machine restarts and if the service stops again (forth service stoppage), the Service Control Manager restarts the service. 5. On the fifth service stoppage, the Service Control Manager restarts the service again.

Installing UniPrint Bridge and/or UniPrint Print Server System Requirements Pre-installation Preparation For a Hyper-V failover cluster, each node requires the following: Windows Server 2012/R2 or Windows 2012 Hyper-V Server. If Windows Server 2012/R2 is installed, then both the Hyper-V role and the Failover Clustering feature also needs to be installed. Ensure that the available cluster storage is a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV). Ensure that the quorum configuration is Node majority with witness. Each virtual machine requires the following: Windows Server 2012/R2 with the Print and Document services role and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 installed. These virtual machines must also be members of the same domain as the Hyper-V hosts or a member of a domain that has a trust relationship with the host domain. Ensure that each virtual machine and their virtual hard disks are stored on a Cluster Shared Volume. Prior to installing UniPrint components, the virtual machine needs to be made highly available by adding it as a Role in the Failover Cluster Manager and on each virtual machine the Windows Firewall needs to be configured. Making a Virtual Machine Highly Available To the make a virtual machine highly available, do the following: 1. Setting Startup Priority If both a UniPrint Bridge virtual machine and a UniPrint Print Server virtual machine have been created, then it is important to ensure that the UniPrint Bridge virtual machine is started first after a failover to the other Hyper-V node. 1. On the Hyper-V node, in the Failover Cluster Manager, under the cluster name, click Roles.

30 UniPrint Infinity 2. Right-click the UniPrint Bridge virtual machine, point to Change Startup Priority and then select High. 3. Right-click the UniPrint Print Server virtual machine, point to Change Startup Priority and ensure that Medium is selected.

CHAPTER 4 UniPrint Infinity Configuring SecurePrint in a Cluster Configuring SecurePrint in a Cluster If a UniPrint Print Server cluster has been created then the configuration steps for the vpad will differ slightly from those in a non-clustered environment. All other SecurePrint tasks and features will function as they normally would in a non-clustered environment. For more SecurePrint instructions, refer to the UniPrint Infinity Administrator s Guide. Enabling the UniPrint vpad for Clustered Print Servers Follow these instructions for both the vpad device and the SecurePrint Emulator. 1. Most likely the vpad will be pointing to a UniPrint Print Server. However, for clustered print servers it should be pointing to the cluster IP address. To change the Print Server IP address to the cluster IP address, tap Customize or Settings.

32 UniPrint Infinity 2. Tap Connect to Server. 3. Change the IP address and port number to that of the Cluster IP address. 4. Tap to hide the keyboard and then tap Apply.

Chapter 4: Configuring SecurePrint in a Cluster 33 5. Tap Yes. 6. Log on to the UniPrint Bridge with administrative rights. If the UniPrint Bridge is clustered, log on to the active node. 7. Open the UniPrint Management Console. 8. Under Properties & Settings, click SecurePrint. 9. Click Refresh if the vpad does not appear. 10. Right-click the vpad device and select Enable.

34 UniPrint Infinity 11. Once enabled, return to the vpad and the user name entry screen should appear. NOTE: For more detailed instructions on configuring SecurePrint and the UniPrint vpad, such as changing the interface language, consult the UniPrint Administrator s Guide. Troubleshooting SecurePrint In The Event Of A Failover If print jobs have not been released when the active Bridge or Print Server fails, then those print jobs cannot be released until the failed node comes back up again. To circumvent this issue, although it is not recommended, you can turn off encryption which will allow the print jobs to be released. If the UniPrint Bridge is clustered, do the following: 1. On the active Bridge node, open the Registry Editor. 2. Locate the key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UniPrint\Control Service\Processors\QUEUEJOB and then modify the Disarm DWORD value to 1. Click OK. 3. Close the Registry Editor.

Chapter 4: Configuring SecurePrint in a Cluster 35 If the UniPrint Print Server is clustered, do the following: 1. On the active Print Server, open the Registry Editor. 2. Locate the key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\UniPrint\Control Service\Processors\GASSJOB and then modify the Disarm DWORD value to 1. Click OK. 3. Close the Registry Editor.
