ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 2 OF 9 Acquiring Echo360 Personal Capture You can install Personal Capture on your home PC, allowing you to capture audio, video, and your computer screen. Recommended/Required Hardware and Software: Note: Other configurations may work but have not been tested. Processor: Intel Core i5 processor or equivalent (Intel Core i7 processor or equivalent if recording Audio, Video, and Display/Video Capture) Windows 7/8 Administrator access to the computer (request help if installing on university computers) Internet connection RAM: 2 GB Hard Drive: 20GB Internal or external audio recording device (required for capture) 1. Request access Before downloading the software you must have access to UIC s Echo360 service. Request access by filling out the lecture capture request form, found at: http://go.uic.edu/signupforecho360 Note: You must fill out this form for every class you will use Echo360 with. Click Submit Request Provide additional information if available: Publish to: This option will allow you to publish directly to your Blackboard courses or itunesu from the Personal Capture software.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 3 OF 9 2. Download software Navigate to echo360.uic.edu, where it will ask for your netid and password. Log in. Click the Downloads tab. Choose Installer for EchoSystem Personal Capture (Windows) to download the software. Note: Pay attention to the download location. 3. Install Navigate to the download location and Rightclick on the install file. Choose Run as Administrator A User Account Control window may appear confirming that you want to run the program installer. Enter a password if required and Click Yes. The installer will detect if Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 is installed. ĔĔIf it is not detected, you will be prompted to install it. ĔĔOnce the.net framework is installed the Application README text will be displayed. Click Accept to continue. You will be prompted to accept a license agreement. Click on I accept the agreement and Next to continue. Follow the installation wizard. When the Select Application Mode page appears, as shown below, select Personal Capture Mode then click Next. Continue through the installation wizard, agreeing with each step. When the installation is complete you should have an icon in your Start Menu and on your Desktop.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 4 OF 9 Configuring Echo360 Personal Capture Properly configuring Echo360 Personal Capture will allow high quality capture and direct upload to BlackBoard. 1. Log in to the software Click the Login link at the top of the Software Capture window. Fill in your netid and password. 2. Open configuration Click the Settings button at the top of the Software Capture window. 3. Enter server information Enter the ESS URL : https://uic-cc-ess1.ad.uic.edu Click Test Connection. A check mark should appear. 4. Enter storage location Click Browse to select the save location of your captures. Click Done. Note: Remember this so you can backup captures. https://uic-cc-ess1.ad.uic.edu C:\Users\... 3 4 5. Set audio source You must have an audio source. Click the drop down to choose a microphone if you have more than one installed. 5 6 6. Check audio You should see the light-bar fluctuating in response to sound. This means your audio input is working correctly.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 5 OF 9 7. Choose primary display (optional) This will record your computer screen. If you have multiple screens, select the appropriate one. 8. Choose secondary video input (optional) This will record a webcam or other video input if selected from the drop down. 9. Select capture quality You can set this to Low, Medium, or High Low: Small files for slow internet speeds. Not good for recording screens. Medium: Good for most captures and internet speeds. Small text will be hard to read. High: Use this only when recording screen captures with lots of text or when other visual elements are important. Notes
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 6 OF 9 Recording with Echo360 Personal Capture Properly configuring Echo360 Personal Capture will allow high quality capture and direct upload to BlackBoard. 1. Enter a title Fill in the title bar at the top of the page. 1 Filename 2 2. Check configuration Make sure software is properly configured. Refer to Configuring Echo360 Personal Capture to check: Capture inputs Capture quality 2 3. Select Auto-Publish (optional) Autopublish will immediately begin uploading a copy of the capture when you click stop. Note: You can learn more about publishing in Publishing Captures with Echo360. 4. Click Record After five seconds the capture begins and the preview window minimizes to the taskbar. 5. Pause or Stop While minimized you can use hotkeys: Pause/Resume: Alt + F5 Stop: Alt + F6 You can also click Stop or Pause in the software, but this will be recorded in your display capture. 6. Capture list All captures should appear in your Recordings area.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 7 OF 9 Editing with Echo360 Personal Capture You can trim the start and end or remove sections from the middle of captures using Personal Capture s simple tools. Note: You may want to backup your files before editing. Alternatively you can upload the originals to the Echo360 server before editing. To upload files please see Publishing Captures with Echo360. Access the Editing Interface Hover over a capture you would like to edit. A row of icons will appear. Click the Edit icon to start the Personal Capture editor. The Editing Interface: A. Current Time B. Trim Markers C. Cut Markers D. Play E. Stop F. Volume G. Edit Markers B A B C D E F G 1. Set Trim Markers Drag the Trim Markers to the desired locations to remove the beginning or end of the video. Portions to be removed will turn dark blue.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 8 OF 9 2. Set the Cut Markers Select the segment to be removed by setting the Cut Markers. 3. Click Make Cut Click Make Cut to set the current cut. The removed segment will turn a dark blue. The cut markers will now be available to make additional cuts. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until edits are complete. 4. Review edits Click the Play button at any time to review the edited capture. 5. Apply edits Clicking Apply Edits makes your changes permanent. 6. Confirm edits An alert will appear. Click Yes to confirm edits. Once confirmed, edits can not be undone! 7. Wait for editing to finish The edits will process in the recording window. Wait for the progress bar to finish.
ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE 9 OF 9 Publishing with Echo360 Personal Capture Publishing a capture uploads the file to the ESS for processing. Once processed, the capture is posted in the EchoCenter for the section you select, allowing students to view the material. Note: You must be the instructor of at least one course to upload to EchoCenter. Request access at: http://go.uic.edu/signupforecho360 1. Click Publish Hover over the capture you would like to publish. The Publish icon will appear. Click it. 2. Log in Use your netid and password. Skip this step if you have already logged in. 3. Enter capture details Fill in necessary information: Title Course (Pick from the drop down) Output (Pick from the drop down) 4. Choose Availability and Upload Check Make Available or do it later through echo360.uic.edu. Click Upload. 6. Wait for upload to complete Do not close the program until the upload is complete.
