Les Koenning, Jr. P.O. Box 5327 MSU, MS 39762 Cell Phone: (662) 418-7347 koenningles@yahoo.com EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Current Position: Mississippi State University Offensive Coordinator For more than 25 years, I have prepared for an opportunity to lead a NCAA Division I-A Football Program. My successful experience as an assistant coach both at the college and professional level has provided me with an excellent foundation to understand and implement the organization, operation and management of a successful, productive college football program. I believe I have a unique set of skills and background to be successful leading a major college program. Among my specific strengths are: Innovative Offensive Coach who has been successful at each stop while adapting offensive schemes to the talent available. Successful Quarterback Coach who excels in teaching the intricacies of the most crucial position and getting positive production while reducing turnovers and mistakes. Tutored under some of the giants of our profession: Jimmy Johnson, Ray Perkins, Darrell Royal, Fred Akers, R. C. Slocum and Dennis Franchione. Each of these valued mentors has provided me with specific skills, theories and techniques that I incorporate into my coaching methodology; and each will gladly serve as a personal reference for my candidacy and qualifications. NFL coaching experience with the Miami Dolphins. Extensive recruiting success in landing high profile recruits. Extensive contacts in high school coaching ranks for recruiting. I have coached at 5 major Division I universities in the State of Texas and have deep, important ties into the richest recruiting area of the country. Coaching background: I grew up watching game film and learning football; my father is a Texas High School Hall of Fame Coach. This gives me deep understanding and unique insights into coaching theory and practice; as well as relationships with high school coaches. Success as a player. I was a 3 year starter and permanent team Captain at The University of Texas after an All-State high school career in Texas. This gives me a unique perspective in relating to today s athletes both in recruiting and after they are on campus. Media and alumni relations. I fully appreciate the importance of these functions and have been increasingly involved with both. Meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of running a successful program. Having been through numerous rebuilding efforts, and having learned from master program builders; I have a full grasp of the issues to be addressed and a comprehensive plan to implement the necessary changes. First, by engaging in an exhaustive study and analysis of the current state of the program, and why it is in its current situation, I can quickly determine what must be done to create a winning atmosphere and tradition. Next, with infectious enthusiasm, tireless attention to details, and focusing on the teaching of fundamentals, I thoroughly prepare my teams to overachieve on the field. Finally, my step-by-step plan of action allows me to work with my staff to insure the future success and stability of the program by instituting an organized blueprint for success including: the non-stop recruitment of student athletes who are well-rounded, good citizens, and individuals who will become a credit to the University and community; working on program marketing and promotion designed to create, develop and foster the support of the athletic department, University, alumni, and local fan base and business community; and by installing a proven system and organizational approach to the management of a football program. My professional preparation has given me the unique ability to lead a program to conference championships, national recognition, and playoff appearances. I am eager for such an opportunity. I will gladly provide references and make myself available for interviews in person or telephonic. I look forward to speaking with you. Sincerely, Les Koenning, Jr. Les Koenning, Jr. Executive Summary Page 3 of 7
