This document describes the installation of a PostScript print driver for a Xerox Workcentre 5735 on a Windows 7 operating system. The printer is located in Science B room 048 and on the network at IP address 136.159.82.234, The pre-downloaded driver used was PS Driver - Xerox User Interface - Microsoft Certified * The procedure is similar to that required for the Xerox Workcentre 7346 (Colour) located in the same room and at IP address 136.159.82.233 * This procedure is similar for the Windows XP and Vista operating systems as well. Windows XP notes in italic *Before starting the procedure visit http://www.support.xerox.com and locate and download the appropriate driver for the printer you wish to install. Avoid mini-drivers as they do not support Network Accounting. We recommend PS drivers. For the 7346 choose the WorkCentre with built in controller. In both cases you will have the best success with the PS driver- Xerox User Interface Microsoft Certified WorkCentre 5735 (Black & White) WorkCenter 7346 (Colour and Black& White)
1. Start Control Panel Devices and Printers (XP Printers and Faxes) 2. Click Add a printer (XP Add Printer ) 3. Add a Local Printer (XP at this point uncheck the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer ) 4. Create a new port 5. Type of port TCP/IP
6. Enter the IP address of the printer in the IP Address field. The Port name field will auto name You can change this name to whatever you wish. 7. Uncheck Query the printer and automatically select the driver 136.159.82.233 = Xerox 7346 in SB048 136.159.82.234 = Xerox 5735 in SB048 136.159.80.233 = Xerox 7346 in SA105 136.159.80.228 = Xerox 3635 in SA144 (XP intermediate windows, Device Type Standard Generic Network Card or Xerox Workcentre ) 8. Click Have Disk 9. Browse to the location where you previously downloaded and unpacked the printer driver, click open
10. Select the appropriate printer model. Matching the IP address you entered at step 6. 11. At this point you can give the printer a common name which you may find easier to recognize In this example The name describes location (SB048), black and white(b+w), the printer model(5735), and finally the printer language(postscript). 12. Set as the default Printer, your choice. 13. Do not print a test page at this point, the printer has not been configured to supply proper accounting yet and will not work until that is done. (XP Do not share, Do not print a test page) 14. Finish Configuration The Print Driver is now installed, in order to use it, it must be configured. By configuring the printer from the current window you will be setting printer defaults for the computer. 1. Right click the printer you wish to configure and choose Printer Properties (XP right click and choose properties )
2. This is a second chance to give the printer a familiar name. 3. Click Preferences 4. Setting your default preferences. These settings will be the default for all print jobs sent to this printer, if you normally prefer 2 sided printing the select that option here, Stapling, Hole punching may also be available options. 5. **For the 7346 Colour printer please set the default output to Black & White at this point. That way accidental print jobs wiill be the less expensive option. If you really want colour the preference can be overridden at the time of printing. 6. Click Apply, Click OK 7. Accounting setup, click the configuration tab followed by Accounting
8. Select Xerox Network Accounting 9. If you use multiple copy accounts ie course accounts, then use the Always Prompt setting. This setting means the print driver will prompt you to enter your code at the time of printing. If typo s plague you uncheck Mask User ID This is also the proper setting for a multi user computer, but remember to Uncheck Remember Last Entered Codes in that case. 10. For single user computers select Do Not Prompt and then enter your copy code in the Default User ID field. 11. Enter the number 1 into the Default Account ID field 12. Click OK 13. Click Apply followed by OK
You are finished and ready to print.
