Customer Release Notes for Xerox Integrated Fiery Color Server for the Xerox Color C75 Press, version 1.0 This document contains important information about this release. Be sure to provide this information to all users before proceeding with the installation. NOTE: This document uses the term Fiery server to refer to the Xerox Integrated Fiery Color Server for the Xerox Color C75 Press. Installation and Setup Fiery Setup Wizard changes static IP addresses If the Fiery server is assigned a static IP address and then you use the Fiery Setup Wizard, the wizard automatically resets the Fiery server to DHCP and set the IP address to 0.0.0.0. Once this happens, the IP address also fails to display on the Configuration Page. If this occurs, on the digital press touch panel, in Setup, you must assign a static IP address again. Printing After printing and suspending the Configuration Report If you print the Configuration Report from the digital press touch panel, suspend printing, and then attempt to resume printing, jobs do not resume printing as expected. This includes the Configuration Report and all other jobs in the Printing queue. FTP Printing may appear to be on in Network Switch mode When the Fiery controller is set to Network Switch mode, FTP printing may appear to be on even though it is not (for example, in Configure and on the Start page). This only occurs after you first set up Network Switch mode. Network Switch mode does not support FTP printing (only Direct mode does). If desired, to avoid confusion, you can reboot the Fiery server and FTP Printing no longer displays in Network Switch mode. Image Enhance Visual Editor Working with duplicate jobs In Image Enhance Visual Editor, changes are applied to both the selected job and any duplicates of the selected job. Page 4 ADDING USER CREDENTIALS IN JOB PROPERTIES 1 If printing from the printer driver, after you select Print in your application and select the Xerox Color C75 Press, open Job Properties. The sequence of steps to open Job Properties varies according to the application. Look for something like Printer Properties, Preferences, or Advanced in the Print dialog box after selecting the Fiery server. 2 Alternatively, if printing from Command WorkStation, right-click the job and select Properties. 3 Select the Job Info tab. 4 Scroll to the section called Xerox accounting. 5 Type the Account ID, User ID, and Password to be used for the job. 6 Set any other properties for the job as required, and then submit for print. ADDING DEFAULT USER CREDENTIALS FOR A PRINTER DRIVER ON A WINDOWS CLIENT COMPUTER 1 On a Microsoft Windows client computer, open the main printers and drivers dialog box for the operating system, such as Printers, Printers and Faxes, or Devices and Printers. 2 Select the Fiery server and open printer properties. The sequence of steps to open the printer driver properties dialog box varies according to the Windows operating system. 3 Open the printer driver's advanced properties, such as Printing Preferences. 4 Select the Job Info tab. 5 Scroll to the section called Xerox accounting. 6 Type the Account ID, User ID, and Password to be used for every job printed from the client computer. 7 Select OK in the Fiery server dialog box and the main printer driver dialog box. Fiery server software limitations System When Secure Erase is turned on in Configure, certain tasks take longer to complete. These tasks include: Deleting multiple jobs Setting Job Properties for multiple jobs Backup and Restore NOTE: When Secure Erase is turned on, do not let the hard disk drive fill to maximum capacity. To keep disk storage at a manageable level, delete the scans and jobs in the Hold queue frequently.
Page 5 Client Cover Page comes over as separate job when sent from a Mac OS X client. Printing If a job based on specific media type/weight (for example, heavyweight paper) exceeds the page limit for selected finishing options (for example, staple) the job is processed and canceled and an error is displayed. Half Z-fold finishing option is ignored (without a warning message) for unsupported media size/weight/type. A combination of supported and unsupported media (Mixed Media-based jobs) with selected Half Z-fold finishing option is allowed. If you suspend and then resume printing a job, and then print a second job, Suspend Printing is unavailable. In fact, Resume Printing can still be selected, which is incorrect because the job is being printed. To correct this issue, press Resume Printing twice and the Suspend Printing option becomes available. Print Options You cannot print on coated paper if Paper source is set to Auto tray select and Media type is set to Any. You must select a specific tray or a specific coated media type. If the Punch edge is selected not according to the job orientation, the job is printed without the punch and without the error message. If the Staple finishing option is selected not according to the job orientation, the job is not printed, instead it is canceled with an error message. The Mirror option in the printer driver and the Mirror option in Job Properties are mutually exclusive. Do not turn on the option in both places for the same job. To use the Paper Catalog option on a Windows 7 computer with Two-Way Communication turned on, you must have Administrator privileges. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Print Management and select Run as administrator. For more information, see Printing. Command WorkStation For each digital press, if you are using the gettiff macro, commonly used on monochrome devices, the recommendation is to use getform. Using gettiff macros may impair performance. The macro, getform, has a wider PDL format support and caching performance. The maximum number of copies allowed in the printer driver and Command WorkStation Job Properties is 9999. The maximum number of spot colors per page in a composite overprint file is 32. The maximum number of spot colors is 250 per page with CMYK. When the hard disk of the Fiery server is full, jobs sent to the server will not print until the current job is finished and completed jobs are removed from the Printing queue.
Page 6 Jobs archived using any previous version of system software may not be backward compatible to other Fiery Print Servers. Enfocus pop-up window may appear if all of the required fields are not completed. Printing from some applications may require Cache PDF and PS objects to be turned off (the default is Off) to allow for proper printing. Duplicate feature inside of Preview may cause unexpected results with Mixed Media. If a job is sent with a Custom Paper Profile but that profile is not setup on the digital press, the job will need to be cancelled. The profile needs to be set up on the digital press and then the job can be re-submitted. Print Drivers and Printing If you install the Windows Fiery server printer driver with Point and Print, you may receive an error when you view the printer driver properties. If you try to print a job with incompatible Finishing print options, you will receive a message that Finishing could not be completed as selected. If you print a job and the correct paper is not loaded in the printer, the load paper message may not specify the paper weight you need to load to complete your job. The paper needed for the job is displayed in the Command WorkStation Errors and Alerts panel. Calibrator If you start Calibrator from the applications folder while Command WorkStation is running, Command WorkStation may stop responding. Xerox Color C75 Press It is recommended that 300 gsm for auto duplex be fed from Trays 5, 6, and 7. For more information, see the Xerox Color C75 Press Customer Expectations Document. Direct Connection limitations The Direct connection between the Fiery server and digital press (which sets up the direct queue) is intended for downloading fonts to the digital press and for use with test applications that require back channel information from the Fiery server. If security is a concern, Direct connection is not recommended for printing jobs because some jobs sent to the Direct connection cause temporary files to be stored on the Fiery server. For full security, use Secure Erase instead. For more information, see Configuration and Setup.
