General rules LUISS and Stanford University have a cooperation agreement in the field of Economics, Management and Business. LUISS students will have the possibility to attend courses during the Stanford Summer Term 2013, obtaining the recognition of the courses on their LUISS study plan. Courses will be held in English. LUISS students will be in Stanford after the second year courses at LUISS, attending courses during the Stanford Summer Term. The students will be registered at Stanford for 8 weeks and will be required to pay all fees directly to Stanford. LUISS students, in order to register the courses taken at Stanford in the LUISS study plan, will have to be in compliance with Stanford rules and conditions, as for credits envisaged, attendance, deadlines etc.. B. Requirements for the participation 1. Students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor Degree in Economics and Business or the Bachelor Degree in Economia e Management during the A.Y. 2012 2013 can participate to this Call; 2. Students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor Degree in Economics and Business are required to have passed a minimum of 60 credits (ECTS/CFU) of their study plan by 1
the end of the first examination session of the A.Y. 2012-2013 (December 2012 - February 2013); Students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor Degree in Economia e Management are required to have passed a minimum of 67 credits (ECTS/CFU) of their study plan by the end of the first examination session of the A.Y. 2012-2013 (December 2012-February 2013). 3. Accepted English certificate: students are required to present a TOEFL with a minimum score of 85/120 (nevertheless a score equal to 90 95 is strongly recommended by Stanford University); an IELTS with a minimum score of 6,5 and a CAE with a minimum B may be submitted to Stanford and accepted in case of ad hoc approval. 4. Students are required to have passed the Mathematics exam. 5. Students will be able to participate only if their administrative position is regular and have no pending administrative issues with LUISS. C. Application Deadline The application deadline for participating to the program, by handling the complete application to the International Development Office 1, will be February 28th 2013 at 12.00. D. Evaluation of candidates and Vodafone Scholarships The two different lists (one for Economics and Business students; one for Economia e Management students) of eligible candidates are formed through the not disputable evaluation of an Academic Commission nominated by the Deans. The Academic Commission will evaluate eligible students (a motivational interview may be required) and assign, to the first candidate from each list, a partial contribution of 3.833 $. Additional scholarships (2.636 $ each) will be available for up to 4 students (2 Economics and Business students and 2 Economia e Management students). Regarding these additional scholarships, the Academic Commission might decide, by its not disputable evaluation, to assign all or none or an intermediate number of them. At the end of the selection process applicants will be divided in three groups: Students selected for the program, that will receive the Vodafone Scholarship (3.833 $ for: the first Economics and Business student and for the first Economia e Management student; and 2.636 $ for up to: two Economics and Business students and two Economia e Management students); Students selected for the program without the Vodafone Scholarship; Students not selected for the program. 1 viale Romania, 32 Borghetto, next to the bookstore 2
E. Publication of results, steps of the Stanford application, orientation for departure The list of eligible candidates (who have presented a complete application with accepted language certificate) will be published by March 4th 2013. They will be required to write their confirmation of participation to the program (international@luiss.it) by March 6th 2013 at 12.00. Confirming students will be nominated by the International Development Office to Stanford. They will then receive from Stanford the information, in order to start the application procedure (including also the visa request procedure) at Stanford: this step on the Stanford online system has a non refundable cost of $ 75 directly paid to Stanford. Students will receive the user ID and password, only after the completion of this application and after their final acceptance by Stanford, and will be able to apply to courses accordingly starting from April 14th (TBC). Students are therefore strongly suggested to start the application procedure as soon as they confirm the program in order to be ready to finalize the courses enrolment as soon as the enrolment to courses will open (April 14th TBC). According to the information provided by Stanford, students will be allowed to drop out of the program (by notifying this to LUISS and to Stanford by written email and through other means eventually communicated by Stanford) by April 15th, in order to ask for a refund of the required tuition fees (only the application fee of 75 $ will be not refundable). After this date, financial implications with Stanford will occur. Students will be required to finalize the payment of the Stanford bill to access the program (please see paragraph G) by mid-june, directly to Stanford. Ad hoc orientation and assistance in finalizing the enrolment procedure to Stanford will be organized by the International Development Office. F. Courses Students can choose 2 or 3 among the following courses at Stanford (this list will be confirmed by Stanford around January 7 th 2013). Students have to reach an amount of 8 or 9 Stanford Units, that will be recognized, if successfully passed and according to LUISS rules, on the LUISS study plan, as a maximum of 8 ECTS of elective courses and 4 ECTS of Other Activities. For this reason students should prepare a first and second choice of Stanford pool of courses, as attachment to the LUISS application form. G. H. Additional Points The successful participation to this programme will provide, according to the LUISS rules, an additional point to the LUISS students final Degree score. The successful participation to this programme will be positively considered in the selection process for LUISS Double Degrees and other Joint Programmes Calls managed by the International Development Office for departures in A.Y. 2014-15. I. Incompatibility The calendar at Stanford does not permit students presently attending the Utrecht Partnership Program to participate to the Stanford Summer Term Program. The calendar at Stanford will be incompatible with some academic calendars of Erasmus and Exchange Partners. Students interested to both programs are urged to check academic calendars accordingly. J.
