Organization of the ENSMSE third year: The third year is a forerunner to the future engineer s professional life. It is aimed at preparing in optimal conditions students for a first position within a company, thanks to many industrial projects during the academic year (companies audits, technical studies, etc.), and to the integration of managerial aspects, including in the professional profiles of a high technical nature. The programme is made up of four modules, each of 90 hours. The first three modules have the shape of the second year elective courses. The fourth module is devoted to an industrial project taking place throughout the third year. Modules are organized in professional profiles leading to identified career choices. As for the two previous years, the programme curriculum is also made up of: Communication and professional skills development, foreign languages. An industrial placement. Third year: industrial placement (duration: 16 to 26 weeks) Objectives: To apply the themes and working methods students have acquired in their optional course, To check the appropriateness of the student s personal project to the field realities, To approach the engineering functions and share some responsibilities, To prepare future integration in a company. 1

SOMMAIRE: PROCESSES AND ENERGETICS PRESENTATION: These profiles lead to a downstream positioning in the field of processes. They are intended for students who are more interested in plant sizing and management rather than in physico-chemical models. These profiles aim at leading students to future career paths in process services, technical aid, and engineering rather than in research. This optional course is deliberately non-specialized and offers job opportunities in a wide range of sectors such as the refinery treatment processes and petrochemical industry, chemistry, pharmacy, food processing industry, energy, metallurgy, bioprocesses. ENVIRONMENT PRESENTATION: This optional course aims at preparing the engineering students for industrial and territorial environment jobs in a context of sustainable development while preserving the non-specialized approach that is essential to engineer involved at the technical and scientific level in the resolution of environmental problems. Project management, law, regulation are essential for the activities of industrial companies and public sectors in charge of implementing technical solutions to prevent and reduce pollutions, environmental hazards and risks. MODULE : PROJET INDUSTRIEL EN ENVIRONNEMENT : INDUSTRIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT : AXE ECOLOGIE INDUSTRIELLE ET MANAGEMENT ENVIRONNEMENTAL: ELECTIVE COURSES IN INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 8

ORGANIZATION AND INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING PRESENTATION: This optional course is aimed at engineering students who wish to develop their managerial skills by drawing from in-depth theoretical knowledge on company organization and management of production systems. This advanced course in industrial engineering is also opened to other fields of application and leads to tertiary sector positions as well as industrial jobs. Leaning on technical and methodological know-how acquired by the students during their first two ENSMSE years (with notably one pre-required elective course in "management of the industrial systems"), the OIM option confronts the engineering student with the mobilization and integration of his/her know-how in a complex decision-making and multi point-of-view context due to decision-making, technological and sociological constraints. The OIM option is in the form of a set of 90 hour modules, with the possibility for students to choose profile groups. Every profile includes four modules, namely a total of 360 hours of course-work. The heart of this option, which is focused on industrial engineering, is based on the two following modules: INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING: technical and economic methods of production systems management are increased (design and gauging, activities planning, maintenance and quality, logistics). INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEM: it confronts the students with the double problem of the setting up of an organization with regards to a strategy and to the information system to be deployed. PRESENTATION: OPTIONAL COURSE: MATERIALS SCIENCE AND MECHANICS The objective of the MSM option is to supply a multidisciplinary training in materials physics and mechanics. Five professional profiles are proposed: Mechanical design: project management, gauging, tests on structures. Materials engineering: production responsibility, expertise, consultancy work, quality, environment. Health materials: problems and constraints of health professions (design, development of medical products and equipments, Research and Development). Research and Development in Mechanics: Double Master Programme in Mechanics and Engineering. Research and Development in Materials: Double Master Programme in Materials Science and Engineering. The engineer s indispensable skills variety and open-mindedness justify an education based, for the first modules, on lessons supplementing the training in mechanics or materials depending on profiles. The modules 2 give way to a teaching per projects (coupled with English language teaching within the framework of a training in Design Materials choice and Processes). Finally, the third module is at choice: management of technological innovation, interaction materials/biological media, product life cycle, and specific modules to masters depending on profiles. In parallel to lessons, the project has an important place; it is mainly proposed by manufacturers. Every student is placed in the situation of a young engineer in a company with a project to be led, a supervision (the tutor) and an appropriate choice of training; it is the occasion for him to develop his creativity, his spirit of initiative and responsibility. OPTIONAL COURSE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION: This option aims at giving to the non-specialized engineers the capacities to conceive, implant and manage the development of IT applications in various industrial contexts. The G2I centre s multidisciplinary research teams offer to students a high-level supervision in the biggest part of the approached fields. In addition, experts in industry are called on for interventions in the form of punctual lessons or conferences in several state-of-the-art fields. It will be possible to do these didactic contributions both in English or French. Openings aimed by this training are typically IT jobs (manufacturers, publishers or service firms developing softwares), as well as more managerial professions requiring a real knowledge of IT systems for their adequate and optimal use (project managers, IT services managers). Students who would like to evolve towards research (pursuit in thesis or first employment in a research and development service) are in position to present a research MSc prepared in double programme with the option (master Web Intelligence, in association with the University Jean Monnet de Saint-Etienne ).
