Introduction Hello, Looking to setup the D-Link 320B Ethernet Modem? Follow this Quick Setup guide and you ll be online in no time at all. What s in the box: Quick Installation 1. Put the setup CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive. The CD should automatically start. 2. If the disc doesn t start, you can click the CD icon with your right mouse button and select Autoplay from the menu. You don't need the CD s Quick Installation to get started. Go to Page 6 for a guide to using a Web browser based setup. Before you start Has your service gone live? Don t follow these instructions until you have received confirmation that your broadband service is ready to use. 3. The start page will appear on your screen. Click the Quick Installation Start button. Have you got your broadband username and password to hand? 4. The first step of the Quick Installation is to power up the modem. 7. Plug the power adapter into the modem. 5. Remove the sticky label from the modem. 8. Switch the modem on and check the power light comes on. If it does, you can click the Next button on your computer screen. If not, see the Troubleshooting section on the last page of this guide. 6. Plug the adapter into a power socket, make sure the power socket is switched on. 9. You will now connect the modem to your computer. 3
Item code: 046330 10. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the modem. 13. Plug one end of the DSL cable into the microfilter. Then plug the microfilter into your telephone socket. 11. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a free network socket on your computer. If the LAN comes on, click Next. Otherwise see Troubleshooting on the last page of this guide. 14. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into the socket marked 'DSL'. The DSL light on the front of the modem will flash and then stay on. If not, see Troubleshooting on the last page of this guide. 12. Next, connect your modem to your broadband enabled phone line. 15. Next, the modem will try to detect your 4
16. Choose United Kingdom for Country and Other for ISP. 18. Next, type in your broadband username and password. 17. Make sure the following settings are selected, then click Next. Your broadband username will take the following form: Service Broadband username format Plusnet Madasafish Force9 Free-Online username@plusdsl.net username@madasafish.com username@f9.co.uk username@freeonline.net 19. The modem will now connect to your broadband service using the settings you've provided. This might take a few minutes to complete. 20. When the modem connects to your service you'll see a congratulations screen. That's it, you re connected! To start using your service click on the Start Browsing button, or just open your web browser. Your broadband settings will be saved in the modem, so you ll connect whenever the modem is switched on. Web browser based setup If your Quick Installation CD doesn't work, you can set up your modem using a web browser. You can also use this method to update your modem settings after you ve set it up, or access Advanced Settings. 1. First, refer to the previous Quick Start section of this guide to plug the hardware in. When done, open your web browser. In the Address line, type in 192.168.1.1, then press Enter. 2. A login page will appear, enter the modem's administration username and password and click Log in. By default the details are: Username: admin Password: admin 6
Item code: 046330 3. From the ADSL setup page you can choose either the Setup Wizard or Manual Setup. Tick Manual Setup. Troubleshooting The following table explains what the modem's status lights mean: Power Power light not on Check the power adapter is plugged in. Check the cable is firmly seated in the back of the modem. Check the plug socket is switched on and working. DSL DSL light flashing or off Check your DSL cable connects your modem to the microfilter. Check that your microfilter is connected properly. Interference caused by other devices on your telephone line are a common cause of problems. Enter the following settings, then click Apply Settings. For more information about fitting Microfilters visit our support pages at: http://support.plus.net Manual ADSL connection Settings: LAN LAN light flashing or off PPoE/PPPoA PPPoE/PPPoA Internet Connection Type: Username: Your broadband username Password: Your broadband password Connection Type: PPPoA VC-Mux MTU: 1400 Idle Time Out: 0 VPI: 0 VCI: 38 See page 5 for the format that your broadband username will take. Check the Ethernet cable is plugged into your modem. Check the Ethernet cable is plugged into a network socket on your computer. Test with another Ethernet cable, in case there s a problem with the provided one. Status What the Status light means: The status light will flash to indicate that a connection is active. The status light comes on when you first switch the modem on. If the light stays on this means that the modem has failed its internal test and should be restarted. 7
