Overview of What s New in Cirrato One 15R1 (Release Date: August 25, 2015) Installation and Administrator Enhancements Cirrato Navigator Phased Driver Rollout Navigator is a web based tool that displays maps, office locations and floorplans, with printers shown in their locations. Selecting a printer displays (all of its) print queue(s). The user then clicks on install. IT can upload maps and floorplans. There is a drag and drop functionality for printers to be placed on the floorplans. All printers that have been added to the Cirrato server will be made available automatically. Starting to work with Navigator is possible without all maps being uploaded. Users can also find their location via the tree structure. Locations without maps automatically display a list of available printer queues. Navigator is enabled by default. IT can upload and push out new versions of drivers to specific queues and/or regions to test if the driver functions properly. There is an option to select which operating systems should be included in the rollout. It is easy for IT to set up with only a few steps to complete, and a visual interface. Navigator can be used even if not all regions are set up, allowing for a phased set up. Navigator reduces the number of helpdesk calls for users unable to find printers nearby. Ideal for remote colleagues, or temporary visitors, who can find printers without helpdesk interaction. New versions of drivers can be tested in a safe way even in the production environment. Rolling out in phases offers control and certainty that a driver works properly.
Administration Audit Logging Card Management Print Management Client (PMC) A driver rollout can be deleted and replaced by another rollout. The new driver version can also be unwound. Users printing with that driver will then be changed back to the previous driver that was installed for that print queue. When a driver is functioning properly, global rollout can be selected. Changes to the Cirrato server made via MMC are reported in the Event Log. This tells administrators what, when and by whom something was changed. Also logged are administrator print queue start and stop events. Allows IT to delete user card assignments without opening the database. Search by card number or by user name, across one or all domains. Part of the helpdesk portal, new tab Card Management. Command-line MMC functionality that allows IT to add regions, printers, queues. Also allows for modification of any of the regions, printers and queues. Can list all regions, printers, queues and models. Existing configurations can be maintained when the driver is updated so the end user will not notice a change. The event logs provide an overview of changes made to the server. In case of any issues, the logs will help identify the changes made and by whom. A quick way for IT to find and remove cards for a specific user. No need for IT to go into the database and find a user card assignment before being able to delete it. PMC is a tool for doing quick additions and making changes to the Cirrato server in a scriptable way. Lists of server objects provides an overview that can be helpful when checking information about the system and fleet.
CirratoDrv Driver Transfer System (DTS) Export /Import Enhanced port monitor for Windows Command-line equivalent of CirratoPak that is used to upload drivers to the server. Allows for batch upload of drivers. DTS allows drivers, deployments and configurations to be exported from a source system and to be uploaded to a target system. DTS Export allows IT to select source server drivers, deployments and configurations and exports them as an XML file. DTS Import takes the XML file and uploads all settings to the target server. Errors are logged. Communication between printer and printer driver is available in most if not all - current BiDi-capable print drivers. The printer driver communicates with the printer, identifying printer preferences and capabilities. Turning on bidirectional communication (Bi-Di) in Cirrato allows for automatic configuration of the printers which puts an end to the manual configuration of print queues. Bi-Di can typically detect the following automatically: - Device Type CirratoDrv is a command line tool that offers an alternative to CirratoPak for uploading drivers. Adding drivers is quick and batch uploads are possible if a common driver storage area is in use. Entire server setups can be exported and imported. For environments where organizations choose to have multiple servers in use. Cirrato facilitates the bidirectional communication between printer and driver, making self-configuration possible. Reduces administration effort for IT, no manual configuration required. Eliminates potential errors that can occur with manual configuration. Printers are configured based on standard settings provided by the manufacturer (unless these are overruled). Optimizes availability of the full feature set of each printer in the organization.
- Media settings and levels - Toner levels - Trays - Finishing Options - Device Status - Error messages Optional control over printing and print rules. Communication between the printer and the printer driver passes through Cirrato, allowing for print control and print rules if required. Without interfering with communication between the printer and printer driver, preferences can still be controlled and company printing policies can be enforced. End User Experience Enhancements Cirrato Navigator Enhanced port monitor for Windows Navigator is a web based tool that allows users to find an office on a map, then to drill down to the actual floorplan where they have an instant overview of all nearby printers. After selecting a printer, the print queues are displayed and the user only needs to click on install, after which they can print. Bidirectional communication between printer and printer driver can provide users with information about the printer, such as: - Media settings and levels - Toner levels - Trays - Finishing Options Finding printers nearby is easy via a visual web interface. Installation only requires a single click when the print queues are displayed. Uninstalling printers is just as easy. Users can view and access the full feature set of the printer and choose the one that best meets their printing need (for example: A3, color, stapling, folding).
