GUEST SPEAKER: BRIAN OATES 89 FENWAY SPORTS GROUP Brian Oates is the Director of Collegiate Marketing at Fenway Sports Group (FSG). Brian is a 1989 graduate of B.C. High, received his B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, and M.B.A from Boston College. At FSG, Brian creates marketing strategies, drives corporate sponsorships, and helps further expand and mobilize Boston College's fan base. Prior to his arrival at Fenway Sports Group, Brian was the Director of Sales and Marketing for Pro Links Sports. During his time at Pro Links, Brian created and managed all sales, marketing, and business development initiatives. He also planned, organized, and executed the Bank of America Championship, an official event of the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour. In addition to his responsibilities at Fenway Sports Group, Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the Bay State Games and co-founded the non-profit organization Golf Fights Cancer. He is also a devoted athlete who has successfully participated in the Boston Marathon for the last eight years.
MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY Rick Flynn UPanelists: Rick Daniels was the president and general manager of the Boston Globe for 5 years beginning in 2001. During this period he was responsible for the Boston Globe newspaper and its multi-platform local media enterprises and led many acquisitions and investments, including the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Boston Red Sox & NESN, and Boston Metro. He also was a founder of Boston.com, BostonWorks, and Globe Direct. Rick received his B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University and M.S. in Administration from Boston University. Paul Cloonan is a vice president and equity research analyst at Pioneer Investments specializing in the Technology and Media industries. Pioneer Investments is a global investment firm with approximately $300 billion in assets under management. Paul researches companies and industries and makes investment decisions for Pioneer's portfolios. Paul received his B.A. in Economics in 1989 from the College of the Holy Cross and his M.B.A. from Babson University in 1994. Chris Mannix ( 98) is a sportswriter for SI.com, the online magazine of USports IllustratedU, and writes the Inside the NBA and Inside Boxing columns on SI.com. He is a 1998 graduate of B.C. High and 2003 graduate of Boston College. Chris worked for two years as a high school sports reporter at the Boston Globe, where he covered events all over Massachusetts. From his sophomore year of high school until college graduation he worked as a ball boy for the Celtics where he made most of his contacts in the journalism field.
is U BUSINESS & FINANCE Dan Sullivan UPanelists: UJoseph Zaremba ( 82) U Senior Vice President and Director of Business Unit Operational & Regulatory Risk Management for Citizens Bank. He is a 1982 graduate of B.C. High and 1986 graduate of Boston College. UMark Sullivan ( 73)U has worked with HP for 25 years in services, software development, systems development, and support. He earned his Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Boston College, and his Masters degree in Computer Science from Boston University early in his career when working at Raytheon. Mark now manages a 1500 person global organization providing support and services to most Fortune 500 companies throughout the world. UChris Morrissey Uis the president and founder of GroundSafe Environmental, a consulting and management services firm specializing in reducing environmental liability for high growth companies in the industrial, automotive and transportation businesses. He is a 1981 graduate of Syracuse University.
HEALTHCARE & SCIENCES John Sharry Panelists: Dr. Terence Russell, Ph.D ( 87) is President & CEO of Makoto Life Sciences, a biotechnology company focused on the identification of target cells in cancer research. Dr. Russell is a 1987 graduate of B.C. High and and received his Ph.D. in Physics from Boston University. Dr. John O Connor, M.D. ( 94) is currently a Resident in Anesthesiology at Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center in Boston. Dr. O Connor did his internship at Caritas St. Elizabeth s Medical Center in Boston. He is a 1994 graduate of B.C. High and received his M.D. from the New York Medical College and B.A. in Chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross. Dr. Dennis Wall, Ph.D ( 92) is the Director of the Computational Biology Initiative at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wall is an expert in the study of proteins as a building block in the evolution of an organism. Dr. Wall is a 1992 graduate of B.C. High and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
PUBLIC SERVICE & GOVERNMENT Frank O'Brien Panelists: Garrett Bradley ( 88) is the Massachusetts state representative for the third Plymouth district, which includes Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, and part of Scituate. Representative Bradley is a 1988 graduate of B.C. High, and received his degrees from Boston College and Boston College Law School. John H. Danilecki ('80) has lived the Jesuit ideal of seeing God in all things during his 24 years in the Boston Police Department. A dedicated cop and committed practitioner of community policing, Danilecki has had a life-saving impact in his current role as a lieutenant detective and commander of detectives in Roxbury. He led the effort to establish an unprecedented truce between two rival gangs. The truce still stands and is inspiring similar efforts throughout the city. John is a 1980 graduate of B.C. High and was recently presented with the St. Ignatius Award at B.C. High. Bill Driscoll ( 01) founded Persevere Disaster Relief, a volunteer organization to assist with aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Bill is a 2001 graduate of B.C. High and 2005 graduate of Boston College with a degree in Communications. Following graduation he worked as a production assistant on several independent films, but when Hurricane Katrina struck in August, the images of devastation in the media moved him to take action and head south to help. Driscoll joined Hands On USA in mid-september and spent the next four and a half months with the organization in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was awarded the Heroes Among Us award from the Boston Celtics, and received the Presidential Call to Service Award presented by First Lady Laura Bush in January 2006 for work along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He also recently received the Young Alumni Award from Boston College Alumni Association.
ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION Moderators: Fathers Group Members Bill Zemaitis Russ Morrison Panelists: Shaila Kennedy Garland is Vice President of Lee Kennedy Company, a full service general building contractor. Ms. Kennedy is a graduate of St. Anselm College. Steve Connolly ( 87) is an attorney who works for ATS Equipment, a company specializing in the rental of construction equipment. He is a 1987 graduate of B.C. High, and received his degree in law and MBA from Suffolk University. Geoff Morse is currently attending Northeastern University and is pursuing a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering that he expects to complete in May of 2009. As part of Northeastern s co-op program he is employed by Barletta Heavy Division, a general contracting company based in the Boston Area.
EDUCATION & THE ARTS Peter Skipper Panelists: Jim McAdams ( 87) has been a teacher in the Quincy Public Schools for the past six years. He is a 1987 graduate of B.C. High, and received his degrees from St. Anselm College (1991), Northeastern (1993) and Eastern Nazarene (2003). Keith Love is Assistant Headmaster at Tech Boston Academy, a pilot school in the Boston Public Schools where he has worked in a variety of educational roles. He has served in the U.S. Navy and received his degrees from Boston College (1989) and University of Massachusetts (2004). Kate Smith is a specialist in paint conservation for museum artwork at the Harvard Museum of Fine Arts. Jim Ryan ( 89) is a Dorchester native who began his teaching career as an intern at Phillips Exeter Academy and has been teaching Spanish at Milton Academy for the past eight years. He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross with B.A. in Spanish, and is finishing a Master s program in Spanish literature at Boston College.
