Getting Started In order to activate Mobile Banking, you must first be enrolled in Personal or Basic Business Online Banking. Enroll at mechanicsbank.com. To use Mobile Banking on your Palm Treo, your device must have the IBM Java VM (Virtual Machine) loaded before you begin. Please check your Application folder for an icon labeled IBM Java VM before beginning these instructions. If you do not have this java application loaded, you may be prompted to download Java VM during the installation process. Need help? Call us at 800.797.6324 to get started. If you are already a Personal or Basic Business Online Banking user, proceed with the instructions below.
2. Installation 1. Using your Palm Treo browser, go to mechanicsbank.com/mobileapp The Welcome Screen will appear: 2. Scroll down and click Here to the next screen: Note: During the installation process, you may receive several Download Warning screens (or other types of warning message), cautioning that the file you are about to download did not originate with your mobile provider. This is normal, and the messages can safely be disregarded. Tap Yes to continue. 3. This screen will provide you with instructions for downloading the Mobile Finance Manager application. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to click the Next button. Note: That is step 1 of 2 of this process. 4. Take note of the Activation ID in bold red numbers that is provided on the download page. Activation ID: You will need this Activation ID later in the installation process. Click the Download button.
5. After clicking the Download button, you may be asked to confirm the location of the download (choose Device). When you agree to save the file to the Device, you will see the screen at the right. Click Save to initiate the download of the application to the device. Click OK when the download is complete. Note: The device may ask you to accept mfm.prc into applications. Say Yes to complete the installation. 6. After the application has been downloaded and successfully installed, the device will display a confirmation screen notifying you that MFM has been installed. Tap the MFM icon to launch MFM. 7. After the installation, you will be returned to the web browser. Navigate to the Home view. With Categories set to All, you should now see an icon labeled MFM. Tap the MFM icon to launch the application. Scroll to the MFM icon then click to launch the application. You may be asked to Allow Applications Permissions, Click Yes to continue. You may be prompted to confirm that MFM be allowed to communicate wirelessly using the HTTPS protocol. After selecting Yes, tap OK. 8. Once MFM has been launched, it will prompt you to enter the Activation ID obtained in step 4, above. Enter the number and click Submit. Note: If you receive an error message asking you to check your network configuration, see the Network Setup instructions in the appendix below. 9. Everything in the Setup screen should be pre-populated except for the User ID and Password fields. Type in your User ID and Password. Your MFM User ID and Password are the same as those used for Personal or Basic Business Online Banking.
10. Once you have completed the information in the setup screen, click the Save button to confirm the settings. Note: For more details on the options available in the Setup screen, refer to the set up section below. 11. After properly installing and saving the MFM application, you will receive a notification requiring you to check your email that you use for Personal or Basic Business Online Banking. The email will provide you a one-time PIN number that is required to complete the activation. You will also receive instructions on how to proceed. Please follow these email instructions. You will be asked to Log In to Mobile Finance Manager by adding the one time PIN number to the end of your user Personal or Basic Business Online Banking password. For example: If your one time PIN number is 3470, and your password is jump 123, you will enter your password jump123 and then add the one time PIN to the end of your password: "jump1233470", place in the password field within Mobile Finance Manager then click Save. 12. Once you have clicked Save from step 11 above, you Palm Treo will take you to the home screen (or to the MFM Welcome Screen). Congratulations! You have successfully installed MFM for your Palm Treo! You are now ready to have banking on the go! The following pages will give you instructions on accessing and using Mobile Banking from your Palm Treo.
3. Using MFM On Your Palm Treo 1. Navigate to the Home view. With Categories set to All, you should now see an icon labeled MFM. Tap the MFM icon to launch the application. You have now launched the MFM application. Select Banking from the initial MFM screen. 2. Once you have selected the MFM icon from the step above, the Welcome screen will appear. From here you can navigate to the following areas of the application: Banking: View balances, transactions and transfer funds between accounts. Setup: Manage user information and frequencies of MFM upgrade queries. About: Provides version information about the Mobile Finance Manager (MFM) application. Help: Abbreviated user guide for MFM. Exit: Closes the application. Banking: The following options are available from the Banking menu: Select: View transactions for the highlighted account. Transfer Money: Transfer funds between Mechanics Bank accounts. Refresh: Check to see if there are new transactions or updated balances. Note: You can nickname your accounts via Personal Online Banking, instead of the current display, which will show your masked account numbers. 3. Options: By highlighting the account, you have the following options from the bank account list menu: Transfer Money: Transfer funds between your eligible Mechanics Bank accounts. View Transactions: View the transactions for the highlighted account. You can also view the transactions by pressing the action button on the device. Refresh: Check to see if there are new transactions or updated balances. Back: Exits the current window and returns to the previous window.
4. Set-up Options To change your current application settings, select Setup from the Welcome Screen. The following options can be managed from Setup: Financial Institution: Short name for your financial institution; should contain MB, for Mechanics Bank. Access ID, Password: Same ID and password as those used for Personal Online Banking. Activation ID: An MFM-specific ID provided during installation. Network Setting: Network the device is currently using. Check for updates: Frequency of MFM s automatic update check. The following options are available from the Setup screen Menu: Select: Selects currently-highlighted field. Clear Field: Deletes the content from the selected field. Show Symbols: Displays the symbol picker. Save: Saves the current setup Refresh presets: Confirms the User ID and Password are valid for the designated account, and that the Financial Institution and Activation ID are correct. Add Access ID: Allows you to add a new ID (if you have more than one account you wish to access at Mechanics Bank) or edit the current username. Select this option and then choose either New or Edit. Save to return to the Setup screen. Check for updates: Checks if there is a newer version of MFM available; if one is found, you will be given the option to install it. (For more information, see Updating MFM.) Help: Displays the Help contents. Cancel: Cancels the current function
5. Updating and Uninstalling MFM The MFM application may require and update to remain current. 1. Before updating, make sure you have written down your Activation ID, found in the Setup screen in MFM. You will need this number to update MFM. 2. MFM will automatically check for a new version every month, but you can also check manually by selecting Check for Updates from the menu in the Setup screen. This will connect you to the Internet and begin checking for a new version. 3. If an update is ready, you will see a message saying, MFM version X.X is available for download. Would you like to upgrade now? If an update is available, tap OK, and the browser will open the installation web site. At this point you must first delete the currently installed version of MFM before installing the new version. See the instructions below for more detail.. Uninstalling MFM Follow these instructions for uninstalling MFM from your BlackBerry. 1. To delete, begin by navigating to the Home screen. Tap the clock display in the upper left corner in order to bring up the App menu. Tap Delete. 2. Scroll down and select MFM from the list of applications available for delete. Click the scroll wheel to bring to select MFM. Tap Delete. 3. A message will appear, asking whether you re sure you want to delete MFM. Tap Yes button. 4. Tap the Done button when completed. Launch your browser again and install from step 1.
6. Appendix / FAQs Having trouble with Mobile Finance Manager? The troubleshooting steps and service options below provide the smoothest path to resolving any issues you might have. 1. When trying to launch MFM the device states one of the following: The application to view this data cannot be found. Database: can t find (0x0207) or Missing IBM Java VM. Please ensure that IBM's WebSphere Micro Environment Java VM is installed. The IBM Java VM (Virtual Machine) application must be installed on the device before installing the MFM application. This is because The Palm OS does not natively support Java applications. A Java VM is required to run the MFM application. 2. When trying to download financial data, the device returns: "Error The connection could not be requested. Check network settings." Verify the device s Internet connection is enabled and that you are able to access a website from your phone's web browser. Ensure that your Wireless connection is on. 3. OFX error 15500 and 15002: Sign on invalid / User Lockout This message appears when your login credentials have not been entered correctly. Reenter your password in the Setup section of the application and try connecting again. If the problem persists, you may have to contact your financial institution to verify your user ID and password. Error code 15002, please call us at 800.797.6324 if you receive this error. 4. When trying to download financial data, your device indicates it has detected a problem with the certificate. This message appears because your Mechanics Bank mobile server security certificate is of a type that is not recognized by your device. However, this does not mean that the security of your device, the Mechanics Bank mobile server, or your financial data are not secure it simply means the website certificate is not of a format that the device recognizes (the actual certificate being used for your device's web access is different). Choose the option to Continue to close this message. 5. When trying to connect to Mechanics Bank, you receive error HTTP 500. This error indicates that Mechanics Bank financial server is currently unavailable. Please try again to connect later. 6. Error receiving OFX response: Timeout This message may appear if Mechanics Bank mobile server or your device s Internet connection is slow at the moment. Wait a few minutes and then try connecting and
Network Configuration You may receive an error message if the device fails to connect to the Mechanics Bank server, which is followed by a screen asking for you to check your network configuration. Use the Preferences screen (under Applications) to make changes to your network configuration. 1. Verify your device is configured for high-speed data. Select the correct network provider. 2. If you still have no connectivity, contact your service provider to verify that your subscription plan includes high-speed data services, data services have been activated on your account, data coverage is available in your location, or there are no data service outages in your area.
