Updates on SQL Server 2012 The SQL Server 2012 Enterprise and Standard editions are being offered under the new Per Core licensing model. To license a physical server under this model, all physical cores in the server must be licensed, with a minimum of 4 core licenses required for each physical processor in the server. Similar to prior version SQL Server 2008R2 products licensed under the Per Processor licensing model, SQL Server 2012 products licensed under the new Per Core licensing model do not require SALs and is appropriate when end customers are unable to count the users. SQL Server 2012 Per Core licenses are being priced at ¼ the cost of prior version SQL Server 2008R2 Per Processor licenses for the same edition, and are sold in packs of 2 core licenses. The SQL Server 2012 product lineup (effective 1 st April 2012) has been simplified to three main editions: Enterprise (7JQ-00341) for mission critical applications and data warehousing Standard (7NQ-00302) for basic database capabilities, reporting and analytics Business Intelligence (D2M-00502) *new* for premium corporate and self-service Business Intelligence capabilities. Updates on System Center 2012 With the release of System Center 2012, the previous versions of System Center components (listed below) will be removed from the price list, effective April 2012. System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 System Center Service Manager 2010 System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 Opalis is now integrated into System Center 2012 as the Orchestrator component, and AVIcode capabilities are now integrated into the Operations Manager component. All System Center products on the January 2012 price list stay on the price list during calendar year 2012 except for SMSE, SMSD, and System Center Operations Manager Web Servers. The January 2013 price list will not include the old System Center SKUs. SPLA program rules allow customers with old System Center products before January 2013 to order them after January 2013 until their contract expires. New and renewal customers may only order System Center 2012 products. System Center 2012 Management will transition from Subscriber Access Licenses (SALs) to per processor licenses (proc) per the below table. For SMSE, at renewal partners will need to move to either 2012 Standard or Datacenter based on scenario. For SMSD, at renewal partners can move to System Center 2012 Datacenter(T6L-00249). Because the SPLA program is a subscription program, SPLA partners can continue to host on the current product for the life of their agreement. Hosting Service Providers receive cost savings relative to purchasing the components of the Core Infrastructure Server Suites on a standalone basis; and for the incremental investment of up to 20% over Windows Server standalone prices, customers receive the value of a well-managed and protected datacenter.
