BEJ Musterprüfung Englisch (11020) 1 I Textarbeit Text 1 I never leave my horse 1 5 10 15 20 Police officers in Ireland don t carry guns. But they often ride through Dublin on horses. Julie Folan is a police officer who rides one of Ireland s ten police horses every day. Julie spends most of her time riding around Dublin s city centre, but also works in other parts of the country. She chases criminals, helps to find missing people, controls crowds and takes part in the St Patrick s Day Parade. Julie says The horses are very tall, and I can see a lot. I do everything that other police officers do but I never leave my horse. So if I m chasing people and they go into a house, I have to call other police officers to help. Julie comes from England but works as a police officer in Ireland. She has lived in Dublin for 16 years. She loved riding horses when she was younger, and she became a police officer four years ago. For the last two years Julie has ridden a horse called Dilis. It s important to know your horse, says Julie. Dilis loves children but he s afraid of plastic bags. People in Dublin often say hello to him and many kids know his name. When Julie isn t riding Dilis, she feeds and grooms him. Julie loves her job but it s not an easy one. It s very hard on your back and your hips, she says. And you get hurt quite often. Last year one of the horses kicked me and broke my arm. I ve also had broken fingers and toes. It s cold in winter, so my hands and feet get very cold. The job s a lot more fun in summer! 278 words Adapted from Spot on, 10/2006 Annotations line 6 line 7 line 19 to chase jagen, verfolgen crowds hier: Menschenansammlungen to groom striegeln
