2016 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Available by category Standard Eligibility Requirements for ALL Scholarships: Applicants must be an ENA member for a minimum of twelve (12) months immediately prior to applying. Non-RN category applicants are not required to be an ENA member but a letter of reference from a current ENA member is required. A minimum of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) is required for consideration. Applicants must be attending a NLN, AACN or CCNE accredited school and must provide verification of the schools current accreditation. Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply under the same category. However, qualified previous recipients may apply for the next category. ENA members having served in the immediate past three years on the ENA board of directors, ENA Foundation board of trustees, or ENA Foundation scholarship selection committee are ineligible to apply. ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES NON-RN SCHOLARSHIPS Licensed RNs are not eligible for non-rn scholarships. New York State ENA September 11 Scholarship Rescue Workers Funding for these scholarships is made possible by the generosity of the New York ENA State Council and members through the 2015 ENA Foundation State Fundraising Challenge campaign. These scholarships are not limited geographically and are awarded to rescue workers who are obtaining an associates or baccalaureate degree in nursing. Eligible rescue workers include pre-hospital care providers, firefighters, and police officers. Requirements: Proof of acceptance into a pre-licensed nursing program and proof of at least one year of pre-hospital work experience is required. Applicants do not need to be a member of ENA, but a letter of reference from a current ENA member is required. Number of Awards: Two (2) Submission Deadline: April 29, 2016 Amount of Award: $2,500 each Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 ENA Foundation State Fundraising Challenge Scholarships - Emergency Department Employees Support for these scholarships is made possible by the generous donations received from ENA members through fundraising events and campaigns. Eligible emergency department employees include but are not limited to emergency medical technicians, clerical coordinators, CNA s, registration clerks, etc. Requirements: Applicant must be pursuing an associate or baccalaureate degree in nursing. The applicant will be required to include a letter from the Emergency Department nurse director/manager stating the applicant s interest in emergency nursing. Applicant must also provide proof of at least one year emergency department employment. Applicants do not need to be a member of ENA, but a letter of reference is required from a current ENA member. UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Charles Kunz Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship This scholarship is named in memory of Charles Kunz, father of 2005 ENA President, Patricia Kunz Howard, PhD, RN, CEN, CPEN, NE-BC, FAEN. The scholarship is intended for current emergency nurses pursuing a higher level of education (RN to BSN). Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to a registered nurse who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Applicants must be a current registered nurse and meet all standard eligibility requirements. Amount of Award: $3,000 Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 Elizabeth B. Moore Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship This scholarship is named in memory of ENA lifetime member Elizabeth Betty B. Moore, (1929-2014). Betty was an early ENA member and an early advocate for continuing education who always gave back to others through her community and medical mission trips. She was also a mentor to many. Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate nursing student who demonstrates interest and merit in emergency nursing as well as financial need. Applicants do not need to be a member of ENA, but a letter of reference from a current ENA member is required. Amount of Award: $2,500 Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Undergraduate Scholarships Support for this scholarship is provided by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) organization. The mission of the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing is to certify nurses who provide emergency nursing across the emergency care continuum. Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to a nurse with a current BCEN credential (CEN, CPEN, CFRN, CTRN or TCRN) who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Applicants must meet all Number of Awards: Thirteen (13) Submission Deadline: April 29, 2016 Amount of Awards: $2,000 each Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 GRADUATE/MASTER LEVEL SCHOLARSHIPS Judith C. Kelleher Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of ENA s co-founder Judith C. Kelleher, MSN, RN, FAEN, (1923-2013). Judy was an exceptional leader and visionary emergency nurse who directly contributed to raising the standards of how emergency nurses practice today. Requirements: To honor Judy s wish to continue to further emergency nursing education and keep her legacy alive, this scholarship is awarded to a nurse pursuing a nurse practitioner degree. Applicants must meet all Anita Dorr Graduate Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of ENA s co-founder Anita Dorr, RN, FAEN, (1915-1972). Anita was the first executive director of the ENA and her contributions to the specialty of emergency nursing were widely recognized. Anita is credited with the 1967 invention of the first emergency nursing crisis cart, commonly known as the Crash Cart. Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to a nurse pursuing a master s degree in nursing with a focus in administration. Amount of Award: $3,000 Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 Karen O Neil Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Karen M. O'Neil, who was a recipient of an ENA Foundation Scholarship herself. Karen was a unique individual whose involvement and dedication to her profession touched her patients, colleagues and her community. Karen, her family, and her friends have provided this opportunity as a way to remember her tireless energy and uplifting spirit, and commitment to emergency nursing. Requirements: This Amount of Award: $3,000 Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 DOCTORAL CATEGORY Pamela Stinson Kidd Memorial Doctoral Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Pamela Kidd by the ENA Board of Directors and the ENA Foundation Board of Trustees. Pam was a longtime member of ENA and served on the ENA Board of Directors, and was an exemplary educator and nurse researcher who mentored many nurses. This scholarship, named in her honor, is funded by general donations received by the ENA Foundation and through multiple annual fundraising campaigns. Requirements: This scholarship is awarded to an emergency nurse pursuing a doctoral degree. The applicant s dissertation must be related to emergency nursing. Applicants must meet all Amount of Award: $10,000 Recipient Notified: after August 1, 2016 ENA Foundation Doctoral Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a nurse (RN) pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing (PhD or DNP). Funding for this scholarship is made possible through the generosity of those who contributed to the ENA Foundation State Fundraising Challenge in 2015. Requirements: Applicants must show proof of acceptance and enrollment into an accredited doctoral program in nursing and must include a statement about their emergency nursing career intent. Applicants who are more than six months beyond the completion of all formal coursework and comprehensive examinations, are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
